Should have won by at least 10 goals; our goalkicking was absolutely putrid, though there was plenty to like. Weller just ferociously hunted Melbourne's defence all night and applied immense physical pressure; he's become a genuine leader and barometer of the footy club. I wonder at what point the football media will notice how good Tim Membrey is. He has now kicked 32 from 11 games this year, which puts him ahead of Betts, Hogan, Gunston, Jenkins, Riewoldt, Hawkins, Walker, Darling, Stringer, Waite and many other media favourites for goals per game, yet week after week he kicks a bag and the commentators are surprised. If he played from the beginning of the year he'd be on track for a 60-65 goal season.

I wasn't at the game so I'm not sure if Minch's role was to stop Jones, but if that wasn't the case then he's probably out for Templeton, who has to be rewarded for consistent good form. Dmac out for Savage

Dunstan had a ripping 1st qtr for mine and kept us in it. Stellar qtr. Dropped off after that but came good in the 4th

Acres best signs I've seen from him. Started to use his size and take the game on. Needs to do that more and not do a stanley.

Geary is captain material

Bruce and armo are completely different players to last year :-(

Hickey immense. How good is it to have a decent ruck again

16 touches, 10 marks, 2 tackles and 4.2 goals.

Such a damn shame he's not eligible for the Rising Star...

Hard to believe he's 'only' 188cm.

Was the 1st quarter really that bad? If we'd kicked those early sitters & more accurately for the quarter, we'd have been on par with them - they had 2 more scoring shots 3.3 to 6.2

I thought our set up was good, we just didn't finish & we certainly had more energy in the 1st than in previous weeks.

At least it was an improvement
I thought we matched them, if the mark to Membrey was paid which turned out to be a Demobs goal we would have nearly squared the q

Bruce was good... took some really strong marks and capped it with 2 goals. Gets more attention this year but he keeps working hard.

Its obvious why he is playing and lonie isnt. Want to condense it look at the play where the high ball got kicked to gresh deep inside 50 where he had to punch above his weight. Gresh was able to compete, force the ground ball and dish it off for a goal

If that was lonie the ball would have been exiting our 50

Gresh is coming along nicely. Still has some moments by foot but its offset by everything else he does

I cant see lonie coming back in whilst gresh is playing that role

I would rather Lonie than Minch but that is just me. I think Lonie can really play.

We went in small & they said Hogan would tear us a new one.

Not sure what he actually tore, but it seems like the new one's better than the old one

Loved the win, thought Dunstan was good, but don't think 17 disposals 11 contested is something to crow about.
Now if it was 17 contested ... well yeah.
In that game it was. We had a low possession game - 362 to 400 - no real standouts. Our highest ball getter was Joey with 26

Good rounded team game imho

A few weeks ago after the game when they had the mic on Geary, I said never a bad word from me again. When it was on the line today, it was him that stood very bloody tall and saved our butt. best game he has played 10 out 10

Up and down game, but we got up by 6 goals in the end? Can't be disappointed with that.

We keep our statistically unlikely run against Dees going. Now 14 in a row - a club record. :thumbsu:

Certainly didn't like getting beaten by them in that elimination final 10 years ago.

Whenever I think of our winning streak, I think of that final. Horrid.

Dempster not getting his cut in this thread IMO

His marking in the backline and again at half forward when we were pressing was invaluable. Lost a couple of one on ones to Hogan but no shit, he's only giving away around 13kg's as listed.
I thought he had a good second half but a mare in the first half

LEADING GOALKICKERS

1. Tim Membrey - 32 goals (11 games) / 2.91 per game
2. Josh Bruce - 29 goals (16 games) / 1.8125 per game
3. Nick Riewoldt - 23 goals (15 games) / 1.53 per game
4. Mav Weller - 20 goals (16 games) / 1.25 per game
5. Jack Steven - 12 goals (16 games) / 0.75 per game
6. Jack Newnes - 12 goals (16 games) / 0.75 per game
7. Paddy McCartin - 10 goals (9 games) / 1.11 per game
8. Jade Gresham - 9 goals (13 games) / 0.69 per game
9. Jack Lonie - 7 goals (8 games) / 0.875 per game
10. David Armitage - 7 goals (16 games) / 0.4375 per game
Great stats but I think two decimal places is sufficient :)
