Aish was outstanding, still trying to equate him to another footballer, just not sure who yet.!

For mine he reminds me of bartell. I think it is his strong marking.

Lots to like about the performances of some of the young guys tonight. Aish, Taylor, Gardiner, Robertson were particularly impressive. Really liked Raines and Adcock tonight as well 100% effort. I think Rocky might have been tagged tonight. (Well obviously) Unusually quiet game for him.

not sure of his numbers but rocky was appeared quiter then usuall, BUT the good thing was others stood up like Lester, redo, robbo its a good sign

Mayes off HB was a interesting one, His great ball use was welcomed coming out of defence, be interesting to see if lepa persists with it, Mayes, hanley and cutler rebounding off half back could provide some real drive forward

someone start a thread on the main board regarding the go home 5 and our replacements... surely we have came out on top by a fair margin now? Polec is the only real loss and even then he had questionable work ethic. We have drafted true footballers for sure. Every single one makes me feel comfortable when they have the ball in their hands, every single one will not take a backwards step and every single one wants to be a Lion!

GO LIONS!

Thank god ray choked on that kick.

Negatives:
McGuane - the year might be a write-off if he can't get that knee right
Again letting their key midfielders get way too much of the footy.
Midfield going missing in the last quarter
Rocky struggling with a tag

Positives:
Goal kickers - very nice spread
Young blokes stepping up
Backline finding its form and working as a unit
West - great game in the ruck
The 5 ins all showed something

If you play the stupid fantasy football comps you'd be picking the best mid in the team that plays us every week as your captain. We just can't stop these best players (Hayes and Montagna today) from getting off the chain.

Not to mention Steven. He must've thought all his Christmases had come at once in that second half. No one went near him on the outside of the contest. Reminded me a lot of Johnson in round 2.

We have problems with our set up at stoppages.

Sheesh that was a nerve racking win, ZoBlitz's coffee table was about to go through the TV and I was gonna go on the lam.

It wasn't pretty in the end, but a win is a win.
Aish was everywhere in the 2nd half. Really stood up when most of our midfield went missing.

Aish is one of the best users of the ball running at above 75% DE consistently. Also the kid knows how to take a mark my god a great contested one at that

Great gutsy win by the lads. Did what we needed to do and jump out of the gate. The experienced players stood up - they were overdue. Patfull was back to his best. Adcock was captain fantastic. Browny inspirational as always. Impressed by Trent West efforts tonight.

The win was the most satisfying aspect of tonight but a very close second was the performances of our youngsters. When times are tough you really do hold out hope for the future and the light at the end of the tunnel and their is no doubt we have got some kids who can take this club places going forward. Aish was superb and his second half was outstanding. Fantastic mark for a kid his size as well. Lewis Taylor looks all class and takes the game on and his speed is something we desperately need. Cutler is smooth and makes good decisions and Robbo is just 100% give it all head down and tear in. He is the kind of player every side needs. Does the grunt work in packs and can also break away from packs with his speed. Certainly looks like a great pick from the draft. Gardiner is going to be a fantastic defender for years to come. Reads the play well.

Special mention to the little champs Zorko and Green who were fantastic and their decision making was critical at times. Two of most important players. And finally for me Jack Redden was our best tonight. Possibly the best game he has played for the club. Won the ball - tackled his heart out as usual and kicked a couple important goals.

WELL DONE BOYS AND WELL DONE LEPPA.

LIONS!!

Stuck at work and had to watch on my cracked screen phone. Great game, even if we had to hold on against the umpires desperate desire for the saints to win the New Zealand rights. Really excited to see Aish strut his stuff, and Robbo/Taylor/Gardiner...this draft could be out best yet.

what a great trade period we had last year
Docherty for Cutler (win)
Yeo for Taylor (win)
Polec for Robertson and Gardiner (win)
Longer for McStay (can't tell yet)
Karnezis for Paine (can't tell yet)

plus we picked up Aish for a bargain

Interesting to hear leppa say the team won't consist of one dimensional players, and that he was happy that Raines at the age of 27 had embraced the challenge of working on the attacking side of his game, and that he would be hard to kick out of the team if he continues to play well.

Just think we all sort of assumed leppa just didn't rate Raines, when in fact he was working on different elements of his game. Hopefully he goes on and has a good year.

I think one player who deserves everyone's recognition is Andrew Raines. I've never really been a fan of raines, his goals genuinely seem flukey his kicking skills aren't elite and I felt that he'd struggle to get out of the Lions reserves. But well done to him, he demanded to be picked for the senior team due to his great form in reserves and I think this was his best performance by far for the Brisbane Lions and one that will surely see him get more chances in 2014. Well, done Andrew Raines.

and anyone seen leppas press conference yet? I can't find it anywhere

On the AFL site now.

Leppa's comments about Raines were really interesting - he was set the challenge to be more than a one dimensional player and starting to show that he can do it. Leppa gave him some nice praise I thought.

No injuries is another win too!

Anyone got footage of the scuffle robbo had near the interchange in second quarter? Would like to see it as it wasn't showed on tv

It is a credit to him as a professional footballer, he reinvented himself I to a hard nosed defensive mid tagger, and has to now do it all over again into an attacking outside winger. Kudos to him for his dedication and professionalism.
