Player Watch Rookie Pick #45 (2015) - Dan Houston

This case is basically "is the bump illegal or not?" You can not have a system based on factors out of the responsible parties control. He shouldn't even be sent to the tribunal for an act that isn't illegal, it's a farce. Unless they come out and say that the contact was high then he should have no case to answer. Also if he did hit him high they should apologize and admit fault for not giving the free kick and reporting him.

The system is a joke and completely open to the AFL pushing whatever agenda they want at whatever time they want.

Twomey reporting Voss has made contact with Houston about a trade but suggests Carlton may only be willing to offer future picks
Well they can **** off then. It needs to be the first round for this year's draft and a future first-round pick or end of discussion. Dan has 3 years left on his contract and is best 22 in any side in the AFL.

Fk sending him to a team that’s already in there window.
Better to deal with cellar dwellers plus they have better picks.

Bucks was saying this morning on SEN that its graded as high even if that high contact was to the ground. I find that completely insane. A player can trip over his own feet and make.high contact with the ground. WTF are we even doing in this sport?
If this is actually true, I can't believe nobody is talking about it? It's an interesting wrinkle. What if a player is tackled and slides into the fence and knocks themselves out? Why does the AFL insist on introducing more gray area and interpretation into an already overly-convoluted rules system?

Dan Houston trying to calculate Isaac Rankines speed, mass and trajectory and applying every rule of physics to work out if he will be concussed as a result of his completely legal action before taking it in exactly .5 seconds.

Physics and logic don’t apply to the AFL.
There comp there rules.
You need to challenge them on a level playing field.

It’s been graded high

I can’t see in any still pic that Dan has hit him high.
Since when is a chest high?
No neck or head contact.
Take it to the Supreme Court.
That's been your guys' issue for years. Your club hierarchy don't defend your players hard enough and whilst it's the honourable thing to just ' suck it up and move on ' - it only allows the powers that be to treat you like doormats because they know they will get away with it.
This should go all the way, if only based on last years' Maynard issue. Time you flipped the AFL one big fat bird.

All Dan has to do is change his name by deed poll to Brayden Maynard, & rock up to the AFL tribunal dressed in a Collingwood polo. Not only will the tribunal find him not guilty, but they’ll also slap Rankine with a 6 match suspension for causing serious grievous harm to Houston’s mental wellbeing.

Whiplash knocked him out - not a direct head knock...

The forceful back-and-forth motion of whiplash can cause the brain to collide with the skull, potentially leading to a concussion. In high-impact collisions that cause whiplash, the force may be sufficient to cause a temporary loss of consciousness, even without direct head trauma.

You're right that whiplash causes concussion. In fact, there is a growing body of research out there that shows a concussion cannot occur without a whiplash happening in the same event.

However, this notion that the brain rattles around in the skull is an archaic model that is no longer supported by the evidence, which currently suggests it is a shearing type motion which is responsible for a concussion occuring.

How do you know when Leigh Matthews is talking shit?

His lips are moving right?

I'm surprised Ed hasn't already got Houston's defence counsel sorted. Surely given how much the bars confuses the rest of the league, a not guilty verdict is fait acompli 😉

In today's AFL, would Choppy be suspended for this although both players went at each other for the hip and shoulder?

The commentary of that incident was biased as feck.. They were blaming Byron for ‘claiming another one’ even before they saw the footage, which clearly showed Biglands initiating the bump.
