I was a big fan of Witts and always had him ahead of Grundy but I thought that despite Witt's form, Grundy was always the preferred option by Buckley and the selection committee.

This part was true.

Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley has taken to Twitter to concede that he overstepped the mark during a fiery boundary line exchange with ruckman Jarrod Witts.

A furious Buckley grabbed Witts by the jumper and gesticulated fiercely during the third quarter of his side's 29-point loss to Hawthorn at the MCG on Saturday afternoon.
And that’s why Buckley wasn’t a particularly good coach.
Look at how Fly deals with players down on form, or have made a mistake that’s cost us.

he was good enough to get us to within a kick of a flag which is something people seem never to want to acknowledge when talking about his time as our coach

people her were happy to trade witts and keep grundy at the time. just because grundy has now left the club doesnt change the fact that he was a multiple AA and a fantastic player for us while he was here. something people seem to want to forget

Jamie Elliot said in his last stream that everyone knew how good Witts is/was/could be. It was just that he and Grundy didn't fit in the same team together and one was slightly preferred over the other.

It wasn't a spud vs superstar scenario.

Should have been having a shot after the siren too. Got lucky that the umps didn’t see that high contact with 11 seconds left. View attachment 1722201
Maybe, but if you watch the play just before on the wing, Markov goes low to collect the ball and is taken high. You can see Nick Daicos indicating high to the umpires. So if the free was paid, we would of gone forward and iced the game.

Seem to recall that the year before he went to Gold Coast, Sydney wanted him and were prepared to offer their first, but he was reluctant to go there.

That was Witts' 1st game back after his finger injury. He was played as a KPF for most of that game, giving Grundy an occasional chop out. He is not now nor was he then a KPF. Buckley's frustration, if that was even the match, was just as likely in being forced into that situation due to Moore and Cloke being unavailable, leaving Witts and Jessie White as our only options. And we got spanked by Melbourne. But don't let your desperation to make it something more than that get in the way of the truth.
Witts and White in the key forward positions! Those were the days, though we are still trying to fill those holes.

It was in terms of the picks with which we traded him to Gold Coast.

Reflecting on today’s game I should have included IQ, Bruzzy and Mitchell among our best.
Also reflecting on how as a supporter I bring 50 years of baggage into every game and never feel comfortable when we have a lead.
The last year and a half have been the most joyous seasons I’ve witnessed. We’ve done extremely well this year so far given the regularity of injuries and different line ups we’ve had to use. Bloody love this club.

We are a bit vulnerable in the middle without JDG
Crisp should be the one we can throw in when we need some pace and a big body
But he seems a bit off the pace this year
I think we need to train Beau to play in the mid field. Just for emergency, if we need someone in there for a stint like in the 3rd quarter today

Gee just watched the last quarter again. Those Noble moments were massive. But likewise Markov in pretty much the same passages of play.

Also, no doubt Dawson got taken high. But you wouldn't know it if not for the blood or for that screenshot on the previous page of this thread. It happened so fast you can't see s**t... I wouldn't have called it if I was the umpire because when watching live, knowing it was going to happen, I could still barely see it!

Quietly i reckon we were lucky. Strangely from my view in the olympic stand my first reaction was he's got him high and we'd ****ed it. Then I saw it again on the telecast and it didn't look as bad! Anyway, I swear with a few minutes to go I saw Rankine throw a perfect rugby pass that was bizarrely missed!

You're extrapolating Grundy's last 6-7 games of the season where he started to actually dominate as his form for the season. He was overlooked for the round 1 team because Witts was performing better. If Witts finger injury hadn't gotten infected and prolonged his absence Grundy likely would have been dropped at times through the season. That he started to find some form before Witts returned doesn't now nor then make him "streets ahead". Your attempt to rewrite history is just laughable.

2016 preseason aside, Grundy was miles ahead of Witts in 2015 in all stats. In fact Collingwood offered him the opportunity to return to his home state and play for the giants…. But he opted to stick out his contract and ended up at the suns instead a year later. There’s no guarantee he would had passed Grundy even if he’d been selected in round one 2016. It’s fanciful to imply that.

They were both specialist first rucks with limiteD kpp ability. Very long odds of them suceeding in the same 22 despite many goes at it in 2015. It’s a shame but something had to give and at the time Grundy was the far superior player.

That 3rd quarter was bad, but we didn’t help ourselves by missing 2 sitters, which could have stemmed the tide. Both shots were gettable, one from Cameron and the other l can't recall, thinking maybe WHE?

Mihocek.

EDIT: Sorry yes Crisps was even more of a gimme.

The Crows fans talking about umpiring decisions…
They were +10 in round 7 against us in what was the worst game of umpiring …so much so they had to come out and issue a statement after getting slammed by all and sundry.

So they can’t beat us when they get the umps, can’t beat us when it goes against them …yet they’re salty.

It’s a crazy world out there.

Just loving the whinging about how the Crows were robbed all over Facebook, and other places. Gives me such joy.

What a rollercoaster of a game though.
