get some glasses.

Plowman won the vast majority of 1 v 1’s all day - regardless of who he was on.

same as he does every week.

Again, I disagree. I find it amusing how many people feel required to jump up and down when you don’t mention Plowman in a positive light. I simply stated I feel nervous with him in one on ones. He regularly gets out bodied and has no intensity at the contest. I don’t think the rest of our back six suffer from that. If people are happy with his output good for you.
All in all happy to get away with a win in a scrappy game. Hopefully we put the hawks to the sword next week.

56 free kicks in a 60 min game is outrageous.

2 teams played poorly and made a heap of mistakes.

Of those 56, probably 50 would have been clear cut. The other whole 6 may be debateable. Both teams were very sloppy, pretty dumb and a bit undisciplined.

Several things.

Moore needs at least one more game. There has never been a bigger difference between AFL seconds and AFL; these scratch matches are not worth shit. Kennedy might've come in and torn it up against WB, but he was down last week, looking slow of mind. And Kennedy has played AFL consistently over the last few years, can Moore say that?

So, he ran under the ball and flew at a few he shouldn't have. Comes with the territory of being overeager and very underdone in terms of actual match practice. I'm not saying pencil him in and give him a genuine shot at it (although it'd be fairer) but he's gotten this match under his belt and he could hardly play any worse.

We need to stop spoiling each other. Our best footy has come from one tall/marking player (whether it's Martin, Kennedy or a KPF) flying, the others blocking and/or swarming for them. We kick to a lead, or to patches of vacant grass; we do not kick to a pack of 10+ players, and pray someone clunks it. Putting it out in front of someone if you must go the long bomb is one thing, and the long bomb is part of our game whether we like it or not. But we simply cannot do a defender's job for them the way we did today. Spread the defense, and require them to be better aerially across the board. Won't happen.

This one'll be controversial: I think, as good as Ed was today, we need to be filtering him out.

As much of the ball he can find, and as effective he is at beating an opposition key mid, opposition coaches let it happen. Why, you ask? Because if they hold Cripps, Ed becomes our premier inside mid, and winds up getting 20+ possessions and kicking more than he should. Ed should not be kicking the ball. He is not a particularly long kick, nor is he an exceptional one. Every now and then, he'll let off a ripper, but most of the time they're big up and unders, and opposition have time to get around the balldrop.

As far as this goes, I don't expect it to happen any time soon. He's too important to us, and even as a bottom 6 member of the team he provides something of value that many teams lack. But let's make this unabashedly clear: as a disposer of the ball, Ed is as likely to give it back as he is to retain possession.

Finally, a bit of context. We have, on my count, JSOS, Charlie, Harry, Newman, Kreuz, Fish as members of the ones on the injury list. We had Harry as a late out today, replaced with someone who gave us nothing. We had Gov go down in the second term. We have not won a game against this opposition for 5 years. We could not use Casboult as a backup ruck, as that would've compromised our structure ahead of the ball. Cripps was down. Doc was well held.

All that, and we won?

Honestly, I'm really not sure what people expect round here sometimes. We are not a genuine top 4 chance this year, and anyone who thought so in preseason was having delusions of grandeur. So we played well last week and the week before; we like playing both mobs. This week, we had opposition who like playing us, who gave it their best shot and no dice.

Sometimes, you've just got to wake up and realise that things aren't going to go smooth, but it's not really raining all that hard. Not anymore.

Teague has shown he won't reward poor performances. All about culture. I mean when names like Moore/Cottrell/Polson/Honey are on our emergency list ahead of Fisher/LOB/Stocker etc he clearly gives no fu**s about reputation or 'potential'. You have to earn it.

For example let's say Harry, Gov & JSOS are unavailable again next week...if TDK hasn't been in good form I think there's zero chance Teague would bring him in. Not interested. He'd rather give Moore another go (he did compete at least) or shuffle the team around like sending Kennedy forward and bringing in Philp/Fisher.
That's the right attitude as well

You do realise that Plowman wears number 20? Played on Zurhaar and towelled him up?

And yet he’s already played one more AFL game than any of us ever will.

I don’t see the point of shitcanning a young bloke playing his first game.

First game Crippa played, he didn’t set the world on fire. Way way way to soon to be making that sort of call.

Not directing this specifically at you, Mister. Just a bit of an unnecessary theme becoming evident.
His first game for Carlton not his first AFL game you realise this dont you, delisted free agent. Played 8 games for Richmond over 4 years and is 24. Just saying.

I wonder how many marks we could have taken if Martin didnt jump and spoil our own forwards.

You want him to jump and compete at times but sometimes he needs to stay down. Today got it wrong too many times.

Thoroughly agree. Was borderline selfish at times as teammates were in better positions.

Great call!
Can go missing for parts of a game, but really smart, skilful player, and makes things happen. His little tap to Gibbons for our first goal today sums him up. Just creative and makes things happen.
I think it was only hamstring awareness I don’t think he actually did his hammy, could be wrong but I don’t think I am, need him in the side very smart player.

Good, be nice if he showed it in the practice matches.......

You can't reward poor performances in the reserves

TDK has been working into fitness after a spell out from a knee injury. He kicked two this week. The Callum Moore experiment is over 😥

Yeah needs to be smarter.

Though i suspect with no McKay he was instructed to act as a tall a bit more and go for marks. Especially after Gov went down. Rather than just waiting at ground level like a small. But yeah needs to asses the situation.

Yes he kept a 22 year old coming back from injury to his season average of disposals and he didn’t kick a goal like he averages this year. Doesn’t mean I have any faith in his ability one on one. For some reason due to him becoming the whipping boy, people feel they have to defend him at every opportunity and not acknowledge his deficiencies

We all said last week that we can’t play to the dogs game level every week.Today we played as bad as we could and still won.Good teams win ‘ugly’ something we have not been able to do.This year we have grown from week to week. Our game plan when on is one of the most exciting in the league.Teams know it.Teams have also worked out how to stop Crippa and Doc.Its now up to our coaching staff to work out how to fix this.

We have the makings of very exciting future.

Make the 8 would be phenomenal.

Charlie back next year, who knows what we’re capable of.
