Re: Rnd 19 - Carlton v North Melb @Etihad Friday 29th July 7:40PM

A win like we had last night can easily overshadow some of the deficineies we are still carrying.

Unfortunately we have up to 6 from last night that won't be in our team if we can get all our boys back from injury.

IMO Hendo & Yarran were the only ones who got beaten last night and I can't see them getting dropped, but then the MC works in mysterious ways. I think Ratts commented on the even output across the board in that second half and I'd tend to agree.

Re: Rnd 19 - Carlton v North Melb @Etihad Friday 29th July 7:40PM

Do the North boys hate Etihad as much as we do?

We've beaten Essendon and the Bulldogs at Docklands (I rarely refer to it as "Etihad", stuff promoting Collingwood sponsors), and we should have beaten Sydney and StKilda.

As for Walker, who knows? He's certainly never bothered us before. He has a 2-7 record v North and has kicked 3 goals in those 9 matches. However, he's been a decent contributer in the last couple of matches.

In relation to Walker's goal kicking record. This is his first season up forward (making his 44 goals even more impressive).3 goals from 9 matches is not really a true indicator of his ability

Emirates sponsors Collingwood, not Etihad.

As for Walker, of course he hasn't kicked many vs. your mob. It's his first season as a genuine forward.

Re: Rnd 19 - Carlton v North Melb @Etihad Friday 29th July 7:40PM

Much tougher task this week, North have been playing well consistently, their marking talls will bother us.

Be good to get Waite and Carrazzo back, I would make maybe two changes, out Touhy and Curnow

They're quietly confident on the North board, our small forwards will cause them nightmares, I see Eddie and Jeffy having a big impact

Blues by around 4 goals

Re: Rnd 19 - Carlton v North Melb @Etihad Friday 29th July 7:40PM

Fair point, will edit a few of the match-ups. Also, do you remember why the last NM Carlton game was significant?

It was the 25th anniversary of Friday Night Football, and the first Friday night match was between Carlton and North Melbourne.

Re: Rnd 19 - Carlton v North Melb @Etihad Friday 29th July 7:40PM

Lindsay Thomas had the game of his life against us last year which was extremely annoying. Reckon North would take a punt on a repeat performance?

He was in the best for North Ballarat and kicked 4 but I doubt it.

Against Coburg, I believe. 4 goals against them is pretty hard to read into.

Re: Rnd 19 - Carlton v North Melb @Etihad Friday 29th July 7:40PM

Big game for us and them , remember last year. I see the danger man as Petrie our back are vulnerable against quality talls. Ins Russell and Carrazo and possibly White.

Re: Rnd 19 - Carlton v North Melb @Etihad Friday 29th July 7:40PM

Big game. North always seem to lift against us and have been a bogey team for us (like Hawthorn).

I think Curnow should be dropped to try and find his pre-injury form. Twomey also to miss as well. Didn't do anything wrong, just didn't do much altogether. Wouldn't drop Tuohy.

I think it's time for Thornton to be dropped again as well. Did too many things wrong last night and was always looking to blame someone else for his own mistakes, particularly in marking contests.

Would like to see Carrazzo and Russell come back, don't think Waite will be ready. Would give him another week anyway just to be sure and come back for the Melbourne game.

Think Davies did enough to keep his spot, but you never know. Would also like to see Bower come back and play a full game if he's fit. Otherwise O'hAilpin to bring the ball to ground in the forward line or as another big man in defence.

OUT: Thornton, Curnow, Twomey
IN: Carrazzo, Russell, O'hAilpin/Bower (if fit)

Re: Rnd 19 - Carlton v North Melb @Etihad Friday 29th July 7:40PM

If fit:

Carrazzo replaces curnow
russell replaces touhy(inj)
waite replaces twomey

This is another post in which I've seen Tuohy labelled as injured. Have I missed something?

Re: Rnd 19 - Carlton v North Melb @Etihad Friday 29th July 7:40PM

Great write up.

Couple things I want to add though.

1. People need to stop doubting thornton. He has had an amazing year, and would be almost top ten for importance. Plays a role every week, and when we have a full side is a deadset gun swingman.

2. Walker will not struggle with hype. He is such a confidence player that it will only do him good. Perfect example was against collingwood. Didn't look likely until he snapped that goal, gets his tail up and then dominates.

3. Setanta was woeful on the weekend. No chance to play. Austin before him on form and fitness. Levi was way better too. His fitness was fine. Has the best dukes at the club. Wish he could kick. Played as a roaming chf and Rucked. Otherwise, Only russell and McLean had good games.

Came off very late in the game. Took himself off but there's a worry.

I was half watching The Sunday Footy Show and heard 'Kreuzer' and 'knee'. I shat myself, watched the rest of it to be relieved.

Re: Rnd 19 - Carlton v North Melb @Etihad Friday 29th July 7:40PM

If the other boys were all fit then there may be little argument, but that's not going to happen this week.
would not want to carry too many under done players especially with finals approaching (and a road trip to WA)
conservative approach I expect

Re: Rnd 19 - Carlton v North Melb @Etihad Friday 29th July 7:40PM

Bigger game then last night. Cannot afford to drop our momentum against a middle of the table side.

Re: Rnd 19 - Carlton v North Melb @Etihad Friday 29th July 7:40PM

If Carrazzo or Russel arent deemed fit, surely McLean will get a chance. Would probably offer more than one of Curnow or Ellard at this point in time.

McLean's far too slow and the MC appear to be going for speed at the moment.

Re: Rnd 19 - Carlton v North Melb @Etihad Friday 29th July 7:40PM

Would be awesome if Freo beat WCE tonight and widened the gap.

This is the draw coming up for us and WCE and predicitions.

Carlton WCE
19. Kangaroos Dogs (Melb) W W
20. Melbourne Rich (PS) W W
21. Fre (PS) Mel (ES) W maybe W
22. Haw Ess (PS) Even W
23. BYE Bris (Gabba) Bye W
24. St K Ade (PS) Even W

West Coast have a stupidly easy draw to finish the season so if we drop a game we are pretty much out of the top 4. Any more games like the bulldogs one and we are in trouble.

Amazing??? Please...

He has been serviceable throughout much of the year, seldom more, and can be thankful that injury has gifted him opportunity. Last night he was deplorable. Whoever he was on (and he was shuffled around consistently in the first half from Hurley to Ryder to Crameri) was dangerous whenever the ball entered Essendon's attacking zone. Simply refused to play in front, and being slow off the mark his opponnt continually got the 3-4 metres required to take simple marks. Also another three silly frees against.

More comfortable with Laidler on an opposition tall despite the size disadvantage. Smarter, faster and more desperate.

25th Anniversary yes, ........... Nth v Carl on the 1st Friday night, no.

The first Friday night match was North vs Collingwood.
