Game Day Preliminary Final, 2022 - Geelong vs. Brisbane Lions

Quietly confident about tonight, actually trying to lower my hopes a little so I'm not too disappointed if we don't make it, but ecstatic if we do! That seemed to work well the last couple of weeks.

Even if we don't get over the line tonight, this has been a wild ride and already so excited for the coming year.

Hard to explain the list of emotions I've gone through today. So couldn't imagine what the boys are feeling.

The young Lion stopped to drink of the cool water of the stream, running through a dark, damp forest.

He was tired, lost and alone. It had been so long since he had eaten that hunger had become a heavy emptiness that pained him.

As he lowered his head, he heard a voice from the other side of the stream.

"Where are you going, little Lion?" spoke Old Lion, watching the cub, for even the oldest Lion was but a cub to Old Lion.

"I don't know", answered the young Lion. He peered at Old Lion, sitting regally on the yonder bank. Glistening, primal, powerful.

"Perhaps you need to find your Pride, no?". The Old Lion sat up on his haunches, muscles rippling from flank to nose.

As young Lion paused to reply, the Old Lion shimmered and faded.

Young Lion pondered, thinking how he could find other Lions. Until at last, in agony from hunger and despondent over his loneliness, he roared in desperation.

And from around him, the silence of the forest gave rise to answering roars, some close by, some faint.

He roared repeatedly, moving towards the sounds.

Over time, he found others and together they began to hunt and kill, but they needed a proving ground, an arena in which to prove to themselves that they were a Pride.

And together, the Young Lions strode free of the dark forest and they realised they weren't alone.

They looked from high upon a green vista stretching as far as the eye could see. Animals of all kinds roamed freely.

The Young Lions looked upon the scene and knew in their Pride that all below them were prey.

And were happy.

I got goosebumps reading that and the onions affected my eyes as well.

Would love every one of our boys to read that. Today. Now. Before the game tonight.

Ironically against the Cats in 2004 it was incredibly nerve wracking.

History on the line, had to play at the MCG and they were young and on the up. Think they got in front in the 3rd and I thought we might be done but the boys had a bit more gas in the tank.

Little bit of role reversal tonight in some parts.

Even 2003 PF we looked cooked at 3/4 time against Sydney but such was the belief of that team and yeah 2004 PF at MCG was brutal, Power concussed, Hart smashed, Brown on one leg, Vossy on the bench…
