Surely the severity grading needs to take in account the players medical history in regards to being concussed.

Brayshaw and our own Murphy go down concussed from the most minor of contact let alone severe contact.

They also need to use their eye balls as it was pretty normal contact in terms of clashing bodies.
This point has been made countless time here and elsewhere - you take your victim as you find them. So no, the player's "medical history" is never a consideration.

The grading is extremely simple here - careless high contact severe impact = Direct Tribunal Offence 3+ weeks.

The only hope is that it is not considered a Reportable Offence, which happens before we get to any consideration of the victim. If it gets to that level, Bruzzy is cooked.

It looks like a binary outcome - either no case to answer or 3 week suspension.

I can’t see how it can possibly result in a one week sanction.

On balance, I expect it to be sent to the MRO, Maynard to be suspended and then we pursue the appeals process all the way to the High Court of Australia if necessary.

Fans here saying Pies were fine to play arm wrestle in the 4th are way too optimistic.

Melbourne locked their forward half and forced Pies to play in that half most of the 4th.

I can guarantee you... Pies amd McRae would have preferred to kick 3 to 4 goals early in the 4th to have a 40 point lead and then punch the ball out of bounce every contest.... guarantee you.

Pies did not want the defense structure to be under the pump for 30 minutes non stop in that final quarter.

Pies would have 100% preferred to counter Melbourne goals with their own goals at worse amd waste them.

What we saw was a 13 point lead with 4 minutes to go and Demons were winning every marking contest.... that is not McRae's plan guarantee you. Risk of injury to the defenders also as they scramble every 30 seconds fighting in the defensive 50....

Sure, the forwards were having a breather and rest.. and the midfield looked like witches hats... but Pies defenders can assure you they didn't like the 4th quarter at all....

Maybe that is the problem... the forwards should have done more sprinting to be options for kick outs or add pressure defensively but that didn't happen.

2 points in the 4th quarter while being under the pump is not a sustainable plan at all.

um excuse me, have you seen the pies play at all over the past 2 years?

edit: sorry, you are right that it wasnt perfectly executed - especially the kicks down the line being outmarked - but we have seen this so many times before

My chook lotto guess is that it gets sent to the tribunal and he gets off there.

the grading system will play in his favour, by making it hard for them to squirm into some on the fence decision, like giving him a week. they wont have the guts to give him 3 weeks

All the main board losers whining about Maynard clearly have never done anything athletic in their lives. Maynard was trying to smother the ball while Brayshaw was coming full steam ahead. Unavoidable collision in a contact sport.

What should be done instead? Grow wings and fly away? Let Brayshaw crunch his ribs?

Backline won us that game, pure and simple. The pressure they had to absorb was astronomical. Mind you Melbourne's goalkicking didn't exactly do them any favours.

Midfield was off the pace tonight, plenty of players below standard.

Others have said it already, but how Lipinski still gets a game is anyone's guess. Has to surely be the one dropped for Nick next match. You would hope anyway.

The muppets in yellow were atrocious in that second half. Holding the ball, throwing it or chopping the arms doesn't exist if you're a Melbourne player, but the other way the whistle couldn't come fast enough.

Also tapped a few straight to Melbourne's mids leading to goals. However my biggest gripe with Cox tonight was how he stupidly spoils his own player as they are about to take the mark. That one where Markov had no one near him for 10 metres about to pluck the pill and Cox inexplicitly comes crashing over the top had me tearing my hair out.
I was right behind that one and you’re blaming the wrong player. Cox had the better position and Markov should’ve been getting the **** out the way, not trying to contest it.

Only if he knew Cox was coming, which he clearly did not. But, it is always on the player behind to be the one calling out to he who is in front. Cox is at fault for that one.

Just watching that Maynard - Brayshaw incident from the view of behind Maynard.

The nuff nuffs on the main board are screaming blue murder in that Maynard turned side on in the air and intentionally hit him. The vision shows nothing like it. He is pretty much still straight on with a slight twist before making contact.
God forbid a bloke with a history of rib injuries protects his ribs.

I think you'll find that a large number of them are Carlton fans who, about to enter their first final in a decade, have rediscovered the fact that their team exists and have begun to display that all too familiar arrogance and obnoxiousness everyone else almost forgot about.

Watch it again and Brayshaw turn into Maynard's line of fire instead of away.
He also doesn't look to brace himself or protect himself.

Much like the Ginni rule came in for Ginni, Brayshaw also like to abuse the DoC high contact laws for his and his teams advantage.

That will change at about 10:30pm tonight

I think you’re being a bit alarmist/pessimistic.

Max Gawn was like a brick wall in the 2nd half and Q4 in particular. He single-handedly stopped us from getting the ball forward on what seemed like dozens of occasions. It was a truly remarkable performance.

The good news is no other team we’ll face from here on has a player like that. No other team will be able to lock us into one half of the ground in the way that Melb did in Q4 last night.

With Naicos back, two weeks to rest and practise, plus likely bigger contributions from Jaicos, Jelliott and DeGoey, we are extremely well positioned.

Well, the defense is a part of our team and they did what they have done all year.. It's like saying if Bradman didn't score that triple century Australia might not have won. They have done the same most of the year and that is why we sat on top.
You make too much sense for this boar. Please post your factual, positive comments elsewhere 🤔

Darcy Cameron is a worry for me. I think Billy would bring more as a ruck.

Anyone see Goodwins presser?
On Maynard, well he jumped off the ground and knocked a guy out..
On Van rooyens hit on Mcstay. Well he stayed out there didnt he..
Biggest excuse ridden conference ive ever heard. Have fun through the draw of death campaigner.
Goodwin is a flog of a person. Some of his ex-team mates thought so. His ex-President thinks so & 70,000 Pies supporters at the MCG thought so & everybody who saw his interview know so... We can't all be wrong

Exhausted this morning after the match, might need the break as much as the players after a very gruelling affair.
Obviously set up the win in a brilliant first quarter. No surprise Gawn lifted after Cox out pointed him early.
Our whole team pressure and defence was superb. Most of Melbourne’s i50 entries were wide and shallow and they never really looked liked taking a mark. When the ball hit the ground we were outstanding. The whole team deserves credit for that.
Thought our mids nullified Viney while Petracca and Oliver never got easy possessions.
Overall it was a huge effort by all. We laid down the challenge to Melbourne “you are going to have to beat us” and they couldn’t. We totally deserved to be 25 up at 3/4 time and our 14-0 win record when leading at 3/4 time to me indicates we have what it takes to go all the way. It’s a massive positive.
Now the Dees are out of the way I think we’ll see us looking to the corridor and taking more risks in the Prelim. For me this game was a huge confirmation that we have what it takes, we can handle anything the opposition throws at us while we haven’t unleashed our devastating best but it’s coming.
