There are excuses, and then there are factors. Missing all those guys, absolutely key guys....that's a factor right there. Do we want to pin this loss on injury? No. Geelong played really well, and strategically we were in the palm of their hand. Regardless of who we were missing, we had to execute a LOT better than we did. You're right there. But we really were missing some key guys, and I think it's hard to move past that as at least being a factor, not an excuse.

Of course there are factors but we have won games without murphy, JJ, wood, Stevens, Crameri, McLean. Being without Dahlhaus hurt the midfield sure but the one thing every player can bring is pressure and work rate and to me that's what stood out.

All the people saying we got out coached if you look at our zone the number one non-negotiable is pressure the ball carrier to cause average kicks for us to intercept or allow a third man up that's where we broke down in my opinion no pressure meant they transitioned the ball too easily and isolated one on ones or found players out the back. Not bringing pressure in my opinion is inexcusable

In all honesty, and although I couldn't catch the game (was probably a good thing), this loss really highlights our over-expectation of this Dogs outfit. I'm getting the vibe that it was an insipid performance, albeit with a few stepping up, but injuries do play a big part in a team's season, especially when it's at the level which our have been. We simply have been overrating the capabilities of this (fit) list, thinking that we are the best young team ever in the modern era, because that is the level of expectations some of our fans have, and I'll nominate myself for that too. And, to be honest, a few crappy performances within a 9-4 season is understandable for a team whose most influential (fit) player is 20! I think we should start to reevaluate the pass mark for this season given what has happened so far, especially considering our injury-riddled list. IMO, making the top 4 is a huge, huge effort, and that should be the ultimate goal. Thinking that we can win the flag is delusional, but so is the mindset that we're playing so poorly that we'll struggle to make the eight. Just my 2 cents from prowling this autopsy.

Who are you replacing mitch with right now out of the VFL team?

Webb, Stevens when he returns, Dalhaus will be back. Give Jong a run. Sometimes a player needs a kick up the arse.

We have too many blokes that arnt up to it and when things get really tight they go missing.

Then when u miss the players we have out the others can't carry the rest.

Legitimatey 7-9 players out there tonight threat arnt up to it

The only positive - the only one - I can take out of the game is that our players who are out of the best 22 and playing cause of injury - were the ones who played awful.

Biggs, Honeychurch, Dunkley and Redpath were all terrible and you think that they come out of our team when finals come around.

Wallis just hasn't been that good this year. Very very poor again tonite.
Yes and no fronk. Didn't win much of the ball on the outside but he actually was part of the reason why we did well in the stoppage in the third quarter.

Let's start a new rebuild then cause off that figure and the fact you don't rate hrovat among others 25% or more of the list needs to go

They just worked so much harder, when looked like getting a break they just held us up. Not sure how a team 2 years older than
us can do that. And our centre clearances were horrible- except when Stringer was in there

Don't know what peeps are expecting from Wallis, he's the same player he was and is always going to be, it's just there's less midfield possessions to go round now.

We need to get Hurley. We won't win a flag with the likes of Roberts in the team.

Build the backline around him and Adams.

We should be chasing Jenkins too. If we have to make some hard calls to make it happen so be it. Our talls are simply not good enough.

Our team is slow without jj and wood, we need to draft some raw speed ASAP.

Campbell needs to get his fitness and ability to be mobile around the ground. His ruck work is good, he can clunk a mark and he is physical in ruck duals with opposition rucks but when you compare his ability to get involved in marking contests around the ground and win 15+ possessions and be part of chains of play it's just not there yet. Hopefully over time it will but that's limiting him from taking the next step.

Wallis is a significantly better footballer than Webb and Jong. Its not close. He's also better than Koby.

Picking mitch wallis out of the hat to be dropped tonight is unfair. He's playing a forward flank when he's an inside mid. The unfortunate reality of the situation is that we have too many clearance mids to fit them all in.

Did anyone else see Tory Dickson's interview the other week saying because of our bad goal kicking we recently started to do goal kicking practice in-between sessions instead of at the end of training, so the goal kicking practice is done under fatigue like it would in game.

What the hell? This IS common sense in 2016. Even 6-7 years ago we heard how most clubs (esp Pies and Saints etc) were talking about doing goal kicking practice under fatigue to simulate match conditions. Yet we just started to do this midway through 2016? Which is probably only because we were forced to review our training methods because of our pathetic kicking for goal the last 2 years.

Re-pasting from gameday thread:

More inside 50's yet we were smashed. But that's nothing new. Our conversion has been terrible all year.

So after losing a final last year because of bad goal kicking did we bring in a legit goal kicking coach? Nup. We just expect Gia (who had the yips his whole career) to teach the boys something he could never fully master in 14 years of football.

I love Gia but I still question throwing a player straight into the deep end as a line coach, when all other clubs have a pathway for their coaches, Part time > Development coach > line coach etc. Even potential Hall of Famers like Mathew Scarlett, Simon Black, Brett Kirk, Brent Guerra and Chris Newman all had to do apprenticeships as development coaches.

But we just give Gia full responsibility of our forward line without any coaching experience. Why?

Are you Carlton's salary-cap manager from the late 90's early 00's?

Bitt harsh on Red - first bad game this year Biggs usually is handy but does seem to have dropped off this year

If the cats can land Dangerfield and Henderson in one off season we can make it happen. Like I said, if we have to sacrifice something to improve our bookends so be it. They aren't good enough.

Yeah and I think most lists have an amount of blokes at the same level

Put JJ Wood Stevens Crameri Dahl in and the number of blokes not good enough tonight decreases

IMO we are still 4-5 blokes off a flag

And I don't have to rate Hrovat he doesn't play
