Prediction Round 11: Changes Vs Collingwood

After watching the Peel game yesterday, I'm going to say I think Jones should come in for the Collingwood game. I know Brody Grundy is going to kill whoever we put up against him, but if we continue to play Lobb as our sole ruckman we are going to burn him out or he will get injured then we are royally ******. Watching Cox get schooled in the ruck today whenever Lobb rested, I think we just have to have a second ruck.

I have not been a big fan of Jones in the past, but yesterday I saw a different side of him. He was really physical, burst through packs, hurt some people and actually drove the ball forward from stoppages - sometimes with a couple hanging off him. My theory is let him bang into Grundy in the middle all day, with Lobb as the backup ruck / forward. That means dropping a tall forward, but honestly we can't have two guys like Hogan and Cox who barely influence the contest in the forward line. They are both well below their best, but for me Hogan has the runs on the board and the opposition will pay him far more attention than they will Cox. So I'd drop Cox and play Hogan and Lobb as the tall forwards.

The other one I'd look at is bring Nyhuis back in as a defender and get Connor back into the midfield - he looked lost in defence and really impacted in the midfield in the last. To fit Nyhuis in I'd be resting Andy Brayshaw or Ed Langdon - they rest next week, then the bye so that is a big freshen up for someone.
We do need to give Jones an opportunity sometime, and this game does make some sense. I actually really like how Lobb is playing, and accept he won't be a dominant ruck, but he provides a lot of other points of difference for us around the ground.

Unpopular opinion - thought Hogan was quite good today. Battled hard against a very very good KPD in Andrews, and often brought the ball to ground and opened up the forward line.
First game playing true deep forward as #1 for us so there’s that too.

I would be very worried about Jones I’m against Grundy , look at last year’s game for example. Hope Lobb is fine.

Bennell in
Matera, Conca or Tucker out. Probably Conca.

Reshuffle a little - more of Blakely and Cerra in middle. With the Pies engine room we need all hands on deck.

Our numerous medium sized defensive options should be quite useful against a forward line like they have, and AP and Hamling should be ok against Mihocek and Reid.

0% chance. If all things go well, then hopefully first game back after the bye. People are kidding themselves even thinking Harley has a chance of playing for us next week. Jones too.
Hey guys, congrats on the win today! It was really exciting to watch.

Do you think Bennell will be an inclusion next week? I'm pretty keen to see him back to AFL.

Pretty exciting thought that one of the game's best talents could be back into your side within a matter of weeks.

I look forward to hopefully watching him produce a solid second half of the season!

Personally I would bring in Bennell. Yes he has to probably play a few in the WAFL but why waste his talent in the WAFL to see him possibly play like 6 games and then go down with injury. It’s a give him a go and if he goes down again that’s it. Cut the line but he has enough talent to improve the team. Especially in the middle

No changes. Though I can't wait for the returns of SHill, Bennell, and hopefully Sandi. All three would improve us massively, obviously.
S Hill will have to go the Peel route too unfortunately. He’s been out nearly a whole year. Be stupid to get him fit, again, and throw him out there too soon, again.

Yeah, I think you're right. I hope they will both be back for the derby though. Would give us a nice chunk of games in the back end with them in.

if were going to drop brayshaw it would have been after the GCS game where he was putrid. While i worry about how much impact he has, he isn't a negative and seems to be getting better each week with his composure.
Agree, thought his decision making was much improved, great kick to Fyfe for his goal. There were far fewer awful disposals which indicates the game is slowing down for him.

Logue ran out the Peel game and had a great last quarter . Logue in and Blakely to full time mid. Hard to find anyone to drop though. Duman,Conca,Hughes all had there moments.
Bewley last man in but he also had his moments. Bewley surprised me after his Peel form, must like the big stage to perform.

People saying to drop Hogan for Jones or Meek is staggering. Yeah hogan is out of form, but every kick to him yesterday was to Harris Andrews advantage - who by the way is one of the best defenders in the league.

I’d love them to pull the Bennell trigger, but past exp says we won’t.

Also think Duman was good and seems to improve every week.

I’d drop Hughes for Nyhius if DeGoey is playing. If not, no changes.

Would that be your ideal match-up for de Goey?

I would quite like Nyhuis in because I think they have a terrific forward line, but think Hughes (and our defence generally) is doing ok.

