This is the stats for our tall backs today... Uninformed posters and criticising Plowman, name a more iconic duo.

But go on, keep saying Plowan's the problem....

Oh, and while we're on the subject of Plowman v Marchbank, you do understand that they don't play the same role in the team, right?
Plowman's a small-medium height shutdown run with player.
Marchbank's a small-tall height intercept marking who drives out of defence.
You don't just substitute one for the other.
Very aware of that BOB but you can’t play those 4 in the backline and I’m not saying he was the reason for the loss.IMO the game has passed him by.Jones was very good today,Weitering did his job,Marchbank looked ok considering he was out for so long.

We’ve improved! We are the 18th best team in the league, but the margin to 17th is as close as it’s been in a while.

This is true.
But, also we have forgotten how to win.
It is so frustrating.
We better be a beast of a team for a decade plus once we come good, because we have done it the flamin' hard way (full rebuild).

Quite a bit of heat on Polson and Gibbons, which is warranted, but Plowman was appalling and despite being billed as this ultra reliable, dour defender, he’s a genuine liability at times. He also proves no meaningful rebound out of defence - almost exclusively takes the safe option every time. It never surprises me to see his DE in the green, he’s so ineffectual. Had to have a giggle when Papley beat him in a marking contest.

And Heeney in the last, a ******* kid out smarted and out muscled him.
Because no one ever makes tired mistakes. Did it escape you that Thomas, Simpson, Marchbank and Weitering were also exhausted?

Meanwhile, Newman was tottering around giving the ball back 11 times. I wonder if there's a connection...

See above

Him and Murphy should be swapped. Murphy needs to play in the forward 50, Gibbons in the midfield rotation. Been saying it for three weeks.
Gibbons work rate isn't good enough to be deployed in any other way right now. He needs to go back to the VFL and tailor his body to be more mobile. This, and that he can't kick more than 40 metres, are why he hadn't been picked up to this point.

That we signed him at all has a few shades of a suburban 3rd string club, and then there's Cottrell...

bolton instructs them to play that way by bringing casboult in the team. bombing it on his head to take a contested mark/crash a pack is the only way casboult can contribute. if we don't do that with him then we play with 17 men on the field.

bolton tried to do the best with the team that he had, but the team that he selected the wrong team in the first place IMO
To be fair, Levi showed quite clearly on a number of occasions in the second half that when afforded McGovern's role in the structure, he could do a lot more than bash and crash. He's gone and gotten himself pretty fit, but that doesn't fix his kicking action and composure.

Lobbe was fortunate today, that some of his ineffective CS taps fell to Cripps and co.; not by design. Phillips has been reasonably good in CS, and better around the ground than Lobbe was today. We have no choice but to have good insurance for MK; he's injury prone, and its reasonable to anticipate that this wont diminish given his age.
it's fair to say that today we missed Phillips.
Mate, you couldn't troll any harder if you tried.

Do what Phillips can't, and jog on.

JSOS now has a huge opportunity to make that forward line his.

If Kennedy doesn’t play next week there’s something wrong somewhere.

I could drop 5 players easily. Maybe more.

Lobbe for Krooz / Gibbons for Kennedy / JSOS for Polson. I’d certainly consider Paddy Kerr for McGovern.

Christ I miss Cuners...

Id agree with that

In Rounds 2 and 3 last year we similarly outscored the opposition in the final quarter after being behind, so you're reaching with this claim. Blowouts are often the culmination of not getting reward for effort, no guarantee we are past that stage.

That's incorrect, we were beaten by 34 points by GC (3 goals each in the last qtr while they outscored us by a goal in the 3rd) in round 2 and 24 by the Pies (we outscored the Pies by a goal in the 2nd half)

There actually were some good signs from this game, but it really looks as though the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.
Some players (senior or junior) that don't pull their weight will just have to go. Just has to be done.

The effort was mostly there today, but we looked so amateur in game-play and execution.
Swans and particularly good but they are methodical. We just don't or can't execute any method at all right now and the worst part is that if the effort drops...and it may with a young squad.... the scores may start widening to more than just the 20 points.

Will help to get some players back though. Can't hurt..........can it?

