I would have thought grabbing Tom Gillies as a Delisted FA would make enormous sense for you blokes.

It would have before the trade period.

We have now picked up Homebush and Heath (I assume with the promise of more game time) and Gillies too would only be coming to us if we could promise more game time.

We couldn't fit them all in our 22 (unless one can go forward).

Yep, I'd like to see us take him, along with Hayden Jolly ............... but positions on the list.

What do people think of ricky pettard from melbourne, is delisted and was a former vc for them I think, always liked his game.

I think Pettard might be Melbourne's version of Matt Thomas. In that if you only watch 1 in 10 games he looks like a super star, but if you see him play week in week out he's just a below average footballer.

Can't see how your post is relevant to the thread title nor any recent posts. Nothing wrong with what you wrote per se, just almost as if posted in the wrong thread.

someone just mentioned earlier they thought you would be hitting a KPD and we were talking about Gillies being an option for that.

wouldnt mind us looking at ben speight from north can run and carry if he gets delisted which i think he will , also think jurrah is worth a shot then jolly has to be looked at as well. We dont have to many spots left though at least there is a few options that will cost us nothing.

If we hadn't already picked up Monfries, but Petterd is a poor man's Monfries. Still, he's a decent player so I wouldn't be too upset if we picked him up.

The Kangaroos site say he has been delisted

I'm hoping Jacobs leaves us and we replace him with Jolly, we don't need jokers here who don't want to be here.

Jurrah as a Rookie pick only.

Really we can only pick up one extra player, coz we want to use National Draft picks 7, 30 & 31. I'd prefer those 3 picks to be used on best available juniors.

Ben is my cousin's son. He has had heaps of injuries. I'm not sure if his body will hold up.

My aunty and uncle have had a tough 12 years or so since a family tradegy. Ben playing at AFL level has been abig positive shinning light for them. My aunty will be thrilled if he is picked up by Port as she will be able to watch him more often, but I'm not sure my Norwood supporting, Crows supporter uncle will be so thrilled. :p

Or Wood - 204 cm and AFL experienced?

There are so, so many better ways to put our list spots to use than on a 25 year old (26 before the next season starts) ruckman who would be our 4th in line for the No. 1 ruck spot and who can't play as a second ruck because he can't play anywhere else on the field.

So with the list of players being delisted continuing today should any players be considered for us? We might consider maybe one player or two in the pre-season or rookie draft?
Players that stand out and could end up on AFL lists for another chance include: Will Young, Bryce Retzlaff, Sam Sheldon, Paul Bower, Simon Buckley, Luke Rounds, Cameron Wood, Jay Van Berlo, Tom Gillies, Hayden Jolly, Stephen Clifton, Ricky Petterd, Mathew Bate, Ben Speight, Ben Warren, Matt Campbell, Jeromey Webberley, Mark Seaby, Justin Sherman, Andrew Strijk, Gerrick Weedon.

Um, I just watched that for 3 and a half minutes. Wish I didn't.

Also wouldn't mind giving Lucas Cook another shot

I know ben has had shoulder problems thought he played abit in the twos this year , if he has a suspect body then maybe not with limited spots available but like his dash , hopefully he gets a spot somewhere think the roos might rookie him.

Definitely take Jolly. Any of the italicized on a one-year contract might be worth a shot if we have the list space to do it.

Bower: Carlton seem to be going for a full-on youth policy cleanout in defence, and Bower is a decent player who has been a casualty of that. Third tall rebounder who can play as a KPD if required. His experience and versatility put him ahead of Gillies IMO. Would welcome him.
Rounds: Would fit into our 'recruit good youngsters who have been starved of opportunity' recruiting model this pre-season, but I'd be wary of a guy who only managed one game this season considering Collingwood's injury worries. If we're already throwing a lifeline to Jolly, I'd rather we looked to fill another need rather than taking another unproven discard midfielder.
Gillies: Carlile, Trengove and Hombsch are proper KPD's, with Blee, Heath, Jonas, Paul Stewart, Salter and maybe Westhoff capable of filling a hole if we get wiped out by injury. Not sure that our list needs another pure stopping KPD who has shown no indication that he could also play in other roles. Would prefer Bower, but taking Gillies over Bower wouldn't be a stupid move of Logan over Surjan proportions.
Petterd: Talented but lazy, who knows what he could become after the wake-up call of being delisted by Melbourne and having a rocket put up him by Hinkley. Doesn't really fill a particular need, but you can never have too many good players.
Speight: SA boy who has some ability and would be a good sub option. Doesn't really fill a need though, and probably isn't good enough to be worth the injury risk. Possibly more of a rookie draft candidate if anything.
Campbell: Phillips and Banner are gone, Hitchcock has done nothing for two years and is constantly injured, and Jake Neade shows a heap of promise but has the body of a 15 year old. At worst, Campbell would be a stopgap, at best he could get back to his 2008 form and become a valuable crumber for us. North might agree to pick up some of his contract too, which would be a bonus.
Sherman: If he could get back to his best form, he'd walk into our starting 18 and fill our need for speed and line-breaking in the midfield. Is a bit of a w***er though, and the intangible impact that might have on an apparently close-knit group might be more significant than any on-field impact he'd have.

Preferences:
1. Bower
2. Petterd
3. Sherman
4. Campbell
5. Gillies
6. Speight
7. Rounds
