Trying to predict is a waste of time…the last 10 games this season we were ranked 5th!
That’s conveniently forgotten

We have had 2 years with a lot of injuries. Macrae is a huge addition and should change things for the better. We haven't lost any critical players apart from Battle who should be easier to cover than a mid or KP. Lyon's game plan should be drilled in now too. I reckon 4th to 15th is the sort of range with injury and form the biggest factor.

just read the reports and be thankful

quite frankly pumping up players gets everyone up and about and back into that cant wait for the season to start we are getting flags mode

Preseason is our best period, no disappointments, no reality checks, lots of new toys and grandiose dreams running wild. If we can't get excited now we might as well give up.

The key to how good we will be, or not be, in 2026, ignoring injuries, is how much some of younger players step up including Max.

Our midfield was our Achilles Heel last year, but it while not being elite by any means, should at least be quite competitive in 2025 as we have improved its quality and depth.

Max, Nas, Owens, Sharman, Caminiti, Pou, Henry, Windy, Wilson...as well as players like possibly Arie, Keeler etc will be the group that determines if we rise, or just tread water. I think they will improve as a group, but just do not know if it will be in 2025 or 2026.

It's also the coaching.

The boys themselves should be up and about. To my eyes the game plan and belief began to stick and manifest in the final third of the season. I know some might begrudge the fact that the season was over by then, but it was the young guys who stood out, not the usual suspects...that to me was the game changer.
If the older crew can keep fit, stay mostly in the park, and do what they do, and the young bloods continue as they were in that last part of the season...then we are cooking.
I still don't think we're a top 4 side, but I think we are on future potential.
We will make finals next year.

Yes, but I think we were fairly well coached last season, and will be again this year. Though the coach refresh might be helpful, I just do not see that we will be significantly better costed in 2025 than we were in 2024.

Whereas our younger players, may well make a big difference if a number can ramp up.

A better run with injuries could also make a big difference.

Moving Harvey from forwards into the midfield hopefully pays dividends since it makes so much intuitive sense

Idk how Bolton is as a line coach, but hopefully can be an improvement on Harvey who hardly ever played forward - I'd assume its a low bar to beat

Just hoping Enright to Rivers isn't too much of a downgrade in defence since that's our strongest line and is statistically the most important line for a premiership-winning team

The thing that's really filling me with excitement is the lack of injuries. Watching those clips on SaintsTV, it's just so exciting to see so many of the guys out on the track. We really look like we have a full team. It also makes training a lot better when it comes to doing match sim stuff later.

Having guys like Butler, Sincs, King, Jones available to start the year will make a huge difference. Macrae and Steele in ripping nick too. If it keeps on like this we are going to trouble teams to start the year, I'm very confident of that.

And now you've jinxed it

On to 2026

We had very few players requiring post season surgery…big plus!

I'm going to miss Members , so underrated and an easy target for some.
A class individual and a great servant for the club
Speaking of Tim, I saw him at Southland shopping centre yesterday arvo....he's looking in ripping nic.

I was contemplating whether to go up and say hello and jokingly say "Go Pies"

The only problem with that idea was that in what universe could I actually spit those 2 words out !!!!!!

I too will miss Tim in the Red,White and Black.

As you said CR.......a great clubman.

And he was mainly a "dead eye dick" when kicking for goal.

At the "peak of his powers"...his vertical jump was a sight to behold.

Bloos fans will be glad that their "Saints Nemesis" has departed the Saints.......will he become a nemesis for them at the Pies?

One can only hope.

I still cannot get my head around him running around in black and white stripes next season.....and to rub it in,he'll be wearing NO-28.....!!!!!

FUN FACT:

For the trivia players....Tim also wore NO-28 at the Swans for his one and only senior game there.

What are the odds....3 clubs...same number.

Oh....and gamble responsibly.

;););)

we need to be buying our ticket now,for the day zorko neale and half the collingwood and geelong lists fall off the cliff, throw in that aging doggies midfield as well & i think we are on the right track with that

As an interstate and now overseas travelling Saints tragic, I love the pre-season with the training, reports and development of our new and younger players. This is a time of hope, promise and success still to come. Pre-season is non existent to most of us without the track reports, wild speculation, outlandish claims and the hint of wonders to come. May the track watchers and their reports, be long admired and appreciated.

Molly Meldrum is supposedly an “expert” in his chosen field.

I once saw him look me in the eye from the television set whilst he predicted The Knack were going go be bigger than The Beatles.

Experts?

