written before the VFL match ...

Out: Phillips (Om), Weitering, Gibbs, Murphy (all inj)

In: Kreuzer, Jaksch, Graham, Cuningham (Smedts and Kerridge in the frame too).

Out: White, Phillips, Wright, Pickett
In: Buckley, Kreuzer, Cuningham, Thomas

I'm expecting the two younger names I've mentioned to show something tomorrow, because there's a huge opening for them after tonight.
Thinking the same with Buckley and Cuningham Jimmae would like to see Smedts as well instead of Thomas ( you know my thoughts there ;) but you will probably be right there too ) . And this experiment of having all of Plowman Marchbank Rowe Macreadie and White all in the side has to stop its depleting our run bigtime . Also agree with you now that Pickett needs to go back to the twos just not getting involved enough :thumbsu:

Running hard, but not losing his man enough and not rewarding his team mates when they send the ball his way by marking it/gathering it when kicked to advantage.

He's a short bloke, so it's not all his fault, but it's not like he's going to grow to 6'2" overnight.

Pickett dropped?

Dont think so.

Then what's the reason for him staying in. If it is him 'growing' and 'learning', then he can do that in the VFL. Nothing against the guy and I do think he will find his spot in the team eventually, but it was some of his work last night that only had us laughed at. His form as well has been very poor when compared to the other 21 in each side.

When he runs with the ball in hand, he lacks the footy brain and is unable to balance out his pace and control of the ball. He becomes too indecisive and results in him making many mistakes (running too far or simply having most of his disposals intercepted). He is not the type of player we should be playing at the very moment since he depends on a better level of support from the rest of his team, and he isn't going to get it anytime soon.

This leniency and constant excusing of his current inability to impact the game compared to the rest of his teammates is just baffling sometimes.

Bolts did say in his presser that each team is picked on form, hard to support Pickett's position so far on form
He's been average last couple of weeks, but was one of our worst last night.

Pickett has played a few games and is fast developing into what will become one of the game's more formidable attacking weapons. I'm happy to see him keep doing exactly what he has been doing - bursts of extreme speed evidencing serious football brain power - unfortunately just missing...but better than anyone else out there in making something from nothing.

He is a bee's dick from having a breakout game where he slots 3-4 goals and has a hand in setting up a few more.

IF he is dropped now - it will do his confidence ( which is the currency young players are short of) no good. he needs to just relax a tad and let it flow - rather than trying to force the issue and just miss.

Again it's just a difference of opinion. AFL footy should be a tough task to get into.

When it comes to playing the kids, Bolton and the MC are rightly rewarding young kids with opportunity based on merit and hard work in the VFL. What needs to be the case is proper management and consequences for poor work. It is a matter of the younger crop 'pushing'. Push and push to bring out better as each week comes and goes. Omitting Pickett in my opinion won't destroy his confidence at all, instead be a reminder for him to push for better and ensure he can do more than what he has done.

Petrevski-Seton, Fisher, Polson and Williamson last night had all shown at least a highlight or two about what they can offer us and recent efforts suggest that they deserve to build up from that (Macreadie looks like he needs to be rested for at least one week). Pickett however in recent times has been struggling and unable to bring his best in a team like ours (and the team is not going to make it any easier). We need to reward more on what's been given rather than hope for what can be given. Potential is important, but form comes first. Shouldn't gift games for substandard performances.

Also I do have an issue with that line I highlighted. He so far has not shown he can carry both at the same time. Especially after what I saw last night with him running to far without bouncing and lacking the ability to make quick decisions (also having the ball cut off).

He'll eventually be a complete lock in our 22 but with the way the team is playing, he is only looking like an extra number. Needs a couple of weeks in the seconds.
