Plenty of that thinking during Dimma's early years with GC and GWS coming in. Got sick of Caro bleating that we should get priority picks etc given our struggles and the compromised drafts. Hindsight says it pushed us to find rookies, role players and low picks like Butler, Baker Lambert, Short, Broad, Castagna and Grimes. We can do it again I reckon

If you look closely Grigg has a lot of influence in the Geelol coaches box on game day. I have no doubt he was a massive reason for the Cats flag last year. I think he fits the bill perfectly for us. Has the hunger. Get the old 2017 coaching crew back. Leppa and Caracella as the assistants. Happy to keep Rutten as our backline assistant.

I like Grigg too. Dimma singled him out several years back as the player most likely to become a great coach. I recall he made a tactical move in a 2021 game at 1/4 time for cats against us and it blew the game apart. Yze would be great also. Like Dimma at same stage has had to bide his time through a few rejections

We can announce a new senior coach whenever we are ready to, it’s just that they won’t be starting until after the season is over (if they’re from another team).

has a pretty good coaching career as an assistant. All from his Wikipedia article, but:

• He was Hawthorn’s specialist goalkicking and development coach from January 2012 to November 2014. Hawthorn were elite kicks during this time and he’s credited as one of the reasons for that.
• From November 2014, he was Hawthorn’s backline coach. Hawthorn then conceded the least amount of points in the following season (2015). They went on to be top 3 in least points conceded in 2018 and 2019 as well. However, they were only ordinary defensively in 2016, 2017, and 2020.
• He joined Melbourne 2021 as a midfield coach. Melbourne went from having an ineffective and dysfunctional midfield to being one of the best and most organised midfield teams in the competition.

Not only does he have forward line, backline, and midfield experience as a coach - he’s also had success in each of those assistant coaching roles.

I’m not against others, but Yze’s assistant coaching career is quite decorated. Maybe he’d be a good fit for us. Also, maybe he can tell us how we can finally beat Melbourne.

Grigg is very young & a lot less experienced than other assistant coaches, I doubt he'd putting his hand up this early.
