Rank the best future midfields

Adelaide's will be interesting in 3-4 years time. Plenty of upside, probably missing one line breaking outside mid which should come in the coming draft.
Dangerfield, Sloane, Smith, B.Crouch, M.Crouch, Kerridge, Grigg
Adelaide should be good next year, forget about 3-4 years time. Most of those named are ready to go. They just need an injury free pre-season and some KPPs to remain uninjured for more than 1 consecutive match to give them something to work around.

might be a bit biased but crows midfield looks set:
brad crouch, dangerfield, sloane, douglas, thompson (next couple years anyway), matt crouch and even kerridge who is only tagging right now looks like a good future prospect

It's pretty solid. The Dangerfield, Sloane, B. Crouch combination is the real quality, very well could be 3 absolute A graders and they form a nice mix as well. I wonder how long Scotty Thompson can go for, he's really turned it around this year after a slow patch where he looked pretty ordinary.

I'd be tempted to keep Kerridge as the centre square tagger then put NVB back in as a half back/winger who can shut down running players.

Brodie Smith, Jaensch, Mackay as half back/wingers. Douglas as that high half forward type. Matt Crouch ready to go to replace Thompson. Grigg and Lyons haven't quite stepped up this year but they aren't bad options to have.

Maybe just need 1 more outside player who gets the ball and uses it efficiently. Someone to play the role Sidebottom does at Collingwood to complement Pendles, Beams and Swan. The James Kelly to Ablett, Corey and Bartel. The Nigel Lappin to Voss, Aka and Black. I'm always looking for fab 4's. Most premiership midfields are obviously deep with talent and they also have 1 or 2 of the top 10 players in the league in that year, but they also seem to have 3 or 4 who are just in their prime and compliment each other perfectly.

smith potentially gun winger in the coming years with henderson playing his position at HB when he returns from injury over the coming weeks possibly

no way un hell.
cotchin gets to many cheap ineffective disposals.
martin-is mainly a 1 way runner
vlastuin,ellis,conca- except vlastuin the other two are very inconsistent
lennon-played against this bloke in yr 12 and he has a laser boot. if developed properly he can potentially have the best kick in the comp.
miles-has got a lot to improve.

Ellis isn't inconsistent.

Cotchin is a gun but we don't have a proper inside mid getting the ball out to him. Even Selwood doesn't always have to go and get his own ball.

Thanks to already having a terrific midfield and likely being gifted the likes of Heeney, Mills and Dunkley (plus possibly others in their "academy") ridiculously cheaply over the next two offseasons (there's talk that all 3 of them are top-5 quality, but Sydney will get them for about picks 18, 18 and 38), the AFL Swans are going to give Gold Coast a huge run for their money over the next decade or so, as far as midfields go and will probably bat deeper.

5 young players with a lot of development a head of them will be the core of Melbourne's future midfield

Trengove-22
Tyson-21
Viney-20
Toumpas-20
Salem-18

Still need to add more this coming offseason, our first round pick will probably be used on an inside mid (Petracca/Brayshaw) and Billy Stretch as a father son selection either 2nd or 3rd round as a speedy outside player will give us a bit to work with to develop into a decent midfield.

Tyson the only elite prospect on that list based on current evidence. Salem looks a jet though without doubt.

Unconvinced both of Trengove and Toumpas will see out their careers at Melbourne, suspect at least one of those guys might walk.

Trengove wants to stay at Melbourne, he wants to be a one team player even though his family would love for him to come home :)
Toumpas is another story...

I think we are building a nice core midfield we just need a few more drafts to add to the depth and let the low picks we have taken mature further. We haven't used 2nd round picks on mids and got them right and it shows. We had the opportunity to take someone like Parker and we took Batchelor.

A Graders - Cotchin, Lids, Martin

Cotch at his best is a gun and so is Lids. Martin is having his best year by far and it is probably being over shadowed by our poor team form. Martin's tank has improved dramatically this year. Consistently getting between 25-35 touches.

1st rounders developing - Conca, Vlaustin, Ellis, Lennon

Conca has shown he is top quality in matches, but then goes missing in others. He can partly blame this on not completing a full pre season, but I would expect next year he becomes more of a consistant impact player as he will be in his 5th year at the club.

Vlaustin - Probably the best of this lot. Needs to build a tank because his inside work and pose outside is very very good.

Ellis - Think Ellis has the least scope for improvement. Probably just get better as the team develops due to his role. Good player.

Lennon - Will be a HFF/Mid rotation and has a damaging shoe. If he can become a full time mid then we would start to get some quality depth in the middle.

Others - Miles, Jackson, Foley, McDonough,

Miles - Has been a huge suprise. Was the exact type player we were missing and has come in and had an impact with his clearance work, clean disposal. Takes pressure off Cotchin. Great pick up.

Jackson - Is Jackson...can afford to have one hard working battler.

Foley - On his last legs

McDonough - A HBF/Mid..reminds me of Jarryd Blair. Hopefully can be a HF who rotates onto the ball for dept

Summary

We have our quality top 3 A graders and we need Conca/Vlaustin to come on and make our midfield a headache. Ellis is getting off the chain a little if 1 of these 2 can step up it will make a big difference. Think Conca is closest at the moment, with Vlaustin having more upside. Outisde of this my perfect off season would be using our first pick on a mid and then trying to trade using our second rounder and some other players with currency to obtain someone like Jon O'Rourke who hasn't lived up to potential.

Good base to work with.

Top post. Pretty spot on.

Agree with you on Tyson, Viney could be a very good player to, probably not elite but very good. Salem is a great ball user but he won't be a big ball winner, at best he might average low 20 possies a game.
Trengove wants to stay at Melbourne, he wants to be a one team player even though his family would love for him to come home :)
Toumpas is another story...
Trengove is from Naracootre which is 3.5 hours from Adelaide, not sure there is much difference in where he plays.

Toump loves Melbourne, great mates with Viney now, only way he'll leave if he can't break into the side and looks for better opportunity

He family a big crows fans, he and his sister are very close and lives in Adelaide after being in the London Olympics and finshed Uni. As I said, He wants to be a one team player, but as soon as he hangs his boots, he'll move right back to SA.

Leunberger/Martin(His current form is as good as any ruckmans) with Rich, Redden, Rockliff, Aish and Hanley. With Mayes, Taylor, Zorko, Lester, Robertson and Cutler all rotating through regularly.

Pretty good young group of Midfielders.
and Beams ;)
add in Paparone as that tall running linkman and we've got a good young list going forward.

*Naracoorte

His parents and sister now live in Adelaide though

In 2 or 3 years I still have faith we will have a top 3 midfield in the league.
