without repeating the case for and against whether a player can kick or not, any player that can't kick well enough is either not drafted or gone soon after:)
I am really excited about what lies ahead, the last 3 years drafting and trading has been very good, our list is considerably better, the bottom has been improved a long way and that leads us to being more competitive, 6-7 wins would be a great year imo.
2025 draft an elite ball user mid and accumulator and a KDEF, 3 FS NGA's and that will be enough turnover of the list in drafting larger numbers as we will be tipped in the balance of very young.
Chad Warner in, then put all our 2026/27 efforts and draft capital and salary cap into trading in FA & trade targets that fit our list needs in the 23-27yo bracket that improve our list.
Top up on a small amount of elite draftees and get aggressive at the trade table, onwards and upwards, finals 2028.

We’re a fickle bunch, aren’t we.

Recruit players coming to the club partly to help drive training standards, than are shocked when they outperform our current group. Also, it’s only the start of preseason- will be curious to see how they are tracking at the end of preseason.

And to think Ginbey still will get quicker and stronger from here. Off the charts kind of profile he has.

G'day squires, here's some shabby footage from this morning for those of you who are obsessed.
Was pretty windy and I was just balancing the thing on me knee, so much of it is quite shaky - unlke our footskills which are beyond reproach.

This is bloody brilliant.

Good to see the wave running out of defense towards the end from an opposition long bomb into D50.

Maric on the end of a few chains of handballs and then distributing out of D50.

There was a nice moment where Flynn handballs into the back of Burgiel... c'mon mate get your head in the game

Ginbey might be at his peak speed now depending on how much he bulks up. Really hope he does put too much more on, just needs to know how to use what he's already got

Still can't believe JD dropped that.
Marks that ball and kicks the goal and Jack's image/rep might be completely different, although it wasn't the only dropped ball at a crucial moment.
He might rip it up when playing against us, some kind of payback?
He was certainly aware of the knock on him from fans etc...

Solid enough 90 minute session that again had a heavy emphasis on skills with no contested/contact work. Did a bit of running through the warm up but no extra running during the drills

• Didn’t see - Waterman, Sheed, Reid, Allen, Barnett
• Hewett, Chesser, Hutchinson and Kelly were doing stationary handballs for a short time - maybe 15 minutes before departing. Hewett and Hutch came back out at the end to do goal kicking practice with the rest of the group
• Petruccelle and Jamieson did a bit of light running early but we’re done after about 20 minutes
• Hough and Yeo did a bit of running work together for about the first half hour as they continue to build. Hough in particular was getting up to near top speed in some of his run throughs
• Duggan, Bazzo and Graham were both out there but skipped a lot of the drills.
• Ryan trained and his kicking was a feature in one of the drills in front of me
• Brockman and Dewar both made an appearance and did most/all of the session
• Long was involved for the entire session and did a bit of extra rehab work with a trainer as everyone else was wrapping up
• Gov trained for most of it and looked fine. Bear in mind there was no contact work
• Johnston did a big chunk of the session including some of the skill drills even though he still has that brace on. Spent the rest of the time alternating between talking to fans and running laps
• Flynn continues to look in good shape
• Cole did all the running but sat out the ball handling drills
• Evans and Walley both trained for the first time along with 2 or 3 other young blokes who I didn’t recognise. Walley looks and moves a bit like Dewar whilst Evans is like a marginally taller Champion
• Sandy Brock isn’t looking out of place and has a good marking action but he is pretty one sided on that left foot of his

Sheed's last quarter of the 2018 GF was enormous, with multiple contests and hard 2 way running and his goal often over shadows those other contributions.

Post 2018, its almost like he was content with what he had achieved previously and I suspect him not going on with it was a combo of not being able to get his body right and Simmo being incapable of delivering hard truths/making demands of the 2018 coterie.

In fact Sheed's and Simmo's winding down of their careers have a lot of similarities, with both going out with a whimper.

Mind you, still living off the 2018 glory, with the GF saved to foxtel and still getting a run every couple of months (mainly at around 1am after getting home from beers) - thanks sheed/simmo.

That and Rd 6 2024 (Jackson getting pawned by BW repeatedly in marking contests, is epic)
I still think it was an issue prior to this and the main reason why he was dropped 3 or 4 times in the 2018 season to go back to the WAFL to work on defensive running.

Thanks Keys that’s a thorough write up! I think I speak for the greater community when I say it’s greatly appreciated!

Glad to hear Ryan is still sharp as a tack! Anyone else catch your eye?

Dont be too concerned about Ginners bulk. A quick glance at the Olympics 100m line up should be enough to convince anyone that muscle bulk does not hamper speed. Most of those guys are peaking mid-late 20s too.

Referring to someone as “Ginners” unlocks some memories for me

Yes but in footy the issue is that bulking up can impact on your overall endurance and which will then impact speed due to fatigue.

I think Ginbey will be fine at his height/frame he doesn’t really need to put much on to be a force any way

This was every preseason training write up last year right until he went hamstring tendon went pop.

How're the new draftees looking?

Yeah he wont actually put on much more weight I dont think. He will always be big frame with a lot of muscle but it is well tuned plus he has a tank.
Bit like Natanui, he has the athletisim and muscle to carry a big frame and still move like lightning. Even in his later years he was carrying excess and after 2 knees NN would still sometimes clock the fastest peak speed on the ground.

According the west article the other 3 were East Perth’s Jake Caton and Swan Districts forward Tylah Williams as well as Charlie banfield.
