Bolts was outcoached badly today. How anyone could be at the ground and come away from that thinking the coaching was anything other than abysmal, I will never know. Boggles the mind.
Fellow called Bruce Doull had nice moments. Lots of those in the reserves and in and out of the seniors the first couple of years. IT JUST TAKES TIME. And every talent has a unique time.Note the words you use to describe L'OB- "nice" moments. That encapsulates the Carlton problem -we are too nice and compromising. KENNEDY IS NOT A NICE FOOTBALLER. SETTERFIELD IS NOT A NICE FOOTBALLER- THERE ARE YOUR Replacements, who by the way are contested ball winners
People were writing Jack off preseason...its funny.
It is with complete respect to Murph that I write this. History will record him as a Captain of our great club during a very dark time, buts lets remember he was a number 1 pick, played beside two number 1 picks in Gibbs, and Kruezer, and also alongside that other guy, Chris Judd, who went alright too. It wasn't all that bad a midfield. People will, however, remember his career as a whole. That includes now, and how he plays out his career. If his legacy matters to him, and to the club, i don't think dropping him to the 2's is going to be wise, or useful. What will it actually achieve. If his body is banged up, like we all believe, could we possibly imagine how frustrating it must be for him to not be able to play the way he wants? Taking a couple of weeks off for management won't help either. I'm not sure what is left to do but to respect his service to our great club over such a low point in our history. You know that stuff is going to happen. But not because of reasons like you and others come up with. It will simply be natural attrition and development that sees Murphs time up. History will record him as one of our best players plagued by injury from all the times he did put his body on the line and unfortunate to play in a very poor era for our club. No-one will call him soft in ten years time. Nor should they now.
That's your interpretation. Never heard the club say that at all. Not even close
My take is they wanted Stocker and at that pick was a bargain.
Yes but until you drop L'OB we are sending him the message that his output is acceptable
I agree, perhaps they want to build his defensive side, as most kids at junior level don't play negating roles
they don't need to specifically say it. That's the only thing it can mean, unless they think he is worth pick 1
They would have internally been expecting us to finish 10-14, or they wouldn't have done the deal! Stocker is not the equivalent of a Rozee or a Walsh
Tough day playing in our backline but didn't shirk any issues. Did a couple of nice things
2020
Jesus.End of next year.
Don't agree. I don't see it that way at all
mate, its pretty clear. either they expected us to finish 10-14 internally, or they are negligent. Why else would you swap picks?
To get a player you rated extremely highly whilst keeping a first round pick. That's my take
Jack brings good effort and plays with heart which is more than you can say about 15 others including an ex captain but he’s far from a bona fide AFL first 22 player, but he’s getting there. Kicking set shots would be a good place to focus on for improvement. Not making the distance from 45m out on fresh legs 1 minute into the game is not good enough.Yes indeed . But that didnt stop quite a few around here having him marked as a fail.
Stephenson, from the same draft, is skinnier than him, and does alright.
yes! if you were thinking you were swapping pick 10 for 12 etc. Not pick 1 for pick 10
I tend to agree with this. My take is the thought process would have been we fairly confident that we’re going to climb the ladder so best case we make out like bandits. Worse case we get a highly rated player and another first round draft pick albeit losing out on pick 1 or 2. Can we live with the worst case scenario? Yep, let’s do it then. A calculated risk.To get a player you rated extremely highly whilst keeping a first round pick. That's my take
Goes real well, but is a forward in a strong, experienced side and really doesn't have a defensive side
How do you think he would go as a defensive wingman in our side
Or how would Lochie go playing for the Pies[/QUOTE]
Big issue with all our young players. Lack of quality mature support
Your opinion, not mine. Move on
...
So, let me see if I understand you correctly. You think - after a day like today, in which we were crying out for on ground leadership - you wanted to trade out what little quality leadership we have, to bring in more kids?

Finally something I agree with.Williamson absLOB should never have been selected. Kennedy and Setterfield needed to come into today's side.
Yes he is getting there. That is it exactly. We have a raft of young fellas getting there. Its hard to be patient but it's the harsh reality of things.Jack brings good effort and plays with heart which is more than you can say about 15 others including an ex captain but he’s far from a bona fide AFL first 22 player, but he’s getting there.
