Yeah I thought we got a decent ride yesterday with the umpires.
Which is not to say we got the rub of the green. I think it was fairly well umpired on the whole.

I just know that when I am not screaming hysterically at the TV when the umps make a call (which I wasn't yesterday) that they must have been okay and not overly one sided.

Our mids lineup and Max King prepares to be on the receiving end only for the inside 50 kick to miss him by 15 metres. With zero opposition or pressure. Max was clearly like WTF dude. As soon as I saw it a I thought it’s going to be a long day.

The connection with King is way off. Poor timing on the kick ins, wayward kicks, poorly flighted. He is doing it tough at the moment.
This made me laugh.

For me it's the calls they make or don't make in pivotal situations within the game that determine which side got a better run from the umpires. I thought we got our fair share of those types of calls so I didn't really notice the -7 loss in frees yesterday. If they were gifted a few goals from frees and we weren't then it would be much different, though.

Wasn’t pretty but a satisfying win for me. Did what we had to do. Would’ve liked a bigger margin but we are struggling with our inside 50s. Tighten that up and we’ll be a harder team to play against.

Windhager really good. Steele really good. Not many bad performances. Maybe the ground itself. Horrible.

That surface wasn’t fit for any sport.

Insane that after back to back premier league friendlies to have a game scheduled on day 3.

Not a fan of Sharman across half back. I can see why. But i don’t see the benefit.

We have done well in the draft last season. Windhager has star written all over him. Probably unlucky not to have a goal at the end which would have guaranteed his Rising star nomination. (But I don’t blame butler for making sure)

Thought Clark showed things and you can see how much balance he brings to the side when he plays. Still so far off the surface of his potential.

There is the potential to do another 2019 trade period and move a number of players in and out.

You have to look at ways to bring in the likes of De Goey and Taranto whilst potentially moving on from the likes of Jones Billings this summer.

Thought Butler has been in our best 5 since the break. Real improvement and adds a point of difference when he is in this form.

Lastly, our first half of the season was built on efficiency of our forward 50 entries/converting. If we want to continue kicking it to king. Can we Atleast only do it when he is on the move. Rarely will you see him win a wrestle against seasoned defenders at this point of his development.
Heard on the radio that an u18s game was initially scheduled on it before our game too.

At least they called that off.
Would've been ropeable had there been a major injury.
Ratts was pretty reserved in his comments in the presser but hopefully they made their feeling known strongly to the AFL.
Said they could see it was going to be a problem from walking around before the game.
OH&S issues, surely?

Surfaces where you can feel it move under foot are dangerous in any sport.

In our sport where you literally need to pivot at a single moment. its horrific. Apparently and I only say that as it came from a text.

The Club feel Greshams sore knee came from the turf moving under him.

I have very flexible morals. I would promise not to complain.
The Bulldogs fans don't (complain.)
Also having that extra bye added before the finals ( first time ever) was a huge bonus for their injured players.
People will disagree, but they had the rub of the umpiring green in every finals game they played.

Wouldn't be at all surprised. The one side was a bog apparently and the other side a bit better. Was atrocious.
Hope Gresh is going to be OK. Sounds like it was a precautionary move - lets hope so.

I’m still very hopeful of Clark becoming a mid next year if he can get a run with injuries. He doesn’t solve the bigger mid type though. Maybe de goey does.
No but he's dynamic and dual sided. His dual sidedness is such a weapon as is his creative handballing. There was one left foot kick he made yesterday that opened the ground up and kead to a goal. He'll get there as long as he can stay injury free.

Hundred per cent they should have never have gotton into that grand final. The giants were robbed, I have never seen such one sided umpriing let alone in a final then in that pre lim.

I think much of our skill level yesterday and our missed handballs was due to the ground condition. Like It is very difficult to move and position your feet and legs when you are about to slip over. Makes it very to difficult to defend as well. I think it very much showed

He is dual sided. Sometimes I do wish though he would straighten up and kick on his right foot

Never seen a better final. They beat WC away, they beat the three time premiers, they beat the AFL team GWS away, then they won the flag.

One of the greatest finals campaigns I have witnessed. Hated every second of it as my whole family are Buldog fans, but boy I admired it.

Not diminished in my eyes one little bit.

I want other teams to admire us when we win it. Not be wrapped up in debate and controversy. I don't want to have to be defending the saints and arguing every 5 minutes but rather be (semi) humbly agreeing that "**** yeah we are a bloody good team this year and there's a good chance we win again"

It was dimminshed in my eyes because the umpiring was so clearly favouring the dogs, It was so blatent. The GF year fine, but the Giants were absolutely cooked by the umps.

I hardly know any bulldogs supporters but the 2 or 3 I do know love it when people say they got the rub of the green. I’m happy to win a grand final with 100 frees to nil and opposition having 21 injured players on the day and still only win by a point.

This is built on a false assumption - that it is possible that we could win it and not have someone begrudge us the success.

There’s clearly something going on with Jones. He was never the most consistent but his best the last couple of years was extraordinary and he hasn’t been anywhere near that level this year. You can’t just throw someone like him away after one ordinary year, there’s probably more in his mental health break at the start of the year then we realized. Probably stuffed up his preseason. If he can get that right he’ll be an important player in an area of the ground that we’re ordinary in.

Nothing to get overly excited about in this game. Windhager is exciting, wouldn’t mind a higher contested number if I’m being picky but showed some awesome signs. I’ll wait another couple of years before I get too carried away though.

Dermott is normally hard to listen to but he made a great point that we often retain possession of the ball after Clark disposes of it, one of the very few we have that we can say that about. He really is a class player left or right. Even found a way to defend Darling one on one.

I like Byrnes in the team. He’s super quick and apart from a couple of ordinary kicks last week he uses the ball well left and right. Finding more of the ball lately too.

Still have serious issues transitioning the ball from the back half which results in bombs into the forward 50. Still staggers me that we bring in all these Hawthorn people and this is the best plan they can come up with.

No finals this year so all I’ll be really interested in is how the young guys go.

Weirdly half of Clarks kicks seemed to be resulting in turnovers yesterday. Dermot says stuff that makes me scratch my head most of the time. Hunter does seem to make a messy loose ball look neat though. He's definitely got very nice skills generally.

I definitely disagree on the umpiring being decent. I'm not the type of supporter that can't ever credit the umpires and thinks they're gambling on us losing every game, but I thought that game was umpired terribly. So much so that I was thinking of watching the replay and cutting together how many bad calls or non calls there were. I definitely have to do that now, so at least if I'm wrong I prove myself wrong. I'll post it here. I don't think it all went against us, West Coast was hard done by a few times, but it was overall quite poor most of the time.

I don't put the blame entirely at the umpire's feet, either. The rules are a convoluted mess that require umpires to look in four different places at once and leave a lot to discretion. It's just hard to swallow poorly umpired games, when you have umpiring like Richmond vs Freo which was generally so good that even if you had a first doubt about a call, you'd notice the umpire read the situation better than you did. There was one of those calls yesterday, which was the non-mark to King/Barass (i think it was?), outside of that, not so fantastic.

I’ve been so down on the Saints the last few weeks I’m pushing back on letting them make me feel happy.

I have this weird thing where it's like jumping back in to bed with a girl that gave you an STD, you know it's going to be fun, but getting involved again isn't without painful consequences. I want to be back on board but I need a few drinks to suspend my better judgment.

You can cure an std. there is no cure being a saints fan.
