Is it though? Out of contract, poor fitness record, poor discipline record, lack of exposed form, small forward position not worth as much as others.

I'd snap their hands off for 27.

But hey, if we somehow manage to wrangle more, I'll be impressed.
Four years at $500k tells me Port think he’s something.

His past factors into it, absolutely, but if there hadn’t been such a fallout from the trade request and it had just been a genuine toss up as to where he went: I’d rather have kept him than taken 27.

He’s made it clear he wants to go, 27 will be helpful and I expect that’s what it will be, but if it was purely up to me and things hadn’t played out like they did over the last month, I’d keep him rather than take a mid second rounder.

He’s our second most impactful player to my mind, has shown great output in bursts as a mid rotation, and if his head is right he’s a lock in our team. Always seemed to get involved in the few glimpses of positive play we saw last year.

They’re all big ifs, health, fitness, off field issues etc, but if Port are stumping up decent coin and a four year deal to him then they obviously rate him and that to me is more than a pick 27 offer.

Would a swap of WCE future second with their future first work with Frederick? Two first rounders next year then…?

Thinking we’re better off trying to get picks in next years draft for Rioli - perhaps their future 2nd & 3rd with our future 4th going back

Guessing at port finishing 7-10th and us landing 13-16th it’d be picks 27-30 + 45-48 for Rioli + 57-60

Values Rioli at around 21-24 which seems fair

Gives us an extra 2nd and 3rd round pick next year whilst giving up a 4th

Probably the most stupid comment I’ve ever read on this website!!

Also slightly racist!!
As someone who has fostered aboriginal children, their sense of family is like nothing ive ever seen. They make italians look insular. Going to school in a new town 500 km from his own town my foster boy figured out his extended family within a year - cousins 5 times removed. Phenomenal knowledge of where he sits in families so extended its not funny.

When he left care he moved to perth and was accepted straight into family by people hed never met and treated as close family.

Not all aboriginal folk are like this but when they tell you they are very close to family - they are in a way that is pretty alien to us. Its a web of obligation and other things i couldnt explain because im not their culture.

Unless you are you wont get it.

But suppose your fifth cousin said to you i need a place to crash and you had never met him before in your life, how much obligation would you feel?

So Graham has rejected Ports overtures and informed them that he will be staying at Richmond, that should un-clutter the Junior deal.

Sucks to be Port as they started the trade period with three priority names on the while board:

Dunkley ................. Chose Brisbane.
Junior ...................wants In at Port.
Graham...Chose to stay at Richmond.

So back to square one for Port.

Graham's rebuff now makes things a lot less messy as far as diluted draft capital is concerned.

Graham staying at Tigers (plus Dunkley choosing Brisbane earlier) probably good for us.

Port now have a full suite of picks essentially (with the Amon compo) and seemingly only the rioli deal to get done.

On SM-G986B using BigFooty.com mobile app
Nah....because for the second time they've now decided they're going to grab Pickett from Melbourne 🤣....again!!

JHF should help them lick their wounds! Port have been busy...

Given Port now have to try and get JHF over to Alberton, a straight swap for their Amon compensation pick seems the more probable outcome now. Difficult to see picks 2 and 8 being involved in the exchange and North would demand more than just pick 2 anyway.

North will probably ask for a player that Port won't want to part with, as being integral to the deal, which means a long and protracted negotiation period that may not see a trade being done.

When you come after a particular player thats still under contract, the onus is on the pursuing Club to have the players and or draft capital to get the deal done.

Port will need to hand over something substantial by way of a package to secure JHF.

A consequence of which may well mean that Junior is headed to another Club other than Port.

Maybe, but if North are after a player or players then I'm guessing picks like 27 or Ports F2nd aren't of much value to Nth.

The only caveat is that if potentially the North F2nd priority pick is tied up in it in some way - as we may want that for Rioli (seems overs, but we may try). If so, then we will have to wait on the JHF stuff, otherwise we really should get either 27 or F2nd (Port) done relatively early as there is no point potentially missing out all together just because other deals are way apart on value.

The sticking point now will be if port use a future first for JHF in addition to 8 they wont be allowed to trade the future 2nd.
It'll end up being 27 and a player or he goes to another club or stays with us.
