Autopsy Round 16, 2022: Giants drown the Hawks

I'm nowhere near as disappointed in that game as some. I thought we battled hard but our forwards were off this week. Our mids stepped up though so hopefully they can keep that going and we put a full game with the full team together soon.

We are an almost team right now, I feel we are so close to clicking all at once.

CMac had some positive plays early, Newcombe tried hard, Butler had some promising moments.

Hardwick was fantastic and well supported by Blanck.

Day was looking very sharp early.

Forwards having a lean patch. Always love Lewis getting back and looking to get involved, hard for him in the wet today.

Still don't understand how Kosi gave away that holding free, they never showed it again.
Lewis tried hard. Had the second most pressure acts of all Hawks.

Morrison was great all day. Hardwick excellent and Newc, Blanck, Mitch and Moore were pretty good. Shocking game. We have so many dumb players who just don’t do the basics well. Forward line pathetic, play in front boys, so frustrating to watch.

Another okay first quarter and that's it for the game. Was hoping for a better performance from last week but that wasn't the case.

Better game by Sicily, more energetic and lively. I missed Sam Frost. I reckon if he's playing it will be fun to watch in this condition. Also liking Blanck game as well.

Thank duck that’s done

We can blame the conditions but I think it’s deeper than that. I don’t have a problem losing games because rebuilding and all that and today they had far more talent than the hawks, but there doesn’t seem to be any systems in place or if there is they dissolve at the first sign of pressure.

Maybe the boys are just tired and they can see the finishing line but I also think there’s a few senior players that need to take stock because some of the efforts today and last week have been quite disappointing

Scapegoat Harry had a good game and Jai continued on with his hard work

On to next week but based on today I’m thinking it’s going to be a tough few weeks and we need this season to finish

Early draft picks looking good

No working midfield structure.

A shambolic defensive display.

No clear coaching instructions or obvious tactical changes throughout the game.

And forwards who looked completely at sea, and were scragged, tackled and utterly beaten all day.

Opposition did as they pleased with virtually no frees against.

Umpiring was bizarre.

Stands were empty.

Commentary set a new low. Mind-bogglingly shit.

Apart from that I thought the game was excellent.

Ugly game that we were never going to get too much from.
We were sucked in to the frantic energy and game style and didn't adjust throughout the game as the Giants did.
Harry played another great game and I cannot wait for CMac to build his midfield tank, he showed a lot at times.

The defensive workrate from some of our players is questionable at the best of times, today it was downright abused.

Really hoping we can shift our mindset and our approach leading into three winnable games- we've got to go bloody hard in them.

On a positive note: at least now I get to drink until I have a headache and watch Lewis Hamilton inevitably break another a record at Silverstone tonight and wake up tired and uninspired for the next week of work.:drunk:

First half was ok , just didnt take our chances and the standard 'red time' goals meant a good lead was a deficit .
Forwards looked non threatening and our forward pressure was poor .

2nd half we never looked like it .
They played a better organised game than we did

And we let another Ronke appear from the abyss . We seem to have this happen often over the past 5 years .

Worse is our winnable game next week may be tough on our heavy legs after today .

Worpel being injured sucks. Played well last week. Then 2 clearances and injured. Reads like he started well.

I only caught the last quarter. And I’m sure we might have played better earlier but what I watched was painful. Mitchell kicks the footy like it’s full of cement.

8 marks to Hogan and 4 to Brown (who?!) compared to 2 for Lewis and 0 for Kozzi and 1 for Gunston pretty much says it all.
The weather can’t be the only reason. Total lack of talent, composure, skill and intent from pretty much everyone.

This has to almost be Gunstons last year right? Him and Shiels are struggling hard. Not sure what it is but our veterans seem to be struggling a lot more than the league wide vets of similar ages.
Add Wingard to that duo and to a lesser extent JOM.

Yeh it's weird watching players like Hawkins sitting 3rd on the Coleman at 33 years old but as soon as our vets hit 30 they seem to fall of the cliff.

I don’t have a good feeling about next week.
