Preview Round 13 - Haw v WCE - 21/6 @ ES

I'll go to sleep tonight pretty content with that performance, obviously would have been stoked with a win but I was pleased with the lift in most aspects of our game. And I thought we really challenged Hawthorn, but 20 points basically summed the game up. They were a class above but we caused them some problems and didn't make it easy, unlike earlier this season. Cox's disposal probably cost us not a win, but maybe 2 goals in the end. For what it's worth (very little I guess), a few things of note:

1. Gaff doesn't need to go back to the WAFL to learn to break a tag, I have rediscovered why I had a huge man crush on him. We look a lot better when he's our postman.
2. Brown's marking is questionable above his head, and his decision making isn't the best around. Other than that, couldn't fault him.
3. Waters' decision making is average. My heart beats faster every bloody time he has the ball.
4. Rosa hasn't been the same this year.
5. Shuey/Scooter/Masten/Gaff is a damn good midfield combo. +Wellingham and maybe Newman
6. I feel sorry for anyone who has to play on Kennedy.

That's bullshit, the hawks played awesome footy, that effort would taken it out of them.

Not really, played in bursts like we pretty much have all year. We got hammered in the clearances and inside 50s, if we were playing awesome that wouldn't have happened. I would say you guys played exceptionally well.

Umpiring favoured Hawks. We got pinged for 2 HTB that they been letting go all year and they got goals.

Not the reason we lost though.

Poor decision making and Cox helped us lose that game. Seriously had enough of him playing for frees and doing little else around the ground like he used to do.

Really disappointed. We started pretty well but early on every time they went forward they kicked a goal. Then they really got on top in the second quarter and already at that stage looked home. It was good to see us fight it out all the way but we never looked like winning after they got out to that comfortable lead.

Not that I disagree or agree (thought it was pretty evenly umpired), but that proves nothing. We had the majority of possession, and won three quarters. Both teams had free kicks missed, I don't think there were many unwarranted decisions paid. Had no impact on the game.

Should have gotten 3 or 4 more infront of goal. There were some very very shocking calls throughout the game. Incredibly inconsistent, however I feel that hawthorn got alot more paid in their favour while ours were missed

Got to explain this to some people.
It's not how many you get...it's the effect of the ones you get and the ones you don't that you should have.

These ALL favoured you and you made the most of it.

Didn't cause us to lose the game but gave you some goals they shouldn't have.

They'll always be useless and for us to complain is rich. We get a good run with them.

Hawks outplayed us, defence was a shambles at times and the mids just lack the class.

But I walk away proud tonight, there was some heart and intensity shown. That hasn't been evident at all in 2013

Not much the defenders can do on a fast break from a turnover up the ground. They were moving the ball so fast, and they have some very good, dangerous forwards.

the hawks fwds are tough to defend against and they made the most of their opportunities plus they had a lot of luck with the way the ball was bouncing as well

Can only dream. It will be tough. The 3 home loses of carlton, port and tigers were just stupid. Hawthorn were always penciled in at the start of the year to win this game. Lets hope essendon have a poor 2nd half of the year and we can get 2 wins there .

As someone observed we won three quarters and most of the stats favoured us. Maybe Hurn going off in the second quarter was the difference. They kicked 6.2 in the second to our 4 points in that quarter. That cost us the game.

NN is awesome but it would be great if he took some more marks 2 is not enough. Cox took 10 and he missed a number. Darling did not take enough marks he took 4 with 1 goal but JK took 10 with 5 goals. How do we get another JK? McGovern!!!!!!! Get it done. Darling = big bodied midfielder.

Yes Corrected. But losing such an important defender would have had a huge impact. He is also an important part in setting up attacks. It would have unsettled the team.
