Cumming’s lack of possession would have something to do with us favouring our left flank when bringing the ball from defence to attack.

Given the number and quality of our left footers, this is going to happen on occasions.

I’ve always thought his best position was HB

However - today he did a lot of defensive work and he’s still fitting into our system

He and Peatling will have their day

Did we conceded a lot? Yeah but given me a 10 goal win every week.
EVERY week?? Hell yeah, including Finals and THE GF.
I would die a happy man :grinv1:.
Blighty would be smiling
Dunno .
Blighty Coached Geelong to high-scoring records in Minor Rounds ...
...
and 3 losing Grand Finals :grimacing::eek: with Gary Ablett Sr. in the side.
('89, lost 138 to 144 Hawks, kicked 8.5 in the last, still got done!
'92, lost 85 to WCE 113
'94, lost 63 to WCE 143).
I do not intend to rain on today's Parade. Great win. Big win.
But I wanna see better defence and fewer really basic defence players' skill errors.

You don't need a ruck, Brisbane proved this 5 minutes ago with Darcy Fort.

Geelong with Rhys Stanley, Toby Nankervis at Richmond, Scott Lycett at West Coast, Jordan Roughhead has a premiership with the Dogs etc. It's a lot of solid AFL citizens who get the chocolates here.

Reilly O'Brien is a capable of being a premiership winning ruck (providing Adelaide is good enough to win a flag), simply because you need **** all in the position outside of a guy who is willing to compete. Not to say we shouldn't be moving on here, as this seems like a position where the attitude needs to be trying to get as much performance from as little resources as possible.

I think an A Grade ruck is now the biggest weakness of this side.

Get through with ROB this year - trade or FA a quality ruck in the off season.

Flag window open.
Ruck is definitely the most glaring weakness for us, but I’m not concerned with getting an “a-grader” there personally. Darcy Cameron at the Pies is a perfect example of a team going on to flag success by just picking up a smart and coordinated ruckman who plays sensibly.

Nick Bryan would be a great get (he’s out of contract and a far better ruck than Draper), and he was certainly more influential than ROB today. He also had 500% more clearances than ROB in significantly less time in the ruck.

Besides Bryan, the only one who really interests me is Lloyd Meek who is also
out of contract. The Hawks will obviously want to keep him but they have splashed a lot of cash around lately so maybe we could pry him away with a big offer.

I really liked what I saw from McAndrew in the preseason too, and I’m not convinced ROB is the better option at AFL level now, let alone in Rd 1 2026.

Did Cumming actually do anything wrong today?

Not everyone in the team can have leather poisoning within a single game
Yeah i think we need to give some time for Cumming and Peat to find some synergy with the team.

Very impressed with nibbler, although it helps that he is replacing the biggest weakness in the team (Ned/Murph) and he was playing on his former home ground today.

You'd have to think the likes of Schoenberg, Dowling, Edwards, etc are looking at the way we've played today and thinking that their careers could be over.

Injuries will obviously come at some stage and open up opportunities, but damn, there's not too many holes in our 22 at the moment. And the only players in our best 22 over the age of 30 are Walker (34) and Laird (31).

Schoenberg for sure, he will regret how he turned up for pre seasons earlier on

Schoenberg? Yes.
Edwards and Dowling? No way. Theyre still very young and like you say Laird will be gone shortly.
Neale-Bullen won't be around forever.

Even if they become depth players they will get their chances with injury.

I'm quite liking Laird in his backline role, and he should be around another year or two at least. ANB looks like he could keep playing for another five years.

Dowling is pretty versatile and I can see him finding a spot in the side. Edwards, on the other hand, could easily end up delisted without playing a match, and that's not a knock on his ability. But where does he get a game? We've got quality players with AFL experience in Taylor, Nankervis, Dowling waiting in the wings.

Nanks is way better then ROB.

Lets not undersell it, Rob has the coordination and athletic ability as the blow up guys outside of caryards

Ugly

Yeah not much hey?
Blatantly Ugly: Sam Draper's stoopid three-in-one haircut.

Sad: that he doesn't have a mate or partner or anybody who likes him enough to tell him the truth.
Looks stoopid. Is stoopid. In as little as 10 years, he'll look back and go 'WTF was I thinking?".

The Ugly

First time we have played Essendon at the MCG since 1995

Come on AFL
To think not that much different to last playing them at Windy Hill, which we last played them there in 1991 in it's final year used. Crazy stuff.

Also a reflection of Dons (& us) being poor in finals for a long time as we would be more likely to play them at the MCG in a final.

No need for you to comment :thumbsu: .
His post is ridiculous; just a pattern of tiresome, irrational Keays-hating that goes back years.
Geez its so easy to live rent free in the heads of the feeble in here..

Its an opinion forum ffs.. you’ll be surprised to find that people arent always going to agree.

And that post the flog you are responding to put up… can you tell me when I wrote that please..

Gutless fxxkwits around here love to post old posts up..

They also think they're rebuilding while trotting out Dylan Shiel in defense and taking Ben McKay (on the worst contract in the AFL) and Jade Gresham as free agents.

They aren't rebuilding, they're just shit. They need a proper, genuine cleanout and rebuild
Nabbed Todd Goldstein and Jake Kelly as free agents too.

A bit of Ports method, signing guys to try and pop up another level, but the reality is the guys to usually get in free agency aren't at the level where they're game changers. Did the teams they signed guys off of make any realistic attempt to keep the guys leaving?

Brayshaw sacking Scott while telling everyone what a great coach he was has really ****ed Essendon.

He was a terrible coach then, he's a terrible coach now.

Same as Voss.
