One was rucking against Sandilands..one was rucking against Renouf..giving Rising Star nominations to 12 possession games is just silly and even you know it. White was good but Beams and Zaharatis were much better, with Masten and Mitch Brown to follow tonight.
How can you expect someone to ever get nominated playing in the ruck then? 12 disposals wasn't the significant thing, 28 hit outs is- that's a pretty decent effort for a guy playing his fourth game, regardless of who he was rucking against. (I'm not disagreeing on the Sandilands point)

For those suggesting he didn't even ruck against Renouf- I'm certain that he did a bit? Regardless of that, even if he did just go up against Roughy and Buddy- White's only got an inch on Roughy and is listed at the same height as Buddy.

Hille: 1 Goal, 5 Marks, 14 Possessions, 11 Hit Outs, 1 Tackle.
White: 1 Goal, 3 Marks, 12 Possessions, 28 Hit Outs, 2 Tackles.

And Hille's the third best ruckman in the league?

Don't worry about silly awards Stat. They mean nothing. I doubt White would have rucked in matches at professional level (whilst on AFL list) for more than a handful of matches, so his efforts are admirable. (he does not get to ruck in the 2nds)

I would rather our players continually go under the radar anyway.

Heigh isn't everything. Both are forwards, not ruckmen.

White played well, however given the opposition i feel he'd need another week to back it up before getting the nod.

[edit] Didn't realise White wasn't a specialist ruckmen either, still feel he needs another good week though.

Mitch Robinson will get it this week, they always 'even' up the unlucky player who missed out on the previous weeks nomination (that's how they have done so in the past)

I think at the end of it they make sure all the best young stars are nommed.

At this stage some teams are playing kids and some teams are not.

Teams with retirements look like those chucking in the 18yos. North and Freo.

As a Saint I've still got my eye on Tom Lynch.

Dang it, I clicked quote and then read your edit :D You're right- he's not a specialist ruckman and is only really playing there because that's the spot available to get a run in the seniors. He's viewed as a KPP longterm from as much as I can tell, he plays as a key back or forward in the reserves but obviously does ruck a bit there too (but certainly isn't a fulltime ruckman).

I agree that he probably needs another week with a strong performance, although you could say the same for anyone who wins it in the first few rounds of the year ;) Either way as a footy fan it's always nice to see a young guy do well.

Lucky i got in in time :p

At the end of the day the nomination counts for nothing, its just good seeing so many young players coming in and making an immediate impact.

I guess so, this is all just what leads to people saying Sydney are an aging side with no apparent youth.

Probably Mitch Robinson, he still has credits from last weeks excellent game.

Don't think it works like that. The kid was brilliant last week and serviceable this week. Desrves one but probably wont get it. Based on this weeks form Zaharakis or Beams will probably win.

That will happen only if there is no standout during the round. He may be a chance, but if they are true to their own guidelines, he may miss out.

The guidelines they said they look for last year were.

1. Standout during that weekends round
2. If no standout, someone who has been consistent for a number of games, eg Robinson
3. Someone who has been solid for alot of the season without neccisarily being the standout on any given week, and have been close to the mark a few times. eg Collingwoods Nathan Brown and Essendons Reimers last year. Were close but missed the nom a few times during the year, but was thouroughly deserving of one.

Bbut in reality, who knows how the panel think.
