Autopsy Post Mortem vs Sydney. What a thriller! Pies by a point

Given we seemed to have almost forgotten how to win take it and move on, but we need to remember it effectively kills the season of a competitor with Sydney coming up against WC and GWS in the next fortnight so it makes it easier to stay ahead of the pack...

This point cant be underestimated. If you want to make finals you have to take the place in the pecking order of teams ranked ahead of you.

After round three the Swans are a massive scalp. If they lose next week its season over and one less major team for Collingwood to worry about

The Crawsh could have been GOAT if not for a few minor issues such as lack of talent, desire and athletic ability. Best blonde afro mullet of all time though.

He should be next in line on Sheehan's show with Queen's 'Dont stop me now' as background music.

Fu*king come on!!!!!

Treloar 14 tackles!?!?! Where is everyone now!?
He was just a machine tonight.
A little inaccurate at times tonight but gets the business done.
His tackling was leadership too

Most uneducated crowd on the planet.
Pass the Chardonnay Alfred.....who is that roughing up our number 4?
Cad.

Your post is so true!

Treloar and Adams regardless of how they're playing.. do not f..ing stop.. gimme the f..ing ball is their motto.. a player who demands the ball.. regardless of how good a form they're in on the night.. are the best team players you'll find. Others who are lesser players hide behind other players.

I've had some great coaches in my life playing soccer.. Michael Sinclair.. John Kennedy.. Gary McDowell.. and they all advocated this theory.. you do not f..ing stop no matter what.. you owe it to your team to keep going.

Adams and Treloar a f..ing outstanding. They just keep coming at ya no matter what. Love em!

I'm still not a fan of buckley but who saw his grin from ear to ear during the presser when he was talking about WHE and Fasolo at the end. He was like a little school girl hahahaha it was so heartwarming

He won't last.. but let him enjoy his time in the sun. As much as i loved him as a player.. he's a friggen hopeless coach.

Man one regret i have in my life.. well not so much a regret.. is not playing AFL.. my folks advocated soccer.. otherwise I'd have been remembered as a Collingwood great.. and everyone would have been singing my name.
I thought you did okay for us Mr Hrysoulakis.
Athas, at least you got there :p

The really pleasing thing for me was that we were able to bounce back when there was enormous media pressure applied during the week. The players responded with great maturity I think.
The upsides:
1st quarter: we were able to play the way we have trained all summer. Great ball movement, using the corridor and building a fortress-like forward press.
4th quarter: still able to play with fierce pressure and mostly make decent decisions under extreme pressure, with a home crowd aiding the Swans.
Broomhead: finally beginning to give what we all knew he was capable of. Fingers crossed with injury - he deserves a good run. Looked cool and classy.
Grundy: Can't understand the criticism here. He played like a mid last night. Watch it again and see how many times he backed up after the bounce; played like a ruck-rover. I loved it. Very few big men in the game can play like this.
Shade: discipled and strong at the ball. Good decision maker. We need this in an inexperienced back 6.
Phillips: gutsy, runs hard......just needs to take that extra half second to steady with ball in hand. My other half was baying for his blood after a few panic kicks, but overall a positive night.
Faz: takes every opportunity. The bit of x factor our forward line needs.
The downers:
Defence: currently too many players who panic under pressure and cough it up. Decision making (yes Mr Smith I'm looking at you) can be terrible. We really need Sharenberg's cool head down there. Hope he's not far off. A few weeks in the VFL to get the miles in his legs.
Ben Reid: not a good night at the office for Ben. I think we might have to throw him forward. We have virtually no tall who can mark overhead in
in our forward line; Jesse runs under it all the time. Of course moving Reid forward creates a hole in defence and I don't see Keeffe filling that spot. Keeffe hasn't taken an overhead mark in his career.
Returns from inside 50s: the stats are stark. We get it into our forward 50 but can't find a forward either on the lead or capable of a mark one on one.
Next week:
Three weeks in a row our recruitment plan has been exposed; there is no likely developing tall who can take a grab as far as I can see. Until we find a buddy for Moore we are doomed to more shots from the boundary line. How many goals have we kicked from say 30-40 metres out directly in front? Very few I'd suggest.
Elliott helps out immediately if he can play a good one this afternoon. Elliott for Mayne. Sharenberg brings the calm under pressure and brilliant decision making we need in defence. Sharenberg for Smith in three weeks. Until then, we probably keep playing Smithy.
Wells: not sure how far off he is. Is he playing this afternoon? Probably needs a few weeks in the VFL, but will add the outside silk we desperately need.
Only one obvious change that I can see. Elliott for Mayne.
Anyway, about time we had an ounce of luck in a tight finish. We've been thereabouts for the last 6-7 outings. Finally a chance to cheer.

He has a 2nd run carry goal now in 4 games. Hope he keeps it up. The bombs out of the pack need working on. Or maybe the fwd line need to be better structured for that

We were in positions in those first two games to win. The players f*cked it up not Bucks. We could be 3-0. Yeah there's things to work on.

I dont look at the conversion rate.. i look at our playing style.. it's a mess. Seriously. My standards are very high.. 2 things i have picked up on that i see as flaws are 1 Patience. 2 We don't spread enough and utilize the space as much as we should be doing. They're really basic.. but Buckley has decided to overlook em.. if I sat with Buckley for an hr or 2.. I'd straighten him out.

Great win against the odds.
I think Bucks has this group and it's onwards and upwards.
We are a couple of players off being back.
Well done CFC

This guy found form again.
I'm sorry to venture but young Moore might need a spell in the two to get touch and confidence.

Loved Adams tonight,
Treloar worked his way into things.

I think Grundy must be leading the Copeland, another enormous game

Just like Aish this week Moore needs to be dropped next week IMO.

Outside the 1 JLT game against Richmond he's been a non event.

Currently playing with the attitude he's the son of Peter and that's good enough.

Needs a wake up call from the coach and needs it now.
I have to disagree. Moore has been making contests just needs to start clunking them. I don't think dropping him to vfl is the answer. He is not far away from taking a game apart

He's just elite.

Need a few more of those types

On what do you base the "poorer depth" theory?

It would be the relative experience. The bottom 6 of both teams would see Sydney's with a combined 10 games experience and ours would have consisted of Smith, Ramsay, Broomhead, Mayne, Varcoe and Maynard. Injuries can be covered it's how you cover them that's the often overlooked.

For instance Sinclair came in for Tippet and like us when we pick Blair they might as well have played with 21. On the reverse White misses and we have Cox in reserve who even at this early stage has Sinclair covered.

Brodie Grundy's game was awesome once again last night 23 disposals 43hitouts become one of the best ruckmen in the league still not much talk about him, it's all about Max Gawn
I'm just loving the Grundy has taken up where he left off last season.

To be fair to Gawn, he is a super player.

You are right, the media love Gawn. But again this time, Gawn is a character, a terrific player and comes across as a ripper bloke.

The way both rucks are going can see Gawn get the nod in AA - with Grundy maybe getting a bench spot. Collingwood players seem to have to do that little blt more to get the nod.
