He was on the verge of being delisted according to the Port board prior to us being interested.

Now they want a straight swap.

He is the steak knives.

I think Port are desperate and think they can contend, Gray retired - they DESPERATELY need Rioli hence them being crazy enough to offer him 4 years.

27 and their future 2nd for Rioli and our future 3rd is what I’d be pushing for personally

Eagles being campaigners

Good

Very unlike us.

Feels like we’ve bent over backwards to get deals done recently. The last time I can recall us playing hardball was when Mitch Brown asked to go to St Kilda.

Seems like we are more likely to get bent over when we are trying to acquire a player, not so much when someone wants one of ours.

Without us forcing Mitch Brown to stay, we’d have never known how useful a forward pocket/backup ruckman he was.

Let’s be realistic here, he’s barely done anything of note for 3 odd seasons (for obvious reasons), has question marks over his character and fitness, and is out of contract.

Refusing 27 if they offer it would be a weird hill to die on.

Reckon Rhino’s had a mare here.

CC rule number 1 of negotiating:

Never accept the first offer.

It's early days in the trade period so no hurry to rap things up on day one.

I like this

If Port are backing themselves to make finals like they seem to be and we finish bottom 4 that swap of future 2nd/3rd is a downgrade from 30 to 40 for Port

We go into next draft period with 2xR2 picks and get to deathride Port for another season

Yep I think they’d cave if we asked for that

Netting extra picks for next year is a smart investment too considering how good that draft cohort looks

27 seems fair to me.
It's about where I had it when putting age, injury and history on the negative side of the equation against talent, length of contract and reported value of contract on the upside.

If we can somehow persuade a future 2nd in for a future 3rd out swap as well I'd be stoked.

27 is a bit unders to me, but 27 and a future second is big time overs.

Get after them West Coast, make it happen.
Is it though? Out of contract, poor fitness record, poor discipline record, lack of exposed form, small forward position not worth as much as others.

I'd snap their hands off for 27.

But hey, if we somehow manage to wrangle more, I'll be impressed.
