When Ryan Burton was dropped earlier in the year I was really surprised. Always rated him.

Sat higher up that I normally do last night and can now see why.

Dumb positioning and quite a few subtle soft moments. He has become very adept at the looking like he's trying but not really because it's too hard type efforts.

Loose and disrespectful to his direct opponent. Sets up to be in selfish spots.

I've got faith in him, super talented and great skills, but also think accountability should be coming thick and fast.

Just finished it, hell of a game of football.

We lost this one with those missed shots in the 2nd and 3rd. Todd's from 20m odd out in particular was absolutely brutal. When you have the run of play against Collingwood you simply have to make every shot count. We gave our forwards much better looks over the game but Collingwood's forwards just made gold from s**t - Josh Daicos on the boundary, Elliott from similar, nerves of steel and made the most of their opportunities. It was the only difference in a game in which by most metrics we were probably a little better.

Effort was there all game though and you can't fault that, a little bit of luck and a bit more composure (lot of dropped marks in the last quarter too) and we win.

One I want to point out is Lachie Jones... had a big "almost" game. Has shown now without doubt he has the talent to be a premiership player, but silly errors from him probably cost us 3 goals. He'd be the one that really needs to spend a lot of time with the coaches afterwards to actually go through his decision-making in big moments. Looks really good at times, but when he goes bad its costly, and he can't afford to do that kind of stuff in a big final.

Another thing is this was the best umpired game I've seen us play this year. Genuinely down the line and let the players play for the most part. We've been hammered a lot this year (and have had a couple go our way) so I think its worth pointing it out when they actually do a good job, even if it seems like once in a blue moon.

Fair call on the umps, there were a few things that annoyed me, but I'm sure there were things that annoyed Collingwood supporters. We did have at least one free in the second half, JHF's tackle on Maynard.

Lachie Jones will take mark of the year one day. Some of those leaps would have set off NORAD. He does make mistakes, but mainly when he is providing cover defence for team mates. And he is our best cover defender with his pace and athleticism. He's played a handful of games and some were already considering him a bust not so long ago. His game has improved exponentially and looks to be continuing.

Our defence with these young guys looks so much stronger than when Jonas is there. Sorry TJ.

Our loss tonight was because of softness and zero edge when games are close.

It is magnitudes worse than the Carlton loss because at least that game was legitimately because we didn't try.

But our issues of last night's loss are not fixable. That's why it hurts. And it will continue hurting until a big change in the guard and culture.

Sorry to be controversial but you can’t put that loss down to Hinkley
Agree, we can't have it both ways. If we believe Josh is coaching which I do then he takes the wins & the losses. As far as losses go though it was a great loss under the circumstances. How we got that close with Dixon, Lycett, Boak, Wines physically stuffed, Duursma & Burton looking like they are carrying injuries & McKenzie & JHF just coming back from injury. Add in how awful McEntee & Evans are we should have lost by 4+ goals.

Just watched the Hinkley post game presser. His glass half full approach and blind optimism is exactly why he needs to be replaced. He has conflated the idea of a one goal loss in a game that could have gone either way as being just as meritorious as winning that same game by a goal.

They're doing a lot right, and to suggest otherwise would be ignorantly foolish. But there's a killer instinct that this team lacks which all of the top teams in history have. And until they can fix that (and imo they won't fix it under Ken) they are going to be forever the bridesmaid.

And it's a theme of this groundhog day regime.

Hinkley's words mirror all of the opposition supporters in this thread and even some of our own supporters talking about unluckily losing a coin flip of a game.

We've already lost three knockout finals under this loser by a goal or less. Two prelims. Two at home. To go with the mountain of similar high stakes home and away losses, mostly at night, at home, against good teams. It's not luck when it happens again and again and again.

Just sack this loser.

Yeah I think this is one of those games where as fans we can take the good out of it and not be too unhappy with the effort or result.

But the players and coaches should be furious they just let 4 points go and should be going through it with a fine tooth comb to rectify it.

This list is capable of winning the flag this year. Anything less than that is a missed opportunity.
Or a grand final at the very least - another preliminary final debacle, and Ken should pack his bags immediately.

I'd prefer Jones to just become a solid reliable defender who makes correct decisions 90+% of the time.

I like don't give a * about come from behind wins against 12th sided teams.

Give me a character win where we beat first on the ladder and announce ourselves to the world as premiership threat.

We have zero in the 11 years Hinkley has been here.

Thats not entirely true. Weve had those wins, we just forget them because its followed by later disappointment

Elliotts wasnt against the rules. You are allowed to do what he did. Players do that every game, every week

Were not even making a grand final stop fooling yourself still got a lot of tough games and half our senior players are at breaking point.

The pre finals bye will help I guess

Season over get rid of boak, wines ,lycett and Jonas and other sanfl average guys like mead and teakle at the end of the season

And most importantly SACK HINKLEY

Jesus Christ. We just won 13 games in a row including very tight ones we'd normally lose. Drop one close one to the best in the comp and the sky is falling.

Todd Marshall just openly throwing the ball to Evans for a goal probably pretty high on that list lol

Had we won, Collingwood fans would be whinging about the Marshall throw in the goalsquare costing them the game.

I thought it was well umpired. They let it go, which was a welcome change

I think there's some chance we fall to 4th. Melbourne will start favourite in all 6 of their remaining games. Even if they drop 1 that would still leave us needing to win 3 of our 5 to finish ahead of them, which will be difficult.

This is actually my preferred outcome to be honest, I think it gives us the best shot at making a GF. Finish 4th, free hit at Collingwood in a QF, semi at home, play Melbourne or Brisbane in an away PF. The biggest danger here is a home semi against the Bulldogs or some team like that who would relish the idea of a slippery Adelaide Oval final against a Hinkley team.

This. Missing set shot goals at goal is as much a mental weakness as it can be technique. We should have been 5 to 6 goals up at 3 qtr time and essentially game over. We have some mentally weak players for sure.

Special mention to Daicos doing the old West Coast duck and arm raise to draw the free from a dopey ass umpire in the last.

He didnt duck. It was a shit tackle
