I know people bag players like Masten [ me included ] but as we look to go B2B we must identify any weaknesses/areas we can improve.Watching the Gf [ many times ] i thought Masten and Cripps were our worst..One offs or not up to the big stage?? As i repeatedly say "some players get you to finals;some players win you finals".They are not always the same player.Masten had a solid year, with his two tackles being memorable; but i look at his position and think "would a Waterman or a Watson bring more to the table"?? POTENTIALLY yes. Both are much more talented so the question is can they give the same amount of run/linkup?If they lose a bit on that side does their better skill set and toughness make up for it? Cripps is a workhorse;would a Petrol bring more to the table? hes probably a better mark and has freakish pace;maybe he would shine on the big stage! Cole will have the pressure on;i like him and i like his tough attitude. That said i would really like to see him on the ball.He is tough and very composed with ball in hand.People keep talking about Duggan going into the middle, but i like him back and i think we can do without Cole down there and would like to see him in the guts.Im sure the club has plan A,B and C for each position and our depth is scary.
Yep.Forgot about Venners.agree he will be part of our future. My comments [thrown out there] are both about what they bring;and whether somebody else can bring more.We dont need to massively change but we do need to tweak.Venables was easily our quietest performer in the GF. No way Masten or Cripps were close to being quieter. (That's not a knock on Venables either, I think he will become a very good player)
I think you underestimate the roles Cripps and Masten play and a lot of it is intangible (Insert Brandt College)
Cripps provides a significant amount of forward pressure once the ball hits the ground in the I50. That doesn't have to come through tackling necessarily but chasing and corralling to provide implied pressure to rush kicks / decision making.
There aren't many stronger two way runners in the comp than Masten, his ability to work into position tom provide link up play across half back through to half forward is valuable. Uses short kick and invariably hits his targets.
I am not the biggest fan of either tbh, but can recognise they both have a defined role in the team and execute their plan effectively.
Before any games have started I see Waterman as the front runner to take Leccas spot. Watson as talented as he may be, must demand his spot through extended consistent periods of high performance (seemingly the knock on him is his inconsistency) until then, first right should go to the incumbents.

a small point perhaps, but re-Cripps+Masten, some players can also have a bad game one week and a good game the next, a bad final one week and a good one the next.. or a bad GF one year and a good one next year ... lots of variables.I know people bag players like Masten [ me included ] but as we look to go B2B we must identify any weaknesses/areas we can improve.Watching the Gf [ many times ] i thought Masten and Cripps were our worst..One offs or not up to the big stage?? If Masten is fit he plays round 1.
He is the strongest runner in our squad who has the foot skills to match it.
They all are. He’s a mad Dockers supporter .
Saw William's a few times at under 18s, he's a gun. He's got one of those floating leaps where you hang for a bit. He's ideal for deep fwd and second ruck role. Lucky he was still there at draft night.Of the new guys Foley is the only one that’s come close to doing full training- O’Neill, Williams, Cameron and Edwards have all had restricted preparations. That said he is working hard and I’m getting better at picking him up during drills after struggling to notice him earlier
And yes Williams does have sticky hands, think he’s going to be a beauty
Agree entirely with your views on Duggans leadership potential- very much a prominent figure in the younger group. Crazy to think he’s not long ago just turned 22
Good Good . Cos we need 90 marks a gameAnd yes Williams does have sticky hands, think he’s going to be a beauty
EfaThe power of Chris compels you

Now I'm not saying he's going to be the Michael Jordan of the AFL, but he is.
