To be fair this is what 8 years since they last played finals? Been a laughing stock for a while.

Not long enough
I think they have done pretty well they shred their list and appointed a new young coach and back in finals in 5 years, most clubs would take that.

numbwombat just to expand on the expected value/adjustment side of things

The following table is the average of a group of inside midfielders, who played at least 80% game time and had a centre bounce attendance of at least 70%. It is expected that these midfielders when given this opportunity will pull around 25 disposals

The following table is a similar exercise by for KPFs who played at least 80% game time but did not attend significant number of ruck contestest. Compared to the prevous tables, the results are less granular, as the key stat goals, is a much more infrequent occurance.

An inside mid getting 20 disposals and 8 CP with 3 clearances, doesn't look so back but as a grounp under the conditions outlined above, they are as effective as a KPF who kicked less than a goal and got a behind or 2.

I only put mental energy into Hawthorn the week we play them. I'm surprised that isn't the case for everyone. Our clubs are the two powerhouses of the 21st century but we didn't have to completely bottom out twice before/around the successes. They have it over us in knockout finals but Mitchell is the only link there.

I wouldn't put it past them to beat the Dogs and confront us if we lose to Port.

That possibility makes me nervous.

Anyhow, I'm OT now....and we can void the discussion by winning on Thursday.

I sort of like the nerves, it's all part of it. Misery can be indulged after bad events actually occur. Each to their own though.

I'm looking forward to WB/Hawthorn and may the best team win. It'll be an exciting SF on that side of the draw no matter what happens.

It'll be a great game, and whilst I'll maintain a neutral facade I'll very quietly root for the Dogs.

Also why my nerves will be heightened. The chirping will be incessant should we ever lose to the Hawks.

Dogs will destroy Hawks. Forget about them.

Dogs are super primed for a Bradbury flag.

Neutral final v Hawks
Neutral final v Cats
Away final v Sydney / GWS (beaten both away this year)
Home final v Interstate side

6th shouldn't be a flag chance but they are right in it.

Hopefully we beat Port and stick a fork in that scenario.

Nowhere near long enough.

It needs to be a generational drought.
Its why people have to hope Richmond butcher the picks they are going to pick up over the next 2 seasons because if they are smart with their drafting they will be back in finals contention in 6ish years.

I think it's kind of the opposite. Hawks drafted but kept playing JOM, Mitchell, etc. They were able to put time into the kids and even though they were losing there was on field leadership and they at least tried to put a strategy together.

Richmond need Taranto, Hopper, and Lynch to stay fit or they could find themselves in a forever rebuild

And if Lynch jumps ship?

I wouldn't be excited by Taranto or Hopper either tbh.

odds on they’ll still be shit. You can’t draft your way out of the mess they found themselves with out a cheat somewhere. There aren’t any priority picks anymore

Look you would think so, and I thought Hawks would be shittier for longer but all it took was a few drafts, some smart trades and now they are back in finals.

That said, Richmond appear to have bottomed out worse than any club I can think of in recent history. They might have to bring Cotchin and Riewoldt out of retirement.

Have to admit, I felt Hawthorn would be playing finals this year or next. I like the way they don't have any stars. Bit similar to ourselves as we spread the workload around whereas 6 years ago, it was all down to Dangerfield and Selwood to play brilliant every single week.
Meek has been a gun recruit from Fremantle. I suspect he will start putting up similar numbers to the premier rucks of the competition in 2025.

Only thing better than taking out the flag would be taking the Poo & Wee out on the way through.
knock on wood GIF by Macher gesucht!

Like Essendon of old they've accomplished heaps by finishing 8th on the ladder

As much as I would like to see us win I just cannot see us getting close, they will carve our midfield up and i wouldn't at all be surprised if the game was over at half time, obviously i hope im wrong but our form has been all over the place whereas Port have been excellent.

Ok so you don’t have an answer. Should have just said so.

Your logic is "Let's not play Mullin on JHF because we didn't play him on Cripps or Treloar, even though Mullin did a great job on JHF last time, and also did a great job just a few weeks ago negating Brad Hill". Forgive me if I don't think that dribble is worth my time.
