AFL Autopsy Rnd 12: Loss to the Tigers

You're kidding! Geelong were plenty dirty. Hocking, Milburn, Stevie J, Scarlett. I remember Cam Mooney always trying to bury someone's head in the dirt or elbow to the head after a mark or after it crossed the boundary line. And yet you think Fyfe is dirty?? He walks a fine line at times and sometimes crosses it but he's no Milburn, Johnson or Mooney. Sorry, off topic I realise. Too Bombers fans, you're going to be fine. Such incredible talent out there.

Geelong players for years would put their knees high and hard into oppositions backs when going for marks. They really tried to hurt and do damage. Podsiadly was one of the worst - just glad no one got seriously injured. Milburn got a taste of his own medicine from Byron Pickett one day.

I remember 4 dropped marks in second half that directly resulted in goals to tigers.
AFL players should not consistently let the ball bounce of their hands.
The superhuman effort of Parish and great games by a few others papered over some serious deficiencies. If we fix those soon watch out.

Keep an eye on the availability of Astbury at the end of the year. Just quietly.
No worries you can trust me. I’ll keep it between you and me.
Surely he was talking about his own team no? The tigers have been good beating two teams predicted to finish bottom 4, one of which severely undermanned. But yeah Ashbry will be an inclusion.

Just listening to review of the game and it was stated that Tigers scored 101 points off turnovers (season record).

That is the game right there.

Plus, totally fixable too.

Lack of marking power hurt us too IMO.

We did the basics poorly & gave them some really easy goals so that stat isn’t surprising at all.

Agree that a lot of it is fixable & combined with personnel changes (ie removing Guelfi down back), we can improve quickly.

A 30yr old with achilles issues, can't imagine why he'd be available.

Someone will give them pick 19 for him ‘because he’s played in 3 flags’.

Dude moves like a credenza

Not trying to be a dick but how do you read the Richmond board? Obviously game day threads aren’t a good place for football discussion but to have seemingly a huge percentage of posts in the preview and autopsy threads read like the comments section on Facebook makes my brain hurt.
Like a lot of boards, knee jerk, and proper jerk, reactions abound in game day threads, personally I try to avoid them.
In the autopsy and general threads there are a lot of tongue in cheek posts, articulate and balanced posts (honestly), psychotic posts, absurd posts and some very negative posts towards Richmond and Richmond players.
That is as it should be as any club board should be for that clubs supporters to say what they wish, within societal guidelines.
A rival clubs board should be treated respectfully, IMO.

The Main Board is a cesspit of imbeciles and trolls, generally!

HTB non decisions are across the board. Clubs should be formally questioning AFL. There has to be a clear direction from somewhere to keep the game moving at ALL costs, they can't miss this many. I can live with the 50/50 ones not being paid but there are so many "clear as day" ones not being rewarded.

Rewarding good tackles is a fabric of our game. Pressure needs to be applied to whatever committee is running the game.

The chorus of angst is growing between coaches, fans and commentators/media. It is not a fleeting outbusrt.

how can they?

They AFL has put umpires on such a pedestal that there mere mention of them making a mistake means you get a $10,000+ fine.

Parish is a freak.
Only took a couple of injuries for our genius coaches to give him the opportunity to be a top 15 player in comp. the smarties in here would still be talking about trading him for a steak had sheil not gone down.

I think clubs can ask for a clarification, that is all.

I know, there needs to be more accountability.

Bring back the old "what's your decision" from the World of Sport days!!

umpires should absolutely be able to be openly criticized in the same way that players are.

Urge to kill, rising

Someone needs to do a compilation of all of the non paid holding the balls. Those were so outrageous. The one where dusty did a 720 then threw the ball with one hand not getting paid was probably only topped by the one where literally everyone stopped but the umpires didnt even pay it

I expect the Herbatron video this week will be a sequel to the 2019 ANZAC day video with all the missed calls, keep an eye out for it Tuesday night.

I know we're a young developing side and shouldn't be expecting much, even as impatient as we are getting, it still stung to a different cord when we lost that one initially, because of how they teased us with 8 minutes left to go.

If we were trailing the entire night for 30 points then it would make it easier to remind yourself that you're developing - but then when you see them snatch the lead with about 8 minutes to go, you start going from scouting-mode to LET'S ****ING DO THIS mode.

So that's why I think it stings a bit different, because they played so well for a developing side that it heightened expectations, but it was a tease. The good old cockblock.

But I gotta remember that they should be commended for playing beyond their expectations - not the opposite. So I can't wait for Hawthorn after the bye.

Hopefully the bye acts like a HT break for us. Lets us regroup and deeply assess. Doesn't make it easier when you have to wait longer though.

The final margin flattered the Tigers, it was a much closer game than that in general.

We ran out of legs late, think the Bye is coming at the right time for us.

Cox seriously impressive on a Wing, going to be an absolute nightmare match-up for the next decade there.

Parish just gets better and better. 44 disposals is huge. But to also generate 700+ metres gained means he's not just crabbing sideways and getting cheapies with it.

Umpiring woeful, Holding The Ball is reaching absurd levels across the league. Players literally getting a lifetime and not disposing of the ball in any way correctly, to the point that players from both sides come to a stand-still, probably suggests the AFL are asking the umpires to umpire it in a way that makes no sense whatsoever.

A couple of those umpiring decisions that should have been paid our way, being paid, along with Cox / Perkins / Stringer / Waterman kicking goals that they were well and truly capable of, makes the margin much closer.

More positives than negatives to take away from this one, despite the L and the final margin.