Well thank God he did play Casboult. Otherwise Harry would have been stretchered off at 3 quarter time.
Absolutely bashed harry the swans did and the umps allowed. Levi was not our worst, in fact he did his job.
when cripps lowered his eyes and hit up a player we looked good but he did not do that all day.
to often our mids just hacked it forward. Whereas the swans controlled the ball much better and hit their players.

I have already analyzed the situation but you chose to ignore it and chose to play it personal.

We are not spreading and using the ball - we won the stoppages and clearances (so young bodies is not an excuse) and yet players are stationary to instructions and not spreading. How many times does it need to be explained to you before you get it?

Not playing the man at all, fact is you have been on the Bolton agenda for 18 months, remember "I fear for the indoctrination"?

Young, inexperienced bodies not being able to hold their ground further up the chain, not to mention our diabolic disposal by foot, tell me how that is Bolton's fault?

Bag him all you like, but there will continue to be inconsistencies, until these guys gain experience as a group, which comes from continuity

This.
Up to now it’s been ok (sort of), because we were getting players together. Although it’s still early days expectations are much higher.
Thought we’d win today so it hurts more
In my opinion thats the problem. I certainly didnt think we would. I hoped we would. But reality said we will push them and fall short. And thats exactly what happened. They are still a hard team and well drilled. We have to jump a lot further than just bringing in raw talent to beat that and become so confident at this stage.
Now that doesnt mean I like it for one second don't get me wrong. I want to pull a tree out of the ground with my bare hands. But it keeps it sensible. Its still another preseason and trades to get to that think we will win space.

Excuses are over - I am bagging him because he is no good.

once mcgovern went down and levi had to stay closer to goal, that's when we started lowering our eyes and hitting targets rather than just bombing it long down the line.

levi can play as a stay at home forward in a 2 tall set up, but he can't kick so those contested marks go to waste (this shouldn't be news to anyone).

to play 3 talls they all need to be mobile because they can't all stay at home so they invariably take turns playing a little further up the ground. levi doesn't have the mobility or the versatility in his game to slot into a 3 tall set up. bolton believing that he could just swap him with charlie was a huge mistake.

There was a few minutes there in the third I thought the flood gates would open more so for the swans and they would romp to a ten goal + win...it had that feeling, but it didn’t happen.
Oh well...
If only we didn’t hit the post so many times!
I saw positives.
Negatives can be worked on.
It’s obvious once things click we’ll be fine. 4 quarter efforts will eventuate.
Stick fat...again.

The young mids haven’t found their groove yet, apart from Walsh, and the disposal out of defence is problematic when the ball is not in the hands of the good ball users.

That midfield is way to young, things improved when Ed spent more time there (coaching move). Our disposal across the park was poor, even from mature players

No, we gave up the short kick to have another number down the line for the long kick. Meaning that they could play a lot of uncontested chip kick football.

We attempted to play chip kick football but were manned up for much of the game and the Swan's pressure combined with our poor disposal created situations where it was easier to bomb it down the line and risk a turn over or just turn it over in the contest.

It was a good performance from the Swans against a very young midfield.

The likes of Dow and Walsh just couldn't handle the pressure, but they'll learn from it and gradually that panic will disappear and we'll get better ball movement.

I don’t understand how kicking long down the line is a viable game plan even if you have any extra number at the contest.
Our players are lazy, they don’t even attempt to direct the long kick to the advantage of our tall, and then when we lose position
Yep.

This continues to be a glaringly obvious problem with this team. We are far too tall for the modern game up forward.

With having 3 tall fowards in the team we need to have one running out ghe goal square at all times, either providing a lead or attacking the ball head on.
By insisting on kicking long down the contest, we effectively force our forwards up the ground and away from goal to provide the contest further down the ground, instead of finding the shorter option with link up play and letting our forwards do their thing close to goal.

Again, that is a simplistic, poor opinion, purely based on win/loss rather than progression.

Again - personal attacks without an ability to analyze the game appropriately.

Didnt you say Bailey Smith is a better player than Sam Walsh more or less tells a tale on reading the situation.

LOB being hard done by. Wasn't the best game but the kid is far from a bust, 2nd year player who showed a lot in his first year. Was far from the worst on ground today. Will get better. Looking forward to the next 10+ years of him.
not LOBs fault at all. we had no interest/no ability in getting the ball to the outside.
