How are the defensive structures poor? Not what I saw. Weiters, Jones covering everything, Newman and Saad swooping and Plowman, Stocker completely accountable. We play 1 v 1 because Teague trusts his players. Throw back a spare when needed. 1 v 1 suits the quick rebounding style Teague wants to play and it is bearing fruit as the bodies mature and tanks develop.

Not the back line... defensive structures includes set ups all over the ground.

The back six/seven keep saving our bacon.

Also, last week we were forced to use JSOS and Cripps in the ruck more which messes our structure. Darcy might have monstered them.

Finding a new ruck support once Cas retires is a priority...not sure playing both tdk and pitto works and I'm not confident mckay is up to it despite his height.

Pitto combo does not work, I reckon Pitto has been very ordinary this season as our main ruck (despite some improvement in his around the ground stuff).

Backup but I’d been moving him on if any takers & trying to cover the ruck department with another solid citizen with some more mobility/dual KPP.

Mirkov will be occupying the development role, if not injured.

Quiet shout-out to Newnes as well. Really just a solid professional. Sticks tackles, runs both ways and keeps pushing to the end.

This. Keep saying it and plenty scoff. Newnes has been excellent the last fortnight and critical to us playing well.

That’s the thing, right? He’s shown what he’s capable of and it’s obvious there is so much more potential and improvement left in him. Just exciting to see him build.

Fingers crossed...darcy parish and dom sheed are two mids that come to mind who were high draft picks but took about 5 years to come good. Hoping dow follows a similar path.

A great win against a quality, physical opposition who were motivated. Well done blues and especially
Dow, Silvagni, kennedy, stocker
Jones & SPS Casboult were the only disappointments.
Ummm
Jones was not having his best game this time
Dow got 90 percent of his stats first half...goes from A grade plus to Vfl grade because he doesnt have a tank...can be dangerous actually when this has consistently happened..........get him jogging 50 kms a week so he can run out games :thumbsu:
Samo was ok second half.....he still hasnt taken the game on though, just plays safety first with short passes etc,no dirty stuff ?
Cas has had a ragged year ,has many issues at this stage
Half of the comp would have taken us through the second half.....
not bad but still not deserving of finals in 2021......maybe mr CC?

Great win Baggers! Freo were coming hard but we dug deep, stuck to our guns and got the win!

We shouldn’t underestimate the last two weeks. Both Adelaide and Freo have been in good form and given the pressure that’s on our club at present, it has been great to see our boys playing with heart and confidence again.

Big game this week against a genuine flag favourite. Let’s go Baggers!!!

Easily the biggest positive this season is the growth of some of our younger players.

McKay and Stocker with breakout years. Dow starting to put it together. Found a few forwards in Owies and Fogarty. Would love to see more from SPS to round it out.
Did anyone else see Weitering the robot blow a fuse on the 3/4 time siren? Completely warranted and literally first time I've ever seen him show emotion. He may be due for a service and oil change.
yes i liked seeing that

Oh and to all the Paddy Dow doubters, I’m so glad he’s starting to show why we took him at pick 3. It’s amazing what some consistent football does for one’s confidence

Controlled the ball at crucial times. And that sublime 45 kick to Fogerty in the 2nd that lead to Dow's goal.
Samo had some great moments as we know
its a tricky one though where to use him,and to get him grunt running or even attacking the game
He doesnt have a huge tank for prolific running,eg Saad off HB has a tank who can and wants to run all of the time
He is not quick/big/powerful enough for inside mid role
He is not a prolific mark as a small forward
He doesnt have the tank for a winger,he isnt a long kick of the footy

He qualities are though-
he has masterful placement and tactical footy mind distributing the ball at precision
masterful ball skills...presents well and has great temperament

As Dow he needs to work on his tank, plus bulk up further becoming a longer kick and become aggressive in games looking probably a mid outside/in role rotating through either HB or a wing or even a forward flank as required ..

can just tell Samo has the goods just have to get him working