Pearce takes Miochek
Hamling takes Reid
Ryan takes Thomas (can damage more on spread)
Duman takes Stephenson (Duman quicker)
Think Nyhius needs to come in

Hughes will get destroyed by DeGoey.
They might play Cox and drop Willis. In which case we need another tall

If the cautious approach for Harley hasn't worked in the past, can they just slot him in and give him a crack.

And would like to see our key forward bring the attitude and effort of someone like Switta.

I go to every game and have a good close seat - first tier 14 rows back cheersquad side of the centre square so I cant see all the game but i do see the little bits and pieces around the ball and hear the talk between the guys so hopefully I can give some input.

No changes apart from giving Brayshaw a rest and run North or Banfield. Finally cox attacked the footy but 70% of the game he seems to go in second gear.

He isnt very vocal at all but when he does call that he is in the area to mark it then 9 times out of 10 he does. A few times near my wing he got in the way then other times he called it, you saw the players block for him and he beats his man to the mark. He needs some mongrel about him.. really get vocal. If he gets that in his game he will be a star.

Brayshaw doesnt really have alot of awareness of whats around him, he is another one who silently goes in for the ball but once he has got it he usually handballs to the first voice he hears. Sometimes it works but alot of the time its a hospital handball. He needs a game or two to get his awareness up but he has the ability to get the ball and get rid of it very well which is a huge tick.

Fyfe is a great example as he always looks around before he gets it and angles his run away from the tackle and is ready to fend off from any side. Hence why he gets the ball away even if tackled because he is aware and gets his body ready for whats happening. In person its amazing to watch him as he always plays two steps ahead.

As much as I want to see North this may be the wrong week to debut him given they have pendles/sidebottom/treloar/beams and Grundy; you could probably throw phillips in that bunch as he is very good... he may well get torn apart and ruin his confidence.

But being said some players step up when they have better players around him and he seems to have the WAFL level of footy covered after over coming injury and only turned 20 in Feb.

You can ask about players if any of you like and if I see much of them from my wing.

Would drop Hogan after another putrid outing. If the club is serious about making people earn their spots Jesse should be sent to Peel until he's tearing it up down there. I don't wanna hear the whole "He's a big name so he's automatically best 22" ********. The way he's playing he does not deserve to be in our best 22. The only way he'll learn is by making him earn his way back up. Bring in Jones to play ruck so Lobb can move to FF. Have Cox play the CHF role and let Jesse play at Peel until he can actually start pulling his head in. Would personally bring in Bennell this week but I know they won't.

IN: Jones
OUT: Hogan
I suspect Jesse is injured and has been compromised for a few weeks. His output with only 8 handballs, one mark and no kicks and no metres gained means he should immediately be having a MRI on his foot if he hasn't had one in the last three weeks.

His leads were terrible as well, either just standing still or leading on an angle away from the ball which made it easy to get picked off looked to be his foot couldn't push off the ground and acceleration was a problem. Posters are blaming this on the kick in but Walters doesn't usually make those mistakes, Jesse just didn't lead or went slow and away from ball.

Personally I'd love to see Bennell back as well, and if they're not monitoring Jesse with MRI's would be very concerning.

I think Hughes is a better matchup for Mihocek. We don't want Mihocek dragging Pearce up the ground.
Agree about Nyhuis however. DeGoey and Stephenson are the worries with their speed. Not sure who Wilson will get..

Whilst I agree with you on Bennell. Jones would have to be considered, especially if Mason Cox plays.

Before yesterday’s game I was keen for Brennan Cox to play relief ruck but everytime he went in the middle we got totally smashed. Can you imagine B. Cox vs Grundy or Mason Cox. If Mason doesn’t play then I think Brennan should cope against their relief.

Unless Cox plays, Pearce gets Mihocek. He’s a power forward, Hughes would get destroyed & heavily outmuscled. He’s have like 10+kegs on him

A few things I would like to see at some point:

More midfield minutes for Connor, we saw yesterday that he impacted the game in the last quarter, although to some extent he was fresher than those around him.

With our current forward players, more forward minutes for Mundy, he is a great leader and also could use a bit of rest time. I would like him to be the freshest midfielder in the last quarter.

Duman used further up the ground. I feel like we have other options at half back (Nyhuis), and he might be a tall, mobile high half forward or wing.

Continuing to use Brennan for ruck work in forward 50, and use Lobb to keep the ball in, which he did magnificently yesterday.

Having said those things, I don’t have a problem if we go in unchanged next week.
