It seems like every f***ing year we get 1-2+ major long terms injuries to KEY players in the preseason or first week or so of the season.

I'm not talking hammies or small soft tissue, I'm talking half year / full year ending injuries before we've even started... It makes us feel like we are on the back foot from the word go, and I'm sick of it.

And McStay, Murphy and Mitchell are ‘key’ players.

Let's try something different..which players have been hyped up during pre-season & actually lived up to or exceeded the expectation?

Nick a close second, possibly a chance to overtake.

I’ve only recently figured out that Tex Walker is 192cm and I was quite shocked. He looks much bigger than that.

Then Charlie West, who is surely above 195cm and is already built quite big and strong. I hope we’ve found that type of key forward that can dominate the way Tex has.

I’m really excited at this kids potential. Exciting future ahead.

Decent size lad Westie

Definitely KP sized, I thought Darcy was listed as 201cm and Charlie 194 cm well looking at that I am not sure there is a 7 cm gap between them so either Darcy is shrinking or more Likely Charlie is growing and yes I think he does look like a young Jono Brown.

Apparently he already has the size of a KPP and he has natural mongrel which come,s in handy on the field a lot of the time as you rightly it could be happy days indeed.

Yeah, I love the 'competitive nature' rep he has. Can't be taught.
Clearly taller than last year's measures & the frame to match.
Can he mark the thing?

Once again Gone Critical's anti-growth spurt propaganda has been debunked by bigfooty photo forensics.

That reads like Charlie is a high first round pick, which begs the question - why was he taken so late in the draft?

Unless the draft really was a super draft…

Really. What are you seeing ? Last chance saloon for Reef. Hope you’re right. I don’t see it .

Imo hasn't been given a fair crack. For TOG he's our best goal kicker.
Gets limited game time and also very rarely gets more then 1 week in the team.

He's quick, good size, generally cracks in when not blowing a gasket.

Kicking skills are good and reasonably agile for his size.

It's kinda disingenuous to use age at all in this scenario given the further context I provided.

In the end, Reef was drafter a year earlier than Nick. He's been "in the system" an entire season longer and was drafted in the same year as Beau who established himself in the starting lineup by the end of 2022.

Reef was also recruited as a midfielder so he can't even fall back on the "talls take time" get out of jail card because he's technically a midfielder and midfielders are generally ready quicker.

Mind you, this all comes from someone who has been basically staunchly in Reef's corner from the start. I reckon he's been hard done by when it comes to being given a chance to actually establish himself properly.

I will say Reef although recruited as potentially a tall mid played only a few games in the role pre AFL.
He also has hardly played it as part of his development at VFL level.
Been mostly used as a marking fwd and at 194cm would fit the tall fwd takes time bill.

He also as you stated has been given very limited time at AFL level in games and for TOG is iirc our best goal kicker.
Has been used in many games as the sub come on for 10 to 15 minutes.
They also drop him typically after one week in the side.

Honestly I still think he could make it as a fwd if given the same backing in the side as others have received.

But it is pleasing from all reports he is showing great signs down back.

Edit: Also think it's unfair to compare him to Nick Daicos who is on another level then majority of the comp. Talking about someone who is spoken of as one of the best juniors in the AFL era.
