Boots - should never be sub again. didn't do anything wrong - I just think the sub needs to be able to make more of an impact/add more run.!

Mostly a fair summary, but I find this an interesting one given that our backline seemed more settled once he was a part of it. I thought there were quite a few important spoils by Bootsma in the second half.

perhaps if posters' looked past the unrealistic expectation that we should be smashing teams week in week out

Maybe not week in week out, but tonight we won by 1.7, last week we won by 2.8, and the week before we didn't rock up till 3/4 time, and lost by 9 points (when we again had more scoring shots).

I don't think it's unreasonable for supporters to think these games should be easy wins

Soooo, judging by the stats and score worm, we blew a pretty big lead, then continually kicked points when the game was in the balance.

Should I watch this replay, or will I just end up pulling my hair out and crying?

Was one of those games where we managed to win by basically kicking a overwhelming amount of points that managed to bury the opposition just by the sheer amount of them.

Boots fitted right in because Whitey was subbed out. What happens if we need more run? A mid goes down? A small forward?

I just feel that a sub needs to be someone that is more flexible. Imagine if Brock had been concussed before Whitey was subbed? Boots coming on wouldn't be of much help and it would require a massive re-arranging of the team to fill the midfield rotations.

However, that by no means plays down Boots' contributions when he came on.

How can you say 37 points early in the second may have iced the game if 32 points did not? Not sure I agree with your call about the handball being the percentage play either. I'd have to re-watch, but although Lucas was alone for quite a while it looked as though a player was converging on Lucas by the time Bell received the ball. He took a shot, in the clear, 20-25 out on a slight angle when we're 31 points up - that's not low percentage play.

That miss had nothing to do with us falling to pieces in the second quarter.

Had everything to do with it. It should have been a goal, whether he did the team thing and passed to Sugar, or kicked it himself. It would have finished the game. You could tell by watching it. Instead, Brisbane got let off, and realised it was now or never, and momentum shifted.

What hurt was that instead of being 37 points up, shortly afterwards we were only 26 points up. The psychological effect of having a 7 goal lead instead of a 5 goal lead is quite significant. Particularly when you have the momentum in the game.

Look beyond the margin - neither Port or Lions looked like they were going to win after half time. To me that is an easy win.

Actually, I think that Boots makes an almost one-for-one swap with Walker (after a fashion ... I'm not saying he's as good) and Walker makes for an adequate replacement either in the middle or up forward.

Also the psychological lift the opposition get when you fluff a regulation easy goal, they start to believe selfishness and lairising has crept into the team and they generally thrive on this and use it as motivation to keep an appetite for the contest once the momentum has swung.

Only watch the 2nd quarter, some belting highlights in there:thumbsu:

Come on, seriously? We had all the momentum, were 32 points up and Bell's miss simply put the ball in their hands at the opposite end of the ground to their goals.

If one opposition goal at that point is going to have such a psychological effect that the team then concedes another 5 because of it, well then we have much greater concerns than Bell's miss.

So why didn't we lose the game? We missed plenty of regulation goals after half time that should have motivated them to victory...

You have much to learn about football
