Had to watch the replay last night, and did so knowing the score line in advance, so in my perspective:

- WD to Holman. Made substantial contribution for his limited time. Full game earned next week surely.
- WD to Menzel. I've been a staunch critic. Even though his effectiveness was limited, he won me with his endeavour and attitude. He was not ready to let a knee knock affect the team. He pushed himself to the limit until he knew it was time to sit it out. AND he contributed...3 of his 4 touches were contested. Kicked a goal. Laid tackles. Played on one leg for a half.
- The free kick against White for dragging Lynch out of his bully syndrome on young Buckley was atrocious. Funny how the ONLY guy big scary Lynch goes for on the ground is the littlest one. What a tool. Wonder how he feels about the K Hunt's revelations?
- Should have buried them by 50, but the pressure is what was most pleasing. Did not let them have any of it. Don't forget as deplorable as GC are they did frustrate Fremantle, and they tried to intimidate the Blues yesterday.
- Cripps is just a star. Even when he gets held and beaten up by Raines, he just keeps moving along, focused on the next contest. That's the sign of a good player.
- Wonder if Armfield has earned himself an extra year on the list (not sure if his contract is up). Barker would love his endeavour.
- Kreuzer is absolutely back, and getting back to his best. Very impactful. Worked well with the Wood combination yet again.
- Good to see Tuohy, Yarran and Bell step up in the absence of Gibbs and a well checked Cripps. Bell in particular stood up when it mattered.
- The three exciting goals from Tuohy, Yarran and Buckley are what get you out of your seat. Would have loved to have been there to see those sail through.

Going to be a LOT tougher the next month particularly with some ordinary DE amongst this lot, but they are now playing with aggression and passion, and that can sometimes get you the chocolates. WB are not in great form right now. St Kilda could have beaten them.

Can we have Everitt back....?

Huge win fellas! I was there and it was so sweet to watch. Graham a huge chance for the nomination this week, he's proving Mick wrong. Pretty psyched for the game next week , equally nervous.... you've got a red hot shot against us. Savor the B2B :D

How about a 2 for 1 deal.

Tutt & Jones for Boyd! :p

Interesting stat from Huddo that we're going around the boundary more under JB than we did under MM (though I'm sure we're getting more possessions in whole with JB).

Reckon you'll find the long kick has been done away with though and the uncontested possession count is way up as they're lowering the eyes and hitting up more targets in space.

There is still the issue of poor disposal and Barker has alluded to this at least twice in after match press conferences in the last few weeks. Barker will stick with the shorter kicking and it will work but come recruiting time a priority on good kicking skills and decision making are musts.

My thoughts on the recent turn of form since Barks has taken reigns:

Have to start with Cripps - loving this kid. Not sure the numbers he's putting up, but the increased pressure on and off the field that he's under - he's just soaking it up and brushing it aside... marks of a future captain without shadow of a doubt.

- Getting to see more of Graham and Bucks has been fantastic, both really building as the year progresses.
- Doc has been outstanding as usual and really coming into his own.
- Hendo starting to actually play football, working harder and showing real leadership at times. Please stay Hendo.
- Murph has lifted as a captain and the outside role has really sparked an upturn of form.
- White, Armfield are unsung heroes who I've been critical in the past but are turning up and doing their jobs (Army in particular) that are earning their spots despite obvious skill deficiencies.
- Game plan is so much better to watch, identified by greater endeavour/effort and will to tackle, win the hard ball and dish the handball out. Possessions and tackles have gone up astronomically since Mick left.

Good to see up going up - despite my initial thoughts, perhaps Barker could do enough to earn the HC job... still a long way to go, but good to see a few wins next to our name. Perhaps we won't finish bottom 4 after all.

Marc Murphy displayed real good leadership yesterday I thought, played a Barry Crocker in the first quarter, but really lifted after that especially in the third quarter, where the game was one and lost.

For our current list age demographic, I am more than happy for no 3 to be captain, I think he know finally what it takes to be a leader.

Probably benefits from there being no Judd. He now is THE leader and must act accordingly.

