I do have to worry about some of our fans on Facebook. Just read someone suggesting they were outraged at the delisting of Naismith and Ronke saying they would be more beneficial than Buddy. I am not ruling out the possibility they may not be fully functioning from a mental standpoint.
I left the FB group, the one with only 1 moderator, because of abuse that was, so bad, I literally got sick to my stomach. In the end I was never sure we were on the same, side. Not sure how many people buy these, but on sale now;

The Season Guide is cheaper by $10 in shops, but does come with free shipping (at least in Victoria).
Was charged $65 (incl shipping) for the first two.

Just as an aside, understand why, but sad to see the demise of newsagents and magazines in general.

Long rant incoming...

You know what I'm sick of seeing on my Twitter and Instagrams? Endless content of players from every team except the Swans.

I say we get rid of our media department completely. Take the money used towards our media resources and put it towards something we'll actually use. Maybe one of the many community or corporate initiatives the club loves promoting, more than their actual players.

In the past week, our media team have found time to flog the following off-field initiatives: a Valentine's Day membership offer, a competition offering SCG box seats, the upcoming guernsey presentation, the new state of the art headquarters, teaming up with an NFL team for Pride, flogging NFL merchandise for the Superbowl, behind-the-scenes of the headquarters unveiling, different kinds of membership packages on offer, and Redbacks members' exclusive tour of the new headquarters.

All of the above I would have zero problem with, if it weren't for the fact that when it comes to content of our actual team and our actual pre-season? One post of training, and it's a retired player (JPK) watching from the sidelines. This after five weeks of pre-season with only one 12-photo training gallery to show for it. Some players, like Sheather and Melican, haven't featured on the Swans Instagram in over a year. A first-round pick with a red hot chance at playing senior footy this year in Sheldrick hasn't featured on the Swans' socials since March of last year (when he didn't even get a debut interview of any sort). And spare a thought for the families of, say, young Cooper Vickery or Jaiden Magor, who have nothing by way of photographic evidence of their sons' first pre-seasons.

If you think we're not the only club with such shoddy coverage of our team, all I can say is I suggest you take a look at what all the other clubs are doing. Our crosstown rivals GWS got a draftee who hasn't even played a game yet on The Project and other national broadcasts by simply showing enough interest in him to find out he drinks milk instead of water. Here in Perth I am frankly sick and tired of their clubs' detailed reports from their match sims constantly popping up on my social media. But I can't even begrudge it - this is THE time of the year to be building excitement around your club, and they're all doing their job perfectly.

Meanwhile ours have given us so little to be excited about. Fans can only conjure up so much excitement amongst themselves before actual content is needed to do the job. It's made what should be an exciting, eager time of the year filled with hope and optimism feel like a boring, dragging slog towards games. I now want the season to start already not because I'm impossibly excited about our team and our players like I usually am, but because I'm just plain bored and need something to happen with this club.

Considering we're one of the most poorly-covered teams in the competition as it is, it's incredibly disappointing that this issue is being compounded by our own media team.

Sorry for the rant. Wish I had no reason to.

I would actually probably drink more milk if the Swans did an article on a draftee that drank more milk.

Do we have draftees?
We took Jacob Konstanty and Caleb Mitchell in last November's draft. We think they'll be excellent additions to our growing list of young talent and we look forward to their development at the club.

Great post caesar88, spot on.

It’s long been my frustration too.

In the annual member feedback survey, I have for years repeatedly suggested:

1. Injury updates; and

2. Some more personal insight into our Swans players.

We (finally) got some formal injury update information - but on point 2, the Swans media dept remains hopeless.

Here’s hoping they read your post.

If anyone can think of any moments from our 2022 season that showed purely finesse/looked like art, I'd greatly appreciate any input for something I'm working on. I'm generally not interested in epic plays that showed power or brute strength or were particularly clutch. Looking for only deft touches and plays that happen in only a second or two.

Examples would include McInerney's blink-and-you'll-miss-it side-step vs GWS, Florent's fancy footwork to get the ball to Paddy in defence, Heeney's brilliant tap to Buddy for his goal vs Collingwood, and of course, Fox's majestic smother in the QF.

Cheers people!

Has to be Gus Sheldrick’s masterful tap from the pocket, leading to a goal in Round 1.

Nothing else came close to it in 2022.

😋

Pretty much all of Gulden's kicks into forward 50

The entire sequence that had Fox's smother as the centrepiece was sheer defensive magic.
It finished with Logan (in the back pocket!) chipping a clever kick into defensive space where Clarke smashed the Dee out of bounds.
Rewatching it makes the hair on my neck stand up. So cool when desperate!

Not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for, but there was a goal in our game against St Kilda (round 15 i think, when we belted them at the SCG) which had a series of beautiful plays from all involved. Started with Paps in the middle tap and lightning give to Clarke, quick handball to Gulden, precision kick inside 50 to Hayward who finished it from 45 around the body. Poetry in motion. If you find the highlights from that game i'm pretty sure its towards the end of the third quarter

Did Hayward kick any from set shots last year ?

I counted 12 set shots in this video, out of 34 goals in total. Although less than half of them were drop punts, as most tended to be on tight angles where he'd run around. He has an uncanny knack for snapping off one step. Very good goal sense.

His set shots in front are a problem , that why he started kicking around corners

Look, yeah, during the season, especially when we are up and about, it's pretty much a full time job trying to mod a 25k group. And any group of that size you are going to get some crazies. There's only so much moderating we can do as we still need to keep the whole freedom of speech thing.

But I do like to think it's alot better now then what it used to be.
