He would sign the permit application form which would then be submitted by the club to the VAFA on 1/2/2012.
Contracts useless in VAFA, not sure about that. It is perhaps possible to prepare a contract with a nil monetary value but listing other benefits a club may be able to offer.

All done on line so no need to sign anything. In many years involved in the VAFA I have never seen a player contract in this comp. Would be fraught with danger to produce some conditional contract based on reward in an amateur competition I reckon.

Perhaps he has given a verbal undertaking but I suppose only those from UB or the player himself would know for sure.

Incorrect. Registrations entered online but clubs still submit a signed copy of the registration to the VAFA.

I am not suggesting that player contracts should be based on reward or become the normal in the VAFA. Surely if a club from a professional competition is able to demand all players to sign a playing contract, any solicitor could prepare a non financial reward playing contract for an amateur player wanting to play in the VAFA. Perhaps the VAFA administration should investigate this aspect to assist clubs in retaining their players.

Incorrect. Changed last year. Only new registrations required to sign a hard copy registration form. All others – i.e players changing between clubs and competitions are done on line via as long as they have a ‘footy web’ number. Anyway we could go round and round about this. Point is that the player in question unlikely to have signed anything at this stage - clearance, contract or otherwise.

Your comments about contracts have some merit but it just does not happen.

Your statement differs to what is on the website contained in the fact sheets for player registration for 2011.

heard from a source from the essendon region that dean laidley could join the berries on the coaching panel or in some way shape or form. good get if it comes about to be true

Thought this post was the most ridiculous rumour I had ever heard on BF......until it was just confirmed on the VAFA website.....my apologies TAG...
Simon Atkins also.....wow!!

In the absence of a definitive answer the debate turned to whether he would have in fact been ‘signed up’ - as in cleared, contracted etc. As clearances don't open until Feb and contracts don't occur for players in the VAFA I guess no one here can give you a black or white response.
Uni Blues folk not known for their BF musings so it might remain a mystery for now. A big coup for the Blues if correct.

I have heard the following 'signings'

Old Camberwell Mark Williams
Uni Blues Ian Prendergast
St Kevin's Mark Coughlan, Rick Ladson
St Mary's Danny Hughes unless drafted
Old Scotch Ryan Houlihan, Wade Twomey
St Bedes Mentone Myke Cook, Jye Bolton, Scott Reed

A couple of others floating around.

houlihan has gone to the heildberg in the northern league so your source is wrong.

If these 3 suit up for St Bedes they will be very hard to beat. Cook and Bolton must have been stiff to get delisted. You would expect both are still capable of making an AFL list somewhere else. Big recruiting coup if this is on the money.

The Snowdogs look forward to re-acquainting ourselves with the leafy surrounds of many eastern suburb and bayside suburbs of Premier division sides and surprising you all. The snakepit will not let you down either, we will welcome you with open arms and send you off broken and beaten. Bring on 2012!

It doesn't matter who you have helping you, you guys have no talent other than a 33 year old full forward, who won't see any of the ball next year because your midfield is no good!!!
1-17 for you guys next year.

That's what I like, a prediction of our win/loss ratio nearly 5 months out from round 1. You will be eating a lot of humble pie next year my friend, believe me. Merro will be accompanied by 2-3 recruits all 193 cm or above, one of whom will ensure we win a truck load of mid field ball. Watch out, there's a Premier B smokey coming, and it's not Caulfield!

Um, Caulfield are in A aren't they? Love you talking it up, you only got to A because Brighton and SKOB are chokers.

A is a different place my friend, you guys will have to find 10 players based on what I saw vs Old Brighton in that final.

Give you a tip Bernardssssss....and agree with some that your boys are just ok! gF day was not a great display from where I was sitting especially from "Merrrrro" and that other scared rat with the long hair off half back (shit he was embarrassing). The other 9 clubs in Premier would be slightly happy but seeing junk is taking training must mean they're Monty's for top 4! But seriously , Danny Burne is the only good thing that ever come out of the pit.....apart from the Gollum bros! Oh and let us know who the 2-3 talls are as we'Re all sooooo trucking scared!! As for Caulf, they made you look silly without even tryen. See ya

I don't really expect any of the other 8 Premier div sides to take any real notice of us at all. You and I obviously have way too much time on our hands to be going at it in early December, and I really couldn't give a shite what your obviously expert eyes did or didn't see on GF day last year. If there's not at least half a dozen new faces running around in our 1's come April 21, 2012, I'll be very surprised. A very different outfit to the one you are so dismissive of. Enjoy your Xmas. Will respond to your inevitable diatribe in the New Year.

All I'll say is,don't beat your drums too early! Rooky error even if u have the 6 newbies you say u do.

What is this forum for if not to beat our own drum and generate some chatter? It's all in good fun, and the term "rookie error" is a fallacy, particularly in an anonymous on-line forum like this one. An opinion, one that is, admittedly an excited and hopeful one, is still just an opinion. And believe me, I was just as hopeful at the start of the 2011 season when we lost the first 3 rounds by a collective 360-odd points! As for the 6 newbies - don't we all have them at this stage?! By the way, which of our 2012 opponents do you follow?

Good to see some banter. A Section will be very strong next season no doubt. I'm sure the Bernies boys will be happy to avoide relegation first up.
My tip is St Bede's Mentone at this very early stage, have some mega recruits x 8