We desperately need an enforcer. Cripps, Buckley and Murphy are getting the tish kicked out of them and we have no one who can or will come in and stand up for them. White is ok, but Tuohy once upon a time took no crap but he seems to become a pacifist. Bell needs to stop trying to be arbitrator and get in there and start making his presence known as does the man mountain Levi. We are coming against Richmond, Hawthorn and the drug cheats, and they will smash first then apologise for it after the game. Next three weeks will give us a true indication of how much work we have in front of us.

What? In the last few weeks our boys have been playing tough and flying the flag...

They didn't take a backward step when Port got all antsy after the Gray injury, we were the ones tackling hard and giving it back to them when they were pushing and shoving.

Didn't take a backward step against GC and let their feelings be known after Cripps got a cheap shot. Was strange to see Bell almost reasoning with May, but there must have been a good reason because Bell is normally the first one to get in there and start shoving the opposition players. Maybe Bell and May are mates off the field.

Have thought this for some time now.

Reckon guys like Gibbs and Murphy deferred (for want of a better word) to Judd when he played. Reckon now that the Judd era is over we'll see better from Murphy and Gibbs in particular on a more regular basis as the team is now truly his/theirs so to speak.

This is the hardest we've played in years. :thumbsu:

They don't look shit scared to make a mistake any more, particularly Murphy.

Murphy played more on the wing yesterday, which was a good move.

Lets him use his strengths which is his ability to weave through traffic and set us up with good handballs and kicks.
He will always be more valuable in that position rather than the inside contested game he's had to play.

Due to his small size the MM game style with lots of bodies around the ball didn't suit Murphy. Last couple of year he has spent trying to draw to many frees. Has stopped doing this in the last few weeks.

LOL anyone seen the Armfield post-match interview?

At 1.42 Tuohy makes an appearance.

Murphy has had to play well above his weight for too many years to make up for the lack of skill from players like Carrazzo/Curnow...Murph is an AA quality outside runner and playmaker whose personal strengths have been sacrificed because of a poorly skilled midfield ( judd aside).

Cripps coming on as well as Kreuzer getting back on field as well as Graham being given a go (finally) has seen Barker able to release Murphy from the constraints of a hard inside on ball tag and he is now able to use his speed and movement to advantage. Murphy has now been given 'license' to go where he needs to go - when he needs to go...and we are seeing him gut run the length of the field and deliver damaging handballs and kicks to set up play. He is doing what we all hoped Yarran would be doing week in week out - but isn't or can't...

The side is 'carrying' experienced players like Carrazzo and Curnow for now- in the sense that they lack the disposal skills that separate the top on ballers from average players. Holman is already a better user of the ball by foot than Curnow or Carrazzo - but needs another year to put on some beef.

What Barker has been able to do is adjust player's mindset and give them jobs and roles that they are better able to perform - pretty much get the players running and tackling as a team and able to make up for clangers and the inevitable turnovers that come with a developing youngish side. However turnovers since Barker arrived see immediate defensive responses from players...so they aren't hurting as much as they used to...

We all have to be happy to see so many inside 50's achieved from HB run, through the center run, and some evolving ability to hit a target. Holman's two lace outs yesterday to leading forwards were outstanding. Buckley and Tuohey are now taking the game on with their pace..when we do use the boundary it is purposeful and quick..and far far less predictable

Barker has made Carlton far less predictable and much more difficult to stop.

Every time Murphy has ball in hand we go forward to advantage, every time Cripps gets the ball we go forward to advantage, every time bell gets th ball we go forward, Graham is a smart footballer who doesn't look slow and scared under Barker...hopefully Boekhurst can come on in the second half of the year...nd Smith gets another go under this Barker style footie..much mor carlton razz a ma tazz with a harder edge and o more malthouse crapola.

I'm enjoying watching the new kids change the dynamic of the way we play - it is fun again after too long.

Time enough to fuss about perfection - for now I'm loving the harder edge and the creative run Barker is developing.

Is it embarrassing for me to say I had to google 'WD" to find out what it means (....it's 'Well Done' isn't it ?)

You could see that in the game against Port. He literally played his way into form that game - started out missing handpasses and kicking oddly, but he pushed through, and was one of the best on ground.
