Why does the rest of our team play like absolute sh*t whenever Martin kills it?

Too many passengers tonight.

Some good signs from Setters and Philp.

Pretty disappointed by our physicality. We drop marks we should take and miss targets we’d normally hit because were worried about getting hit.

Martin was outstanding and clearly our best. Didn’t see a lot of Newnes/Murphy but given they spent most of the game on the wings at least one deserves credit for negating Hill.

Cuners needs to tidy his kicking inside 50 in a hurry, it was his only blemish last week, this week when he doesn’t get much of it he can’t afford to burn it.

Willo probably had his worst game so far, Harry looked miles off it, Simmo (as much as I love him) had a bit of a mare.

I’m sure there are some positives to take out of the game but they’re hard to see this soon after a disappointing performance at first glance. Credit to St Kilda who went much harder than us for 4 quarters.

ps: I don’t think the umpires did us any favours at all tonight, but if anyone accuses them of bias/cheating expect my wrath...

Scoreline flatters us. We can talk about the umpires all night (maybe with some justification) but that’s not the reason we lost. Our performance was poor; diabolical actually. Simple as that.

Yes, the saints are a finals team and the best we have played
Our club does not understand the level of hardness required to even be a top 8 side.
Sure we lack a midfield without Cripps but it is the lack of physicality in executing all the defensive elements of the game that makes us a 9 to 18th side. Added to that, goal kicking accuracy is optional and backline howlers mandatory
The best player in the side is Martin and I still laugh, when Cripps is rated as a carlton top 10.
Let's hope we can win 8 for the season which is a pass mark

The pressure wasn’t there from the get go. But worse than that Ratten’s decision to tag Doc caused us to crumble in a heap. Did we not know that was going happen? Did we not plan for it?

Liked Philp’s last quarter. Jack Martin was terrific. Good that Crippa fought his way back into the game. But the tall forwards were dysfunctional and we didn’t put on the required pressure to nullify their running game.

I’d drop Newnes and Philp for Fish and JSOS. Philp has had a taste of it and showed signs and Newnes, well he’s not much of a player and last man in defence work didn’t thrill me.

I’d like to play LOB as well, maybe instead of JSOS, but we really miss Jack’s passion when he’s not playing. I’d even consider dropping SPS for LOB.

Oh, and Plow was one of our best down back. Had a much better game than Jones and Weiter-bot. I’m not a Plow “stan”, but if you’re calling for him to be dropped you clearly just hate the bloke.

TDK needs to be fast tracked to play on rucks with a big leap, we need to develop someone other than Doc that can set us up coming out cause Simmo is not up to it anymore and Doc being down killed our whole game.

Get ready for all the blow hards starting the failed rebuild, sack the coach, SOS ****ed up the drafting etc etc etc so I’ll come back in a couple of days when the tossers are gone.

Martin, Jones, Plough, Doch , Cripps, Newnes, and a few others hold your heads up. Needed a few others to step up when Cripps was getting scragged, can’t believe he only got one free kick. Doch found the ball when moved onto wing. Good work Philps, got it a bit more and seems happy to take the game on and love his multiple efforts.

Should have lost by 10 goals the way we were playing in the first half, happy to see us play it til the end. Could have almost snatched it if we kicked straight, but wouldn’t really have deserved it. Just too many down on the night.
Like to see Kennedy in next week to help Cripps out.

I actually think St Kilda are a fairly decent team. Maybe not top 4 but should be top 8. Dominated us when it mattered. We didn't help ourselves with poor skills and pressure.

Positives would be Setters kicking a couple snags, Philp showing some good endeavour, Martin is a gun and Jones redeemed his shockers.

Lots of negatives, not really worth listing them all but our first quarters really need addressing. And our tackling.

Personally, I think Simpson should give it away at the end of the year. Time to let Stocker or whoever have a good run at it.

McKay another stinker. We really need Charlie back.
