Round 10 - The Sydney Swans vs. The Hawthorn Hawks

What hasn't been mentioned is how well the Hawks used their old cluster today.

They would zone very well on the G and the conditions today were very blustery, making kicking harder than normal and missing targets in their zone hurts.

As we started slowly we played catch up football and they got to use their cluster to maximum effect. The frustrating bit was we would often go wide first kick out of defence to beat it but would often miss the target and sadly to saw after Half time R.Shaw was an offender here and Heaths kicking didn't help trying to pass the zone either.

Geez, wouldn't it be great to get Plugger down to the Mighty Moore Park and do a bit of work with our JESSEALENKO :diamond:. The lad is a magnificent specimen and a throw back to the good old days when power forwards grazed in their forward fifty fiefdoms.

The Mummy is an absolute beast and along with Kennedy, their recruiting has been wonderful boon to the BLOODS.
Hanners has been named by others but what of Rohan, is his hair red or on fire. The lad is ferocious, never seems out of the contest and quite adapt in reading the unfolding play. The backline role is accelerating Rohan The Reds rapid development due to it encouraging his football instincts, the lad will be feared by the competition in years to come.:thumbsu:

Merry could yet play that classy small forward that we desperately need, a very poised footballer with silky skills.
Some very positive signs out of todays game and the ledger will be in the black again very soon. Go BLOODS.:thumbsu:

Did anyone catch on the telecast, the audio picked up the umpires' mic, and one of them was caught saying "Watch Heath Shaw, following Rioli..."

Luffy called him Heath on MMM but quickly caught himself and berated himself about it.

Result wnet as expected.
MCG, Vic team, Vic umpires - and some appalling pre-determined decisions by umpires that are looking to penalise the Swans. Malceski's HTB decision. Goodes' free. Even, in last 2 minutes, umopire at teh bounce immdeiately gives Hawks a free when it's all tied up.

We just need to accept that the umpires are frauds and have carte blanche to rort the swans.

On the positive - what a gutsy effort from a depleted team. Plu slosong Kennedy with minutes to go was critical. If that had been jesse White going up, Hawks would have got a free.

Swans will make the 8 - and every team playing us in the finals will be very nervous - until the umpires step in and kill our chances.

one of the positives for me on the weekend was that the umpiring was even-handed. Wrong occassionally, but not too bad. There were the 2 two dodgy HTB decisions in front of goal early on (the first one, Buddy actually hits Kirk in the neck causing the ball to spill to Mattner who has his arms pinned immediately and is penalised for not making an effort. Buddy is 6'6 ffs. I'd like to see the ump make an effort while being ragdolled by a behemoth like Buddy). But they were evened up to some extent by the soft free to Jesse right in front late in the game, and the strange 50m to ROK.

I thought it was an intense, finals quality game that will hold us in good stead for the next game and beyond. Our form over the 4 qtrs was much better than the previous 3 losses. We very nearly stole it. I dont like Hawthorn, but was impressed with their relentless pressure. They played the zone thing well. We broke through a couple of times but didn't always finish.
Mitchell really stepped up in the 2nd half after Kirk beat him in the 1st half. Their battle was enthralling. Jude didn't have a great day, but calls for him to retire are premature. He has been great for the most part this year. ROK is still in the doldrums. Concussion? Confidence? He just looks a bit slower or something. Getting a knee from that scumbag Campbell Brown didn't help. Karma decided to break said knee later on as payment.

I didn't have any major concerns with the umpiring yesterday. I think they probably missed a few both ways but I much prefer that to the soft, technical, over officiating we've become used to this season.

I didn't have a problem with the umpiring this week, despite the odd poor decision here and there for both sides.

Leg End you've been playing this tune for a few weeks now, but I don't really get it, nor do I buy into it. We were comprehensively beaten by Bulldogs, Geelong, Freo, and none of the umpiring in any of those games IMO had any great impact on the result. Thing is you can cherry pick incidents all day long, but so can the other side. We have had worse years with the umps, especially in the days of BBBBH.

We had a close one against the Hawks, in what I thought was a pretty evenly contested game (but Hawks were the better side). You have some agenda running against Melbourne umps, admin, etc, which is fine, but I have to say I don't see it.

Lol, just saw a short bit on the Swans on Fox News with Roosy talking up our better form with an understrength side and blah blah blah. Towards the end of the news bit the presenter said something along the lines of "Roos gave high praise to young gun Daniel Hannebery after an impressive game which included a game high 25 touches and 3 goals, comparing him to Jarrad McVeigh"...

Will be of interest to some on here..

Roos being diplomatic. It's not like he's going to come out and say: "Hannebery's the real deal, a star, puts that complacent skiver McVeigh in his place, maybe he'll learn from Hannebery what it means to work hard, to have a go and stop skating about and fumbling."

McVeigh took four years to fully settle into the senior team, and there's still question marks.

Hannebery has taken less than a season, and is already better, classier, tougher ... and he's 19.

McVeigh is over-rated. I'd be interested to know when McVeigh actually started generating the kind of statistical impact Hannebery is already achieving. Not that it matters to me.
