Well in fairness that is not hard. He is suprisingly tall though...

No one at Richmond can contain Gibbs? Didn't you see what Deledio did to him in the second game last year? Even Sin admitted he beat him...then Lids switched to Judd. However I think Jackson should go with him this time.

Did you see what we did to your mob in the 1st game last year :D

I am sorry to have dragged you anywhere Jerry. There I was thinking that I was trying to construct positive debate never realising that, for you, internally inconsistent assertion is the acme of pure reason. Let me explain my further errors.
First, I thought your reference to four tall defenders injured last year (not all at the same time, but we will let that) was to support your claim that Thornton had to play on the number 1 defender. I presumed, apparently mistakenly, that you thought that had any of those defenders played, Thornton would not have had to take a key defender.

Secondly, I am almost sure you wrote: "I say Warnock is ahead of Hampson not because I necessarily agree with it, but I watch games." Now, as I have explained previously, the team I selected was the team I hoped would be selected. I am not interested in second guessing the actual selectors. When you wrote that you did not necessarily agree with Warnock being selected ahead of Hampson you were rather conceding my point on the issue.

Thirdly let me congratulate you on your "preseason" that allows your assertions, unexamined, to be accepted without apparent debate. On the strength of it I shall amend my opinion immediately and now consider Thornton, despite his inability to stop his direct opponent kicking goals, as being easily among our three best defenders. This information helpfully focuses my opinion as to where Carlton will finish at the end of the year. Any more bald assertions you make (i.e. statements made without supporting information) will be given the full weight they deserve.

Fourthly I note that you do not agree with me at all. This is most distressing. I wonder as to the composition of the team you think the selectors will pick. Surely they will not pick an injured Wiggins as your total disagreement would suggest.

Are you the legendary Mister Logic from Viz magazine?

Russel, Jamison, Joseph
Thornton, Bower, Scotland
Simpson, McLean, Walker
Waite, Setanta, Yarran
Robinson, Henderson, Betts

Kreuzer, Gibbs, Murphy

Warnock, Grigg, Carrazo, Lucas

Emg Hadley, Houlihan

I loved having four debutants for this game last year...it added to the uncertainly, and gave the kids a hell of an introduction to the top flight. For tha reason (and some OK pre-season form) Lucas gets a gig. Rest is pretty self explanatory...one thing Tiges should have is pace so Houlihan and Hadley miss out on a horses for courses selection policy.

Geez, i'll never get sick of seeing Russell in everyone's best 22's! After all he's been through, he's actually winning everyone over. Love it.

Just finished watching and laughing at the Tiges new CEO on Footy Classified.

Gale.. what a joke. A pure politician.

He says his main job is "managing expectations of the supporters"

Lied and dodged the question "has Cousins been warned". Seems he has be warned by numerous people for binge drinking over the past 12 months, and was warned for a slack effort on the training track. Somehow he says he's a "good role model". Still trying to work out the Gale logic there.

He then when on to say the Tiges will have 75k members and win 3 flags over the next 10 years which made the panelists almost burst out laughing, and even Gale had a smirk on his face after that statement. What a joke of a CEO.

:)

Oh dear this one's a keeper
Im starting to wonder whether you had a traumatic experience with the RFC as a child...

I can't imagine too many Carlton supporting posters on BF having had too many traumatic experiences associated with the RFC, no matter when they were born. Unless they were RFC supporters initially & then saw the light & moved onto the Mighty Blues.

*efa ;)

That part made me laugh too.
2 in a row...

I guess when your club starts another 5 year rebuild after the previous rebuild went down the 'shitter', you would have to laugh, otherwise you would cry.

What was it? 14 changes to the list, after 5 years of rebuilding. Now that is funny. Particularly when you consider McMahon, King, Hislop, Edwards, Rance, Simmonds, Thomson & Tuck are still on the list.

Just thought Richmond would have learnt their lesson and not appointed any more talentless politicians to crucial positions at their club. Gale's yet another one - an embarrassing performance tonight. Thought his 10-year plan was bizarre. Guess that means he won't be accountable for another 6 years - how convenient.

Add Tambling to that list as well MSR ;)

You're not allowed to use the word "rebuild" down at Tigerland anymore. The NewSpeak directive is "transformation".

:)

What I'd like to see:

B: Russell Jamison Joseph
HB: Thornton Bower Scotland
C: Simpson McLean Walker
HF: Carrazzo Henderson Yarran
F: Betts O'Hailpin Robinson
R: Kreuzer Gibbs Murphy

Int: Warnock Waite Lucas Grigg

If our midfield works hard and offers up the amount of supply they did in the practice games I can't see the Tiges having the class and size in the back half, especially when Kreuze rests forward....plenty of defensive pressure in the F50 and some class small forwards that will provide a handful too. Blues by 5 goals :thumbsu:

I think this will look more like

B: Russell Jamison Bower
HB: Thornton Waite Scotland

To me, it's clear they are going to trial JR deeper this year, last year he was more of a HB, so far this year he has been very deep so looking locked into the BP spot. I think AJ will play more midfield.

Bower loves a run too, so you may seem times where him and Thornton swap.

Will all depend on match-ups, but it wont be the intention to play Bower that deep.

Tigris, not a bad back six you've got there if you just wanted to name the best players to put down there, but defenders have to take forwards too. We're gonna need someone small and fast on Nahas, he's a pretty dangerous player. Armfield and Joseph are really the only two options to put on him.

It's probably been said already somewhere, but I think AJ will go to Deledio. We know for a fact they won't put Gibbs on him. McLean's defensive game is a joke, he couldn't pick up a man in a gay bar. So your midfield options for a match up on Deledio is quite limited.

You are right about Nahas's pace, I don't think Russell will be able to take him. If he can't they may whack Carrazzo back there. Maybe if Armfield is ready, Nahas could be the only reason they pick him.

Can't see us using Waite there first up. It will be Bower, you'd think.

Funny though have most of us have the same 22, yet given different positions the team takes on a different aspect.

Joseph Jamison Thornton
Russell Bower Scotland
Simpson McLean Robinson
Waite O'hAilpin Murphy
Betts Henderson Walker

Warnock Carrazzo Gibbs

Grigg Kreuzer Yarran (I feel we'll pull a Houlihan or Wiggins for the last spot, but hoping it to be Lucas)
I just think Warnock may take the first bounce so don't shoot me down for having him instead of Kreuzer here.

Wherever they may start up, I'd guess we all have at least 20/22 right.

No chance at all Kreuzer will start on the bench. If your hunch about Warnock in the guts just for the first bounce is right, then Kreuzer would be up forward. Also no chance of Walker in the pocket, will be wing or half back.

I'd be shocked if they dropped Houlihan. I don't love him, I'm certainly not his biggest fan, but much like Scotland, we need his superior ball use.

AJ has been used in defence all pre-season, wouldn't surprise me if he plays down there again, especially if Armfield isn't ready yet. Carrazzo or Grigg would be good options for Deledio in the middle. Out of our midfielders, onlt Judd averaged more tackles than McLean last year, he may not be a run with player but he's got quite a few strings to his defensive bow.
