Good analysis but vfl stats are useless for predicting the future

Agree.
I used what I could find re: 0-4 starts to show that historically it's been very VERY difficult to make Finals after a 0-4 start.
But the probability numbers (which rely upon P(win) = P(loss) = 1/2) are probably diminished by our 4-8-1 start, plus our chances of beating sides all ready IN the 8 would be < 1/2.
In raw numbers, based on 4-8-1 this season, Crows win record is 4/13 etc.
I realise only other Maths nerds will find it interesting.

Sympathise but understand the frustrations of the left/right hand thing.

That goal by Tex was GOTY worthy. It might not have been as spectacular as the Eddie style of goals from the pockets but the skill level in Walkers kick is OFF THE CHARTS!! Funny thing is, the better you know football, the more you realise how good that was. My single greatest memory of our 2023 season.
Those dribble-goals from a really tight angle are speccy and take a lot of practice to even attempt but there are plenty of random elements that determine whether the ball creates a goal or not.
Tex's goal was pure skill --- the candy-selling timed right and the kick as sweet/accurate as anything kicked, ever, AND on his wrong side. Incredible.

I love second- and third-effort goals like this one (Eddie!)

I'd be showing that to the boys every week as a great example of COMPOSURE, quick-thinking and taking your chances even when unlikely.
But only Rankine from our current group could emulate that.

No wonder I loved the little man😁😁😁😁

If we're smart (ha) we'll play Tex/Rankine in the SANFL, rest them next week and play them against GWS at home.

It's gonna be a bloodbath this week no matter how much talk Nicks and Co say.

Why would you play them in the sanfl? Either they’re fit enough to come straight back in or they’re not which means no games until after the bye.

Because rushing Tex back in to the AFL is counter productive? We probably could play Rankine if he's 100% fit against Sydney to ease the pain.

Wat!!!

Wtf GIF by MOODMAN

Just as easy to pick up an injury in the SANFL as itn is in the SANFL.

Sort of agree for the rest of 2024. But it we are serious about improving we need to trade for at least a B-Grade ruckman with genuine ball skills - eg kicking freely without have to plan the action for 15secs & being able to quickly handball more than 2m.
Like I've said no problem at all to try and find an upgrade on ROB if there's one available......Strachan is most definitely not that player either now or into the future.
If Strachan is as amazing as some on here would have you believe AFL clubs would have come for him before now and no doubt he'd jump at the chance to be the No.1 ruck at an AFL club. No matter what AFL club he was at he'd be ruck depth only, decent depth but that's it.

Absolutely hate Roo's involvement in the commentary here. "Noooooooooooo".

His kicking is bad but his decision making on when to kick is worse.

Attempting a snap shot at goal that is easily smothered and turned over to lose a match isn't a kicking issue. It's being dumb. No player in the AFL could have executed that kick from that position

Or burning open team mates 20m out from goal when attempting a 45m shot on the boundary. Okay maybe he'd kick more of those with better skills but he frequently makes the wrong decision in those positions.

His set shots aren't nearly as problematic as those decisons in general play

IMO he's a very selfish player inside 50 that gets tunnel vision and thinks he's being a hero - and that's a footy IQ problem

Hacking across body instead of using available options by hand was coached into our mids. Laird, Keays and Sloane absolute guns at indiscriminate kicking when off balance and facing the opposite direction.

He’s just an honest tryer

My son (9) is right handed but kicks left footed, its a real struggle with his kicking skills because of the ball drop with what is effectively his opposite hand.

I do everything right handed, except handball. Every bat, club, ball, racket etc is swung at or thrown right handed. But for some reason when I started playing footy, I started handballing left handed. Probably because I wanted to hold the ball with my dominant hand.

Or it just needed a rest

How many AFL clubs came for Matt Crouch?
