So I have McNeil and Swannie (my preferred captain) playing 2nd week. If I want to exploit this loophole I put McNeil on the field with the Big C, and put Swan on the bench. I then put the VC on someone like Hodge who is playing 1st week.

Then once the first weeks lockout is over, and I'm not happy with Hodge's score as skipper, I put Swan back on the field and give him the captaincy.

I only ask because I had a look at it and I can't make McNeil captain whilst he is sitting on the pine. I'm not too fussed because I'll most likely just give Swannie the captaincy now anyway!

This was also my understanding of things....Can anyone else confirm this is how it works?

Wanted to take advantage of the loophole but didn't have the players to do it unfortunately.

Would have locked in Buddy had I been able to but didn't want to take the risk of having him locked in as skipper.

Went for Swanny instead.

Not quite sure what you mean by the risk? Did you make Buddy VC?

At the moment I have Buddy VC and Swan C, but not the players to do it. The only way I'll be able to take Buddy's score is if one of my 13b players isn't named, in which case I'll definitely take the 130.

I'm taking the 130 of Buddy's even if one of my mids scores over that I won't be fussed as 130 is a solid Captain score

same here, i had buddy wood VC now i just hope that i have a non playing bench player next week, the only one i think i have is . Gysberts, that wouldnt have played i the first week :(.

but ive got a feeling that Gibbs will carve up today against Freeo with Bower back.!:thumbsu:. oh and sucked in to all those people who had Hodge VC!.

I prefer to be more conservative with my captain choices and pick a gun with a greater chance of putting in a big score (eg. Swan, Chapman, Bartel) rather than pick a more volatile scorer who could score 30 or 130 in any given week (eg. Buddy)

In my mind Buddy is a greater risk as C than one of those others that I mentioned when I have noone to fall back on with the loophole.

I do not have the appropriate bench players to take advantage of the loophole so decided not to risk it and name Buddy as C without a 2nd week gun to fall back on.

However, had I had the appropriate bench players I would have named Buddy VC and that bench player C with a gun coming off the bench to take advantage of the loophole, because in that scenario if Buddy pulled out a 30 rather than a 130 I'd have a 2nd chance to get a high C score.

My only bench player next week is Gysberts and he could easily be named so I didn't want to put the C on him and rely on him being dropped because that could quite easily have backfired on me.

With Swan/Chappy/Bartel/Gysberts playing next week, you could change captain so I don't get why you just didn't put Buddy VC just in case Gysberts does get dropped.

You don't need to make the bench player captain THIS WEEK to use the loophole. Just put one of those guns captain, Gysberts emg and wait to see what the VC scores; that's the whole point of the loophole.

Using Swan C as an example ...

If Gysberts gets dropped, you'd just sub him on for Swan (making him emg) and get Buddy's C score.

If Gysberts stays in, just stick with Swan C. If Gysberts is named emg, I guess that's too risky in case he's a late inclusion and you'd still stick with Swan C.

The only risk is if Swan misses and you cop a zero (having another reserve mid scoring). But you didn't mention that as the problem.

Who says its not worth taking a punt? My last 4 captains have been Gibbs vs WCE 166, Goddard vs Tigers 138, Stevie J vs Dons 125 and now Barlow vs Blues 121 (he was VC but will be made C).

Good point - that went right over my head.

Oh well - I'm happy to back one of Swan/Bartel/Montagna to get close to, if not beat Buddy's 130 so it is not the end of the world.

Can't decide between Swan and Bartel.

Bartel plays the Saints, who he usually does well against and in the wet is usually his type of game. However, it seems Bartel screws me over every time I make him captain so I'm not sure I've forgiven him.

Swan also traditionally does well against the Swans but I'm still concerned that they may not let him get a high score.

Oh well...whatever move I make will most likely be wrong. Made some bad captain choices recently.

Thinking as it is wet here is Melbourne, maybe Bartel?

Or should i stick with Swan
