Review Rd 9: Freo keep rolling against the Swans

Josh played a really solid game today.
And how ******* big is he šŸ˜…

Between him, Jackson and Jye we have our big forwards lines up for a decade.
There are all kids FFS ā¤ļø
Our kids have huge upside, add Johnson back and IMO that was probably our best 22.
Treacy, Erasmus and even Johnson showing some mongrel.
Josh definitely makes Amiss a better player. Darcy, Jackson combo is a nice one two.
Small forwards look dangerous now. ShultzšŸ‘
Midfield was elite with Oā€™Meara, Brayshaw, Serong best game together.
We may have gone slightly backwards this year, but the foundation is there.

Maybe we haven't gone backwards. Maybe our newbies are just beginning to gel.

Thought he was great in the third. Was standing up in the first half. Heā€™s not shying away from the contest
Agree! He had that period in the third where he won some contested ball against Parker and co, and then got involved on the spread once the ball left the area.

At 19 and a half hes got massive upside. I know he needs some size and another pre season but I'd hate to see him get squeezed out after a game like that. The sooner he gets to 20 or 30 games the better.

Problem is itā€™s Geelong. Bullies. Can see Fyfe starting and Erasmus sub.

Just watching it now and FMD it makes sooo much difference having some hard as concrete players now around the ground; JOM, Treacy, Ras. Puts doubt in the mind of your oppo every time.

Can probs add Shultz to that list. Love how he just throws himself 100% into every contest or tackle.

We havenā€™t gone backwards though, we are just coming to terms with a new, younger group playing together and taking on greater responsibilities.
It is evident when we get burned on transitional overlap from other teams - the defence is only as good as the midfield accountability and pressure on the ball delivery - that has previously been very poor at times.
The Jackson and Oā€™Meara potters can suck it up and watch this team grow week after week, they are finding their feet now.
Get young Matthew Johnson in there as well after the suspension - getting games into him and we are building really nicely.
Erasmus was very poised at times today, he will be a contested in an under beast very soon..

Great comment about the new, younger group. Maybe this has already been pointed out but as selected we had the youngest team on the park for the whole round! Sydney had 10 100+ gamers compared to our 5. Sydney had some injury woes but this is a huge away win for our side. Bring on Geelong...

Should have been 10 goals. 3 is extremely flattering for Sydney.

See what happens when you lower your eyes going forward?

All you dumb campaigners chucking a sad about Jackson after a couple of games can eat a massive ******* bag of dicks.
Double like

What an arvo at the footy just kicking on now with mates around Surry Hills with my Freo scarf on.

It's been a long drought first time I have been able to celebrate a Freo victory at the SCG with a few šŸ» šŸ».

Last time we won here I wasn't quite 18 yet haha back in 2011.

The team was pretty dominant really outside of a few lapses at end of quarters it should have been a 6-7 goal win.

Seemed like at the ground the focus from the Q1 to lower the eyes more finally worked.

Swans on the other hand are done I don't recall a team recovering from a GF shellacking the previous season and going one better. It takes 18 months to get over.

Just immensely positive all around.

  • Walker showing he can be a lockdown defender while losing none of the rebound. Would have been a complete mugging of Papley but for a couple of junk time goals.
  • Moose slowly edging back to normal service being fully resumed.
  • We're going to have to come up with a better descriptor than "second ruck" for Jackson, as it doesn't really do what he's doing justice.
  • JOM's best game in purple
  • We whomped them out of the midfield all day (but for some silly ball use in the first) and when they challenged us, we went harder.
  • Treacy has to stay a lock - provides the chop out for Jhye and frees up Jackson for his hybrid/roaming role.

Really looking forward to Darcy/Jackson v Gawn/Grundy in a couple of weeks.

After the game, I went out side. The farm was still there, and guess what.... Jacko was in the paddock.
Also great to see O'Meara is settling in nicely.
And after two years sitting off the coast, cyclone Treacy has made land and causing havoc to areas within his reach.
And for thos knockers... as Peter Noone sang with the Hermits...... "Theres a kind of hush... all over the world"
