Wow west coast are poised for a horrid few years apparently. All our midfield we have now will be peaking at 23-25 then with nic nat (25) tapping it to them. 2nd worst in the game? I don't think so

No.
Swallow is playing off the hbf because he's struggled to get a kick in the midfield. Just because he was #1 doesn't mean he will be a star. Looks decidedly average. Martin yet to play a game. Ablett will be a permanent forward by the time the other kids are peaking.
and yes because every player comes into the afl and becomes a star straight away

North Melbourne:
(Swallow, Ziebell, Mullett/Atley, McKenzie, Bastinac, Cunnington, McDonald, Wells)

Fixed.

If we're basing this on the next 2-4 years then Wells stays as he signed on for 3 more years, Luke McDonald can be added as we're guaranteed to pick him up this year through FS, McKenzie has already replaced Anthony, you can probably swap Mullett for Atley as Atley will most likely be moved to the midfield soon.

Gold Coast will have the GOAT. None of this pressure on O'Meara but Ablett will be playing at a very high level for a number of years. Then Swallow, Bennell, Prestia, O'Meara, Martin and a suite of amazingly talented Rucks feeding it too them .... good luck! Hunt will provide protection for them around the ball and McKenzie and Harbrow will add more run off half back.

Swallow hasn't set the world on as much fire as he was predicted to just yet, but I think he will be that all round superstar. In 6 years time and the other 4 young mids will be in the top 10 mids in the league!!

The only doubt to them being the best midfield of all time is that the club will probably be only able to afford to keep three of them under a salary cap long term. Even then I'm sure their managers will be telling them to play for 60% of what they can get on the open market for 5 years and then leave with a few premierships under the belt and take as much as you can for the last 5 years. Retire a multiple premiership player who will always have work in the industry if you're not a complete w***er like Aker.

they have Toumpas, Trengrove, Viney, plus this years second draft pick midfielder (Aish). then you have M.Jones, Blease, N.Jones, Evans, Magner, Sylvia. Plus if they trade right and get free agents then cant see why they cant have the best.

and as for Port there is no reasn why they cant be the 3rd best in the comp in a few years time

Viney - Yes. Trengove and Toumpas are maybes. Bit harsh on Toumpas who is still young but his first few games have been underwhelming. Trengove/Trengrove isn't the same player as 2 years ago. Aish isn't a lock for the 2nd pick. Easily could slip to 5th-6th. Blease and N.Jones are the 2 I like there, can be top line players, Jones is the anchor right now of the Demons midfield. Matt Jones is doing well. Magner and Sylvia are too hit and miss, they lack consistency. They need a top line midfielder and quick.

Port, well, Boak is great, Hartlett is hit and miss, 30 disposals one week, 10 the next, Wingard I like, will overtake Boak soon, Wines is good, Broadbent as well is hit and miss, 34 disposals last week but from rounds 4-10 had no higher than 19 disposals. Brad Ebert good, Gray is inconsistent, Moore as well and Monfries is a forward.

You look at the top line teams, they have A-Grade midfielders but when they have a bad game, their midfield is strong enough to cover their absence and do it well. I just can't see that happening in the near future with Melbourne and Port. Their depth of midfielders and lack of A-Grade/B-Grade midfielders, more so Melbourne than Port, is a concern.

You think Ablett will still be there in 4 years mmm?

These threads are annoying, just a pissing contest where everyone goes no it's my team because of x, y, z.
But I took the effort to post, might as well contribute.

I would say GCS with Bennell, Prestia, O'Meara will be the best, beyond that there is way too much variation and it's a pointless exercise because new guys will come in, injuries will occur, players leave etc. E.g just look how many first and second year players are already key to their midfields.

Lots of guys come in and change their team straight away, e.g Selwood, Fyfe, Rioli, Dangerfield, O'Meara, Wines and the list goes on.

Just about everyone in this thread has said Gold Coast...and not one Gold Coast fan has been seen in this thread so..

You could be right about melbourne but who knows

But for port in 4 years Boak will be 28 and even better than he is now, Hartlett will be 26 (and should be consistent and learn to break a tag you would think), Wingard will be 23 and in brownlow form (if he keeps improving), Wines will be 23 and probably about where Ebert is atm, Broadbent will be also 26 and start to be more consistent (although i see him being more of a half back), Ebert will be 26 and probably be where boak is atm, Gray will be 29 and probably will be a gun, Moore should be a good player but who knows at this stage (hopefully), and Monfries will be 30 probably forward.

I dont think we have anything to worry about and that midfield should be among the best

Statement of the year right there ladies and gentlemen.

They'll find some way to screw their careers up

Pure speculation and sorry to be a killjoy, but how can one account for the following:

1) As others have already pointed out, not sure I agree with all the names listed for each team's midfielders.
2) Trades/salary cap pressures/free agency (in and out).
3) Drafting of future midfielders.
4) Injuries.
5) Loss of form.
6) Breakout form/development.
7) Coaching/tactical influences and different roles for current midfielders.
8) Bloody umpires and AFL rule changes!

Yes this is a pointless exercise for many reasons, but will provide some shits and giggles on a slow day. Carry on.

Good effort OP.

These kind of threads turn into 'look what mistake you've made' when overall it's a pretty decent effort.

I would rank for the next 2-4 years,

1. Richmond (I don't think bias. Richmond's midfield is already top 4-6 in the competition and our oldest Midfielder is Brett Deledio at 26. Vlastuin, Conca, Ellis will all be A graders, B+ at worst. Grigg and Houli have jumped up further, Martin and Cotchin are already A & A+.

2. Gold Coast (Lots of development will need to take place for them to reach second, but this year they've made quite scary improvements. With the inclusion of Jack Martin I think they'll be quite ominous for years to come.

3. Sydney (Their 2009 draft was done right. I think Sydney are brilliant. Hannebery, Jack, Mitchell already three players that will take them further for the next 10 years).
Add on Parker to the swans midfield he's 20 now he's going to be a clearance king

Jack Martin though WILL be a star. Tearing the NEAFL up as an 18 year old! Gun stapled all over him!

I wouldn't be surprised if GC and GWS midfielders turn out very good, but not necessarily as good as people are predicting in this thread.

Purely from looking at history, several of those players will just be good solid 200 gamers and not necessarily top 10 in the comp.

Even Swallow for GC looks like a solid 200 gamer rather than a future top 10 player (as ppl predicted 2 years ago).

Not everyone will reach their absolute potential.

Not a lot of love for Collingwood here (like I expected..) but I would've thought Pendlebury Elite, Beams A+, Daisy A+, Sidebottom, Young had showed enough to be rated a bit better - from there Seedsman, Martin, Kennedy and Blair aren't a bad second line.
