So they interviewed everyone on the 21st when the season ended appointed on the 22 nd , I’m selling this tunnel in Melbourne it goes under the yarra and comes out the other side, what were we doing for nigh on 4 months?

Fair enough, that’s not an unwarranted comment, I put together my response poorly.

It would seem as if Kingsley and Yze had interviewed the week before the final round in 2022.

GWS clearly did due diligence before that. But RFC has done the same thing, (reaching out to certain assistant coaches to apply).

Even with the GWS example the point is still the same. The interview process - when it involves assistant coaches external to a club - doesn’t start when the previous coach leaves but much later in the year.

Even if you wanted an interview process to start two or so weeks out from the end of season, think the club wouldn’t have wanted any distraction for Cotchin and Riewoldt’s last games.

Yes , well of course there will be those that wanted a different coach appointed that will be waiting for the first slip up so they can start baying for blood and say I told you so.

Nothing to do with confidentiality. Everything to do with ensuring the focus of the club as a whole was all on two of the clubs greats retiring and the celebration which it was. Which is what it should be.

And the club did sound out perspective coaches before (the aforesaid due diligence) this point as well. It’s been stated that the club had shortlisted candidates the week before the 13 August; which would assume the sound of coaches was happening for a period of time before that.

Again, you don’t interview outside assistant coaches until the last part of the year. That process takes time.

But to insinuate that it has been sitting on its hands or playing Nero isn’t correct.

Right decision that takes a long time is better than the wrong decision over a short time.

The longer this drags on the further behind the eightball this leaves us. Yes we have list management and fitness conditioning staff but surely the new coach would have a large say in these areas, especially list management

We've got Ralphsmith and Mansell as the only players who played this season currently without a new deal. Outside that everyone else is contracted. There are a couple of rookies without deals but hardly going to derail 2024 by waiting to re-sign them.

Pre season training doesn't begin until November and with our poor draft hand it's unlikely that we're going to be overly active in the trade period.

Not sure how we're going to be behind the 8 ball based on that.

Clearly we aren't going to be doing much this off season anyway. So the whole full rebuild/not to be rebuild debate doesn't really matter until late next season. We don't have the picks to start a proper rebuild this off season anyway and we wont be bring in any big names. There arent many list management decisions left to make.
