I am critical of our defensive setup apart from Jones on Buddy, matchups were all wrong. Losing McGovern mid game after Charlie being out hurt

Fisher should be playing a Gresham type role, not as the first outlet

Coaching has nothing to do with the poor "disposal young players" we have, has more to do with time and experience and somewhat of recruiting

Would rather we just go and get Gresham. He is OOC this year.

Did you say Lobbe was decent? Wow. How on Earth did we watch the same game.

Polson was horrendous and that is Polson.
LOB just not AFL ready. Needs another 2 years. Gibbons not good enough.

Should be easy decision for next week.

Out: Lobbe, Polson, Gibbons, LOB
In: Kreuzer, Kennedy, JSOS and lets give Stocker a go.

If I had a spare $50 I'd put it on those changes.

Gibbons out only for mine. Its not the players.

LOB stays and plays the pure wingman.

He won't make one iota of difference when we move the ball worse than VAFA team.
Thought about this during todays game, and surmised that reason we moved it like we did was absence of players presenting upfield in advantages positioning. Consequently, i didn't think it was a skill issue as much as a workrate or natural smarts issue.

I'd argue that trying to leave the aggregate running requirements to too few is a tactical error.
I'm not sure it's tactical. We have been up there with the highest distance covered of all teams so far this year, but I think a lot of that is unproductive running. Not being able to bring the ball back through the middle to anyone who has found space is likely a symptom of that. The question is why we have that occur, and my gut says it's a lack of hardened bodies with AFL experience in the middle. The guys we want to see receive the ball like that are Murphy (but he's seemingly not playing that role to protect the body), SPS, Dow, Walsh, LOB, Fisher etc. They are all very raw still.

If any of the Plowman supporters are decent at editing video footage, please put together a package to convince me of his place in the side. I don’t care for stats. I see him get beaten easily week on week (and have for seasons). I don’t understand his selection (or the fan support for it) when his position should, for balance, be filled by someone who can actually tackle, run and dispose. He is a liability.
Marchbank is the third tall. The other three should be actual effective smalls. He exists in no-mans land.

That’s exactly what Tigirls supporters where saying the year before they won the flag and how long was Dimma the coach at that stage?

There is a world of difference between where the tigers were at and where we are at.

Tiggers kept finishing just out of the 8 year after year meaning they at least were close enough.
We keep finding ourselves bottom of the ladder year after year, so yeah don’t compare us to the tigers, we have so much father to climb and we haven’t even accomplished our first little step up the ladder yet.

I’ll have to go back and read poster thoughts on the game. I know some people will be spitting chips as a result of what unfolded at today’s game. I know some will try to discuss it in as calm a voice as possible.

The feeling of frustration will run deep. Our expectations were high. My expectations were commensurate. It was another winnable game however the effort required to win is not across the team. The gap between our good players and our poor players was a chasm today. Yet deep into the game the Swans looked shaky and, despite desperate attempts, we sprayed our efforts for goal. The game was killed off by Heeney, in circumstances, which caused me apoplexy. Not an unusual feeling concerning some of the decisions I saw today but I digress.

My brief summation of the game.

Our first quarter was good. We were direct and kicked goals. The misses by Dow and McKay denied us the opportunity to win the quarter.

The Swans didn’t want a shootout and decided to play possession footy in the second quarter. I thought we went defensive and invited the pressure. The modern game loves an extra defender. I don’t. On occasions we worked it into our forward half where the Swans had an extra player. It wasn’t surprising to see the ball rebound into their forward half quickly. It was bitter sweet to see our only goal of the quarter kicked late by Mitch McGovern (candidate for GOTY) who had been sacrificed to play the seventh defender role.

The third quarter was more of the same. We couldn’t win the ball to create the pressure required to get back in the game. The Swans put the boa constrictor squeeze on us and stretched the lead to five goals. To make matters worse McGovern was injured and would sit out the remainder of the game. Then late in the quarter two sensational kicks by the much maligned Murphy changed the course of the game. One from deep went straight up the guts resulted in a goal. The next one was a beautifully caressed kick to a McKay lead. Harry goaled on the siren. Game on.

The last quarter saw us put extreme pressure on the Swans and they got wobbly. Goals to Ed Curnow and Zac Fisher gave us hope. Then a series of rushed shots at goal (except for Cas who rattled the woodwork) missed. I think it was 10.14 to 13.9 before Heeney’s goal ended the contest.

I must admit I was annoyed as I left the ground. I wanted to talk about the umpiring. Eventually my son calmed me and we discussed how we played, the good players and the poor players. In the end we had too many poor players. In the back half. In the forward half. Most of them were our small to medium sized players who couldn’t impact the game.
