Considering you're the one who ripped my head off for suggesting that a first-year player wasn't (yet) a key player for us last year, I am OK with you not being a fan of my posts.

a sooking reference to something last year is irrelevant to the crap you're going on with over hewett

At the end of the day it's none of ya business what I'm saying unless you decide to make it your business. I was replying to Kapers on a post that they made. If you didn't like my reply then that's on you.

Maybe play the ball more than the man.

The swans make mistakes, otherwise, we would never lose a premiership.

BUUUUT, we're all here, and we all love the swans.

There are people here who love Hewett and were gutted to see him leave, it's a very small thing that they feel justified. I'm sure we've all felt justified at times and wanted to tell others.

This is fair.

I stand by my sentiments however my "head in sand" comment was out of line and dismissive of others' perspectives.

Odd question, but do you guys know if there will be a game at Lakeside Oval this weekend?

I'm staying at the Mercure in Albert Park this weekend and wouldn't mind catching a suburban game while I'm down in Melbourne.
There is no footy anymore at the Lake Oval , the Greeks stole it to play soccer on . I will find out whether South Districts are home they play at the other end of the park

Like me saying Macca should not have played in the GF in 16
No Bedders, because you mention it occasionally, you don't bang on and on and on about it relentlessly.
Also it was clear in hindsight that McVeigh's inclusion in that team was a mistake, we can't say that definitively about the Hewitt trade. None of us on here have any ideas behind the reasoning behind it and without knowing the why's or wherefores, we can't definitively say it was the wrong decision.

But in my opinion it was the wrong decision and in hindsight JPK should have retired and we should have retained George on a reasonable package , nothing over the top .

And I completely agree (well maybe not the Joey retiring thing because he's my favourite Swan ever and I'll be heartbroken when he goes), what gets me is that the poster in question goes on and on and on and on and on about George and now makes him out to be the equivalent of GAJ in abilities which he's clearly not.
We don't know why he was traded, for all we know his Great Aunt Mable could live in Melbourne and George could be her favourite great nephew and her one request in her declining years was to live her time out with George and his son! That's highly unlikely but it's just as likely as your thoughts on retiring Joey would have meant we could keep George, the fact is we don't know!
I really liked George and what he brought to the team and I didn't want him to go either, but he's gone now, we can't change it so we have to accept it.

I'm not convinced Hewett was anymore committed to us than we were to him.

The JPK debate is boring. He is a champion of the club. A significantly better player than Hewett has been or ever will be. You don't force players like Kennedy into retirement to keep a player like Hewett. And there is no evidence anyway that it was one or the other.

We faced a very similar scenario at the end of 2014. We could have forced Goodes into retirement and kept Tim Membrey in theory. I am glad we didn't. It would have been better on the field long term, but that is not how you build a great culture at a club.

Agreed. In hindsight, it may become clear that giving joey another year and shipping hewett off was a mistake (acknowledging that it may not be a clear binary decision, and that other factors were almost certainly at play in the decision).

Imo, there's still room for sentimentality in footy, even if the singular goal is to win a premiership.

If the end result is that it was a mistake to pay proper respects to an absolute warrior of the club, and someone we've depended on for the last decade, and someone who has repaid the club many times over, then it's a 'mistake' that as a fan, I am comfortable with the team making.

Huge fan of both Hewett and JPK. In an ideal world we would have kept both. But there's always an Adelaide, Carlton or norf hanging around waiting to relieve us of our talented players. Unfortunately

Damn that Great Aunt Mable and her apron strings.

Said before and say again; IMO the club had to choose 2 of Parker, Dawson and Hewett for lengthy contracts on serious money. JPK was going to be one year so not really relevant. They decided Hewett should be the one to leave and did everything possible to arrange a soft landing.

My issue is not with the list management team. They got us a second round pick for a low-possession, mid-career tagger. That's a good outcome and they did their job. It's Horse who made him a low-possession, mid-career tagger in the first place, something he has clearly shown he was way above since joining Carlton. There is no way around it, Horse undervalued and underestimated Hewett's potential. So whilst I get it seems like bemoaning something that has happened in the past as Jewels put it, Horse is still our coach and he needs to learn from that.

(And I am saying this as someone who thinks Horse is one of the few elite coaches in the competition.)