Texperts, choking smokers more likely (ho ho ho, hee hee hee, ha ha ha)

Come on, yes Molly had some misses, but he helped give many now household names some big breaks, and he had a great eye for talent. Overall I would believe that his strike rate was vastly superior to many St Kilda Recruiters, especially Trout and Co.

ABBA would probably never have become billionaires without his early opening of doors for them in Australia.

Steele started this year flying. Probably his best season since he finished high in the Brownlow. I think it was the GWS game he jarred his knee and never looked right afterwards.

He had a quiet patch midway through the year but finished the year very strong. IMO this was because Zones and Clark were finally fit and able to help out at the coalface. Both of them being healthy and in good form were a significant part of why we started winning games.

I pray both stay healthy, Windy completes a full season and Pou takes the leap we all think he can.

30+
Playing CHF

Come on Tommy, it's preseason and nearly Christmas. You need to triple that at this time of year. 90+ playing CHB. Hunter Clark for the Brownlow and our new ruck from the SANFL to be the new Max Gawn while winning the most admirable thighs award from Sinclair..

These are my thoughts as well. If we have an injury free year we should go well.

Membrey wore #1 in his 1 game for Sydney.

We have also made the list better in the off season. Macrae is a huge acquisition in my opinion. Get on the Saints at $5.00 to make the 8!

Training Report 13/12/24 New
Random thoughts from today's training

‐‐----------------------------------------------------------

Tauru made a short appearance.
Big group. Only Stocker not in main group.
Would hate to try to move Boyd off the ball.
Henry out amd running with no knee strapping.
Roh and Hammer in fluro hats.
Jack Carroll running laps with Windy both in rehab, don't look injured. Maybe a nick somewhere.
Henry in rehab in good spirits. Separate program to the other two. Lots of work on knee bends and quads. Slow run through, gradually getting quicker, not labouring, gait looks good, obviously no direction changes. Some gentle kick to kick, followed by ground ball gets.
Main group, 50 metre sprints with a ball through obstacles. Jones, Pou powering with lots of talk.
Henry feeling his knee. More three quarter run throughs. Think it will be a while before he is fit. Running 66's in 11 seconds, improving it to 10. Henry looks OK for a second or third running session, time to look at match sim.
Two umpires just ran past, looks like sim of some kind.
Three groups, forward pocket Nepean Highway end practising close in tackling and evasion taken by bj.
Middle group half field non contact sim with umpires.
Far end ground ball gets then disposals.

Groups interchanging every 5 minutes. In sim Arie running hard. Dodson and Pou look good. Dodson looks like a footballer.
McLennon in fluro hat.
Good to see the umpires coach ( the one Hird didn't like) with the umpires, discussing positioning etc. They need to train as much as anyone else. Elini is back. Think she had a baby. Looks fit. Good to see her back, she is not a bad umpire.
Jack Steven at training speaking with Tony Brown. Looks pretty fit taken a bit of weight off.
Think Jack Voss is training.
You really know what Bolton wants.
Christ knows why we were so down on Travaglia during draft time, including me. Holy hell the kid is good, clean, great disposal. Wonderful mover, can see him debuting very early. Personally more impressed than I was with Wilson this time last year.
Lyon looking for width then through the corridor. Looking to stretch oppo zones.
Bolton and Lyon in deep discussion, something about Tim Tam's v Iced Vo Vo's. Got heated at times.
20 minute full field sim, no Max, Windy, Hammer. Boyd v Roh.
Boxshall with a nice mark and goal. Has a boot.
Heath forward looks involved.
Big pack mark from Boyd.Beast.
High intensity, Keeler, Sharman prominent. Arie off a HB. Heath with a big pack mark and play on. Definitely developing. Full contact, Boxhall gets a bloody mouth. Wilks on Keels good contest.
Trav fumbles in traffic, two steps recovers and kicks to advantage.
High pressure, Macrae nabs Pou with a strong tackle.
Carroll in the match sim so is obviously OK. No Hugo today.
Buts, Clark, Roh, Steele, Wood up the race not involved in last part of the match sim.
Macrae into the rooms with a trainer.
Younger blokes in green vests, shots at goal. Yellow bibs v red training tops, cross the field, back half transition
Young ones, Dodson, Travaglia and Boxshall look good. Heath and Keeler continue to trend upwards, Boyd is a beast and contrary to some reports can play.
Now red shirts v green bibs with yellows taking shots for goal. Brad Hill is evergreen.
Macrae grabs his runners and goes inside.
Running now so Adios amigos.
