Yeah but if he has a poor year or is injured for a large part of it, at his age, the deal is going to be changed, would be negligent for them not to.
Hes got enough of a resume now that the dogs will be comfortable with what they’re getting. He’ll still love the roof and wont be getting any shorter. Plus I don’t think he’ll be on big money regardless.

So you agree with me and not the original poster that Lobbs averages alone aren't enough to go on when valuing him as a trade?

I see you still continue to try to run your cherry picking argument here.

29 year old player with 9 completed AFL seasons.

His career output after 9 seasons is a very good guide to what can be expected as far as his future output.

11 touches and a goal a game.

You're absolutely correct. I've been one of the biggest Lobb bashers on our board. However this year he was very good. To put in perspective he polled the same amount of Brownlow votes as McKay and one less than Hawkins. He polled in 4 games which would suggest that his performance as a forward was instrumental in us winning those 4 games. So I'd suggest that losing him means we maybe don't win those 4 games. Which means we don't make finals. I know it's not the perfect argument but it sheds some light as to how important he is to us. Taberner I think got 3 votes in one game for the year. Lobb is our most impactful forward right now and most likely next year as well. On paper, losing him means we miss finals next year. He's that important to us. His trade worth is irrelevant to the club.

Why would it be worse? Jones played QAFL football this year and got a 3 year contract no reason Lobb can't sit out the year not risk injury or form drop and do the same
Fair point re Jones, so I'll clarify / change
A) If Lobb chooses to sit out the year and play WAFL then yes, maybe the deal does stay the same. There is absolutely no chance he does that though
B) If Lobb half arses his prep which leads to injuries or plays poorly, I would be very surprised if your club just goes, "yeah, we understand the only reason you had a poor season at 30 years of age was because your being held against your will, here's the same deal"

Bad juju bro.
While there's a good proportion of our supporters that love trade/draft season over the actual season because there's something to be excited about, there's another lot who actually want to see us be super competitive on the field and win a flag. Bad jujuj or not. It won't make one iota of difference to players signing with us or not in the future. On field success will.

2 years in a row he’s asked to leave, don’t think he’s going to be happy to stay on this year. Bad juju bro.
He won’t be happy but he’ll be in another contract year and have to work hard for his new deal. Will probably kick 50 goals unless Amiss gets fed all of the incoming ball as he actually leads instead to standing there waving his arm for them to bomb it in.

I don’t think holding onto someone who clearly doesn’t want to be there is going to help Freo at all next year. It’ll most likely blow up in your faces.

50 goals, lol. It’s Lobb were talking about here.

It didn't this year. There's a difference between wanting it to be a disaster for Freo and it being an actual disaster.

If Lobb played for WC and he wanted out I’d have the same opinion. It’s not worth holding onto players who clearly don’t want to be there. Last year, fair enough he threw a Hail Mary and it didn’t work but he’s trying for the second year in a row and has made his intentions clear for an entire year now. His partner has moved over East, so it’s completely reasonable to request a trade and if the dogs put up a second rounder, that’s a fair price.

Its a fair price but he's contracted and clubs can hold players to contracts.

Thats not how contracts work unfortunately and Lobb plays a position difficult to fill with a 2nd rounder. Better off keeping him for another year over pick 29 imo.

With 27 now going to Port for Amon that leaves them with 8, 27 and 54 to get Rioli deal done. Doubt the eagles will want 54 and 27 is massive overs if people think Lobb is only worth 29 (now 30)
