Seriously Bedford Williams a great coach with an awesome record. How about you just worry about Ormond avoiding relegation and the enivitable slide of a Prem C club that can’t field an U/19’s.
It came from people inside Ajax , as they're worried about the future. Not bagging the club at all , it's sad when this happens to clubs. People there at all levels couldn't stand Choco , why do you think Dimma got rid of him.

Hi All,
Back on board for 2019!
Will be interesting Prem C year. Was at BBQ in Echuca on weekend and pleasantly surprised to hear discussion turn to VAFA footy. Kept quiet and listened for a while- heard Mazenod going to struggle even in C and worried about double drop. Uni Blacks rapt they can keep Jarrod Carlson from Marcellin who had a Stella year last year. Marcellin with a few big names back but getting a commitment being the problem from a few. Expect big ex tiger listed player to return there, young gun return from broken leg last year, ex student from NFL and past player or two.
Speaking of draws Marcellin have a period of 14 weeks inc byes between home games at one stage- can’t be good for social fabric or for fund raising at an amo club. I guess school schedule rules!
I agree with sentiment that teams coming up might be often overstated and teams coming down underestimated- teams already there always optimistic. From what you be seen, Willy will be team to beat.
Sad to read Groth going, adds a lot to OI footy.

Mr Woger,

Nice post.

Marcellin have no say in it. School determines the ground usage, and Marcellin play their school football on Saturday, and need the main oval until at least 1.00pm.

Carl will be a loss.

Ebinger has committed to Willy which will make them hard to beat.

Bring on pre-season

Interesting reading. Always great to hear people talk VAFA footy with I know a mate who nows a guy who plyed darts with some guy form that club.

Marcellin were a strong club in A Grade for years. Was said to see them double drop a while back. So hard to re-engage the school. Fingers crossed they are sorting themselves out. Imagine an A grade of Marcellin Trininty and Carey. The Buleen Rd derbies would be every couple of weeks

Mazenod really concerned about a double drop? Surely they can't be that bad. What has happened at the club? 2016 flag in C and mid tier B has Phibbs taken guys with him to another club? Any info on the new coach? Is he no good or they just don't have the cattle? Would be a shame to see them in D grade. Surely enough kids coming out of the school to help them hold on?

Doesn't surprise me about Choco. Nice on the surface but i've heard he is a complete nut case. He would had them training ridiculous stuff and the expectation would have been way too much. Couldn't happen to a nice bunch of blokes ;)

Without accounting for retirements from various clubs or players returning who may of missed last season

The clearances tell an interesting story

The two relegated teams:

Ajax - have signed on 25 players, 20 of them coming from there U17s SMJFL side
With only 2 players leaving via clearances

Mazenod - have signed on 6 players, 2 of them from junior football
With 10 players leaving (a fair number to a local EFL club)

Our two promoted teams:

Ormond - Have currently cleared no one. They had a very underwhelming U17 side in the SMJFL, rumour has it though the club is struggling to field a 19s??
7 players have left, most back over to Ajax.

Hampton - Signed on 12 players, 8 of them from U17 SMJFL side
3 players have left

My prediction is for our two promoted teams to struggle with the step up in C grade.
Mazenod to struggle to keep pace with the 4 and Ajax to be a tough team to beat, unless you get on top of them early.

Our 2018 C Grade teams:

PEGS - Look to of recruited strongly, 12 players cleared.
Although with 10 players moving on. Some decent names too.

Ivanhoe - Have recruited well, 9 additional players with 2 being from junior football.
3 have left the club. Rumour is though a couple key older players have hung it up..

Marcellin - Signed 10 players plus another 8 from junior football ranks.
Only 3 have moved on

Mentone - Have signed on 34 players, however 22 of them are from the SMJFL, many said to be current Mentone Grammar boys.
1 key player moved to SFNL.

Camberwell - 3 players signed on
2 left. Not much happening here

Williamstown - 27 players signed on, 23 of them coming from there junior affiliate. (Who didn't cause to much damage in their competition.)
4 players have been cleared elsewhere, however this read false. 3 of them are cleared to play VFL, looming as a scary proposition when
Willy VFL has a bye or they don't get picked.
Word also is the league BnF is on the move?

