Opinion Robbo Top 50

Ben Brown, Toby Greene and Josh Dunkley stiff to be so low.
I hope they have family and friends close by to help them come to terms with the disappointment.

Hurley probably deserves a spot.
How can anyone "deserve a spot" when this is just Robbo's fantasy about what happens next?

No Bombers is more than fair, though id say we’d have a few in the 51-100 range such is the nature of our list

Normally the Hun has quota of local big club players to put in these type of lists coupled with the fact he's a Bombres supporter, actually shows great restraint from Robbo.

I saw Tim Kelly dropped 8 spots too lol...didn't he come 3rd in the Brownlow or something!
Kelly moved out of Victoria. That’s an automatic 8 place penalty, coz there ain’t many Hun readers in WA.

Not sure you know what that word means.

I wouldn't imagine those are worth a double page spread to be chewed over by readers. In fact, I'd say most of those predictions are of zero interest to most other people. Nor do such predictions account for more than a tiny fraction of my posts.

The significance, interest and newsworthiness conferred upon Robbo's speculative doodling is just silly.

Most preseasons, various outlets will also poll their writers to predict those other outcomes i.e. premier, top 8, Brownlow, Coleman etc. Does anyone spend more than 5 minutes looking at the answers to those questions? I certainly can't imagine anyone digesting them and poring over them and debating them. Oooh but Nathan Schmook tipped Tom Hawkins to win the Coleman! Gee whizz, Mick Warner has Port as the top 8 bolter! It's one person's take on what might happen. Who cares? Move on. Same with Robbo's imagination list.

Will you start a thread and spend hours discussing this?

Putting it out there? Surely that goes with the territory when you write for a newspaper. There's no point keeping it to yourself. That's not really what the job entails.

That aside, what's to assess? It's a work of imagination. By the end of the year, most of it won't work out. Who cares?

Besides, people aren't waiting until the end of the year. They're assessing it now, which makes even less sense.

How can anyone be too high or too low in this list when it's based entirely on Robbo's projections of what might or could happen?

He could put Lynden Dunn in there and say "I reckon he's due for a big year" and there'd be no real basis for disagreement. It's not falsifiable and therefore it's silly.
I don't know, you seem to use a lot of words to argue something is meaningless and doesn't matter, yet you read it, went out of your way to discuss and question it, and continue to respond in a thread about it.

If it adds nothing for you, maybe let it go? Why respond at all?

How can he possibly think Buddy at his age and now with his injury record in recent times can possibly be in the top 10 by years end.

He’s one of the all time greats, but he’s definitely slowing down.
I mean he average 2.7 goals a game last season, yes he has injury concerns but if he gets a full run at it this year he could easily be in the top 10 players still. Hardly a howler

Lots of words!

Yes I read it. But I can't imagine debating the make-up of the list like it counts for something. It's pure silliness.

And yeah, I've expressed that view. It's not like there's some big cost associated with that. I don't need to clear my schedule to string a few sentences together.

Is that the magic rule?

If anything he’s been underrated for 18months. Had a fantastic season last year.
He is vastly overrated as a player. He's turned himself into a fantastic leader and vital part of the best team in the league but he averaged less than 20 touches and 3 tackles as a mid, without really hitting the scoreboard.

He also led or near led the Coleman after about rnd 5 whilst playing like complete dog shit.

His first 4-5 weeks were ordinary, but was still kicking goals.

Goals aren't the be all and end all for him.
Cameron kicked 8 goals in the first 3 weeks and was then held goalless the next 2 weeks after that. I agree that he shouldn't be ranked down in the mid 30's but at the same time when you look at those Robbo ranks ahead who drops down to see him climb into the teens/low 20s.

IMO I'd drop Franklin to Camerons spot, bump everyone between 11 & Sicily up 1 and then slot Cameron in around the Sicily spot.

I hope Bontempelli does not incorporate that standing at the end of the race and giving all the players low
fives before the game thing now he is captain. The virus may end that practice anyway unless they have
some hand sanitation facility built into the Richmond race so Cotchin can have a quick wash before the
game.

Whilst 32 is on the high side, it’s not the worst one. I’d have him inside the 50 too. Leadership does come into it. Bat none, the best leader in the game.

Eh. Half backs have been doing what Sicily is doing for years. He’s very good but you don’t place these players in your top 50 in the league.

There are precisely zero defenders in this league who have both the intercept ability AND the elite kicking that Sicily has.

He intercepts opposing kicks and kills you the other way.

It's a predictive list so it is hard to say it's wrong, i don't think he is number 1 at the moment and i wouldn't predict him to be number 1 at the end of the season. It's hardly a terrible opinion though and is possible if he does stay fit.

Spot on. It's also possible that Lynch will be top 10 by end of the year. Or that Sicily overtakes Grimes. Or Petracca stands up and jumps into the top 50 etc...

It's a predictive list. He can't be wrong at this time of the year.

Can also play tall and small. Can play loose and and lock down when needed.

Well it seems some people want to discuss it.

You think it's meaningless and adds no value, so I'm not sure why you would waste your valuable time continuing to comment on it, rather than letting it go.
