So happy for Dow! Written off by many far too soon. Keep it up young man. Needs to follow Walshy everywhere this off-season and feed off his example. Hopefully he can do a 2019 Weitering-esque resurrection.

Stocker is another who could be such a gun player in the mould of a Hodge. His tenacity, aggression and courage is something we need plenty more of. Loved him crunching Fyfe and backing into Rory Lobb to spoil.

Walsh and Weiters are just stars but we all knew that already. How good can they become is the only question.

Even Harry with another 3-goal game despite being mostly blanketed, held and double-teamed. Amazing growth from the big man this year!

We have fantastic youth. We just need to get the right structures and mentality in place.

Weitering is the best defender in the comp I don’t care what people say. Moore and Andrews both get better stats but both get goals kicked on them. Weiters does a moderation of both and is a leader. Love him and can’t wait to see how his 300+ game career goes

Some may think Dow went quite in the second and third due to lack of tank, I wonder if it was due to Freo putting more effort into closing him down? Perhaps it took him a bit if effort to shake someone playing closer on him. Would be interesting to know from those rewatching the game what they notice about his second and third quarters, why his output slowed. Or maybe TDk targeted Ed or Cripps more?

Freo’s complete domination in the centre square and around the stoppages during the 2nd & 3rd qtrs as well as bottling us up in general play when we had the ball, played a big part with most of our midfielders having much less impact on the game...

loved cripps leadership last night, despite a few errors.

was clearly in pain but (again) gritted his teeth and played through it. still played a physical game, presented aerially and tried to bring teammates into it. provided important blocks in the last when he was no chance to get it again.

now that he's all signed up i reckon we make him sole captain next year.

Really liked the mood of the team last night. They were determined, desperate and committed.

That goes a long way to winning and/or being competitive.

Also goes to show what happens when our 2nd tier players have good games - Dow, Kennedy, Silvagni & Newman had their best games for the year and look what happens.

This is Paddy Dow 2 1/2 years ago playing full time mid in an AFL team.

He was an 18 year old kid getting mauled by senior experienced big-bodied AFL mids.

You have to remember when he stepped out last night that he’s still only 21 years old.

Do you think, and applying a bit of context to his comment, that he meant he can now have his body stand up to a greater amount of AFL training load?

Don’t you think that he was implying that as his body matures he can now train at a greater intensity for longer periods?

He‘s still probably 2 to 3 years away (23/24) from being fully mature from an AFL “body” perspective.

Seeing what he did last night in the first quarter and projecting that forward to when both these things merge, we should be licking our lips with excitement.

He‘s going to make a lot of people look silly on reflection is Paddy.

And on that point, Russell has been working with babies the past couple of years.

Go and have a look at the nucleus of the Hawks premiership midfields, Lewis, Hodge, Mithcell, Sewell etc. they all blossomed after 4 to 5 years into their careers. When their bodies were capable of withstanding the day to day rigour of training and playing AFL footy.

Russell knows what he is doing, just need a little patience for the cake to bake.

I believe in him. Enormously. People talk a lot about culture at the club and bag Teague. Bag the coaches. They def have their share of responsibility to take for this year. So do individual players. The fact guys like MCG and Williams turn up out of shape shits me to tears. The fact Paddy Dow esrly this year was happy to ‘socialise’ like he did when he should be recovering and getting up to train disappoints me. He just wasn’t (and isn’t) at the fitness level he needs to be.

NO he doesn’t have to do it. He doesn’t have to choose to be his best. But apparnelty he has felt hard done by.

My prefernce as a fan is that Carlton players feel hard done by when they’ve given it their all. Not before then.

Psddy could be absolutely anyhting but his fitness is still a mile off. He’s playing 1.5 quarters a week right now then hitting the wall. He DOES look a little fitter and so maybe the penny has dropped. And if it has, awesome.

If he drops off a bit and is dumped from the side I hope those around him give him home truths. Not bag the coach for lack of opportunities.

Paddy Dow will get every chnace he deserves. He is going to have to really lift his fitness. He’s def not there yet. Don’t declare victory yet Paddy. Not at all. Wake up. Run. Trainer harder than last time. Repeat.

I say this because I believe in him. Not because I want to bag him. I think his hands below his knees combined with his power are top 1 percent in the afl. He could be a reason we win a flag.

He could also become an in and out player who gets nowhere. It’s up to Paddy.

Im cheering for him. I’m also allowed to be disappointed.

Just watched the replay, amazing last quarter to keep them goalless when they had all the momentum coming in.

I thought Newnes had a huge game, made some big tackles and he competed as hard as anyone out there.

Take his mongrel and then look at someone like Setterfield (I know he didn’t play) or sadly Murphy now. I’d take a team of Stockers over those 2.

It's his endeavour, his mongrel, his intent... he always flies the flag... leadership qualities.