Lastly looking at each clubs 19s
Willy had two teams, one being R/U of section 2, the other in section 5
Old Ivanhoe section 5th section 2
Mazenod R/U section 3
Marcellin prelim section 3
Mentone - Hampton - Ormond were mid-bottom of section 3
Pegs R/U section 4

Ladder prediction is hard
Williamstown the team to beat.
Dark horse: Ivanhoe
Biggest drop from 2018: Camberwell
Relegated: Ormond + Hampton

Final 4 - Willy, AJAX then throw a blanket over AGS rivals Mentone, Ivanhoe + Marcellin

Great analysis given the data you have to work with.

Willy will be aching from the loss last year. We face them Round 1 ant Willy. Hoping all their VFL players are required.

Biggest movement is that of Ben Hart (Capt of OC) to Monash Blues according the Prem B Board.

Just for the record our Under 19's missed the finals by 2 points, but had beaten all the finals contenders in the 2nd half of the year comfortably. Many are coming through, and hopefully htey will see good game time this year.

Can confirm 100% Ben Hart to Monash (from what I know Monash are re-loading in a big way) and word is he is close to fit and firing after playing injured all last year.

Big in for Ivanhoe being Veluto, he is big, Mitris is big. There aren’t many backs that will go with them.
Will the plane trips affect him ..

Great start on prem C

From what I seen and heard over the summer
Willy yes three on vfl list, with no development program now we will see them more than not. (I’m hoping)
No retirements I have heard of. The unusual o/s travel for a few through out the year, no different to other teams
There are one or two new faces that will push for seniors and add to the depth
Unders will have two teams again not sure what divisions, with good numbers as mentioned a lot coming up

And yes there is an itch that needs scratching after last year

Has Groth moved on ?

Carl has moved to Fitzroy Stars with former OI players, Hayden Heta (Capt. Coach) and Chris Johnson (Ass Coach/Player).

Carl gave great service and he is looking to finish off his career with some folding in his pocket.

Went with our absolute blessing.

Mazenod will struggle with many senior players out the door to the EFL. Few older types back from injury but no recruits to speak of. Phibbs gone as well which will leave the biggest hole in their playing list.
Phibbs did an amazing job to pull the club back together after the major debacle from the previous coach. However, in my opinion, he struggled a bit as a coach when the going got tough. Was a brilliant when he had the best list in Prem C, but over the last couple of years his coaching inexperience came to the fore. Coaching structure off the field was non existent which is a major concern when you are playing coach. But, his contribution to the Nodders over many years was nothing short of outstanding.
By all reports, the players are liking the new coach and are enjoying the training. Big worries with the playing stocks though.

FWIW at least one team has double dropped over the past 5 years or so, sounds like it is more likely Mazenod than AJAX.

FWIW as I said a couple of weeks ago Blues are angry. How did they get Hart?

Ormond struggling to get 19’s , nothing from the Ormond mouthpiece.
Hearing that the Old
McKinnon and De La mobs have wiped out a few 19’s in the region. A couple of SFL’s included.

Old Mckinnon and Gleneira have developed a great relationship over the last couple of years and it may be more fruitful for the college and the footy club with the new campus around the corner from the ground.

Absolutely bulltish. Clearances indicate 0 SMJFL kids to DLS from St Pauls, 0 from Bentleigh and 1 from M’Beena so why would you post this crap.

Murrumbeena having 19s in 2019 for the first time in a few years. Bentleigh, St Pauls and Beena are absolutely full of ex De La players. A stack of young blokes followed a previous DLS 19s coach to St Pauls a few years back. Swings and roundabouts. St Pauls jump in and out of U19s year to year. I stand to be corrected on this comment but reckon they may have even pulled out mid 2018 so would not put much weight on the fact they don’t have 19s on 2019.

We always get a few Ormond juniors into our 19s who went to the school but probably a fewer number than usual this year.
